Can someone explain to me how night and day cycles work in DAI. Someone told me it is not time based.
Will there be a way to switch between night and day at the castle like you could on the map in DAII?

I'd like to know this too
Open world needs some sort of timed day/night cycle. With the ability to rest to alter the clock. Unless there is some sort of problem of balancing the game where only certain things can be daytime because of lighting or something, then that should be the approach.
There is no day/night cycle in DAI. Zones are locked in a certain time of day to set the mood of the zones.

source?

While I would take the reason with a pinch of salt, it would not suprise me.
Anyone?
I would actually like to know this too.
I would think it would have something similar to what DA2 did, but Open Worldness suggests a clocked system similar to Assassin's Creed or Fallout.
Oooohhh. What about weather system? Do we get a weather system?

I seem to recall hearing this, too. Though, as of now, I can't place the source. It was within the past 2-3 months, if memory serves.
The main reason I remember it sticking out is that I then wondered if they were implementing a DA:2 style of travel where you chose whether to visit places during the day or during the night.
(It won't embed with a time-stamp, 45:20) No day/night cycle, but the weather system is in place.
I'm on the fence about day/night cycle tbh. On one hand it definitely adds to the game, making it feel more alive and dynamic. On the other hand the time-scale always feels off, and if you set it 1:1, well, what is the point anyway. So maybe the game will be fine without it.

*makes pleased noises*
I want to fight a high dragon in a blizzard please.
EDIT: Hold the phone, what's that playing behind them at that time-stamp? I don't remember that trailer for DA2

Yeah I don't know what to think about the lack of cycle either.
Thanks for the video! ![]()
I know they want the Day/Night static for the moment, something about how certain set pieces look during the night or day. I'd say that's fine, but once the narrative purpose of that is fullfilled (IE: Capture Keep), the day/night could become unlocked. Either a continuous Day/Night (Like Open world games) or even a force day/night like DA2 would be fine in any case. I just really don't like the idea of a certain zone being permanently trapped in night, or daylight. It feels very inorganic.
Like the desert being locked to always being under the Sun, when it would be so awesome to wander in it at night? Yeah... Hopefully, a day/night unlocker mod comes out for the PC.

DA:I isnt a true open world so it shouldnt be restricted to the same standards as one such as Skyrim

There isn't much to unlock if Bioware didn't create a cycle. And the Frostbite engine isn't exactly mod friendly either.
Like others have said, so far they've mentioned that areas will have a locked time of day (like in DAO), to set the mood appropriately. The Blackmarsh wouldn't be as atmospheric if you went there during the day, for example. Since the game is not truly open world (just super big), it makes sense.

Maybe modders can find a way to mess with the light source or something. Yeah, too bad it isn't, makes the chance of it coming true even slimmer.
The game isn't truly open-world so it doesn't look like there will be a dynamic weather system.
I find dynamic weather iffy because it's a strain on the system. If it's anything like TLOU then it will need to be programmed to the 'nth degree. That is of course operating under the assumption that the last gen versions are feature complete.

They've said there will be a dynamic weather system
I haven't encountered a continuos day/night cycle yet that I felt really added much to a game.
Play Dragons Dogma and you'll change your mind. You'll also stock up of lantern fuel too after you run for your life the first time lol

To what extent, though? Like Skyrim?
I would love that to be the case, but I won't be holding my breath.

They said there's rain, blizzards, sand storms, etc. It was said during the panel thats towards the top of this page
