I think to be honest most ways of implementing it would be very restrictive. If I want to play a flirty, manipulative, stone-cold-ruthless inquisitor, neither feminine nor masculine would be an exact fit. In the same way, a butch, aggressive inquisitor might still have a love for nice things, or a soft spot for children and animals. People are just too complex to fit exactly into moulds, and its hard for an RPG to maintain that level of choice. Which is a shame, really.

Indeed. I think it would be ideal if animations are truly neutral (not distinct man animations pasted over woman bodies) and then you can pick detailed dialogue options, reactions, etc...I also don't want the game forcing a distinct tone for me for neutral dialogue. Everything FemShep said to Jacob made her sound like a dog in heat.

I actually made a point of not talking to him because my FemShep used to put on the "come get me" voice, and the way she used to position herself all provocatively. I'm not keen on people forcing my characters to throw herself at people- especially since my FemShep was supposed to be after Garrus.

Same here. It was too cringeworthy to bear :D

What is "acting like a lady" ?

Which also begs the question: what is "acting like a man" ?

Femshep and the skirt is an unfortunate consequence of an animation made without (and in fact, before) that particular outfit in mind, otherwise, there's nothing really wrong with it.

You could make a point that animations were ported from Maleshep to Femshep and thus the intent is male-orientated, but if they should go out of their way to create "female-specific animations", then on what basis should those be made ?

The way females actually move, I would guess. Then femshep wouldn't have had to run like she had a stump shoved up her ass.

I'm all for proper and attractive animations for female characters. Especially for the female Inquisitor. Good point, OP.

It's a fair point and illustrates the limbo where Bioware characters exist. But the alternative is non expressive characters which don't work so well in voice acted game.

There are many instances in DA2 where you just roll your eyes for various reasons, but it's still preferable to a very flat character, unless they were to drop the voice and go back to DA:O where many of these issues did not exist.

So I watched the timeline indicated on the video, and what I saw was like an overcoat that's split down the back for freedom of movement.  The only way to fix that would be to force mages, since the scene in question is of Viv casting a spell, to be forced into robes, and, to be forced to stand straight up with no animations other than hand waving.  This, because even in a robe, if you bend forward any at all, it's going to highlight that you actually have an ass.  I guess that's the total objection, right?  That she actually has a butt, and that sometimes, that butt is going to show up?

BTW, that freedom of movement I mentioned earlier?  If it's not split down the back, then the buttons are going to pop, and her boobs are going to fly out, because there has to be some give somewhere.  This is why, even in RL, overcoats with tails are designed like they are, as opposed to being a single tail that hides the fact that you have a butt.

Basically if you dare to mention that you might not be too fond of square-jawed walking barrels of muscles that's supposed to be men in the game, you'll get a number of people shouting "YOU WANNA LOOK LIKE SISSY WHAT ARE YOU GAY" and "LOLOLOL GO PLAY ANIMU GAMES". So in that sense drawing male characters is easier -- you just go with the stereotype and the target audience terrified someone could question their own masculinity if they agreed with complaints will take care of any dissent.

Not sure where that comes from, no one I know thinks like that.

It comes from outside the little circle of people you personally know, I guess.

Wanting female characters to have separate animations from male characters does not have to result in having female characters walking like supermodels.

I'm a woman and I don't walk like a man. Neither do I walk like a model. I just walk... normally. Like someone trying to get from A to B. It doesn't look the same as a man's walk, but it doesn't look vastly different either.
That's a perfectly valid interpretation of 'walking like a woman'.

Personally, I'd like a good middle ground between the two extremes (manly man Vs girly girl).

I've seen men who don't walk like men or women. Just normal walking. And i'd like a normal walking too, not 'manly' nor 'womanly' either.

I liked Saints Row 3/4 for their walking options. My thing with RPGs with original characters is always, always, always the more options the better. If I want a hulking, male Adaar who drops his hips to the floor when he walks, there shouldn't be a problem making it work with the model. If I want a female, Elf who walks like Vince McMahon, then what's the problem?

Surely the engine supports more than one set of walking animations and any frame should conceivably be able to work with it.

I imagine its going to be even worse than ME because the DA:I devs need to account for four species, not just Male/Female

I've just spent the better part of half an hour watching Lara Crofts animations. Would the people who are complaining actually point to a game that they think got it right? Throwing terms about, does not really mean much when everyone has their own ideas of what those terms mean.

All this talk about broad shouldered bulky man shep making me thirsty enough to play ME again.

Anyway, would you consider Avelines posture to be preferable?

New Lara Croft had the best animation IMO. And skyrim did good with the female animations.... also Remember Me.

I'd say the alternative is appropriate expressiveness for the situation. If I'm asking someone about their service record I don't want my character saying it in a seductive way, that makes no sense. "How are you holding up after finding your dad?" should be sympathetic rather than lusty. This should be a no brainer

All this "spread legs" talk is such lies.

I could be doing the goddamn splits, and hot guys never feel "misled" enough to even so much as wave at me.
