For example:

All companions of DA:O (except Alistair)

Isabela and Fenris in DA2

Would you like to?

Do you believe it possible in DAI?.

If you're from BioWare please answer!!

It is not possible. Companions represent a mammoth amount of work and resources. They will not have every possible prior companion as a possible companion in DA:I. Possibly as a cameo if applicable, but not as a full-fledged companion.

The most that will ever happen is they are a temporary companion for a mission involving them.

I think what the OP means is having companions that are optional, as all Origins companions (barring Alistair and initially Morrigan) as well as Isabela and Fenris were in their respective game. Not having all previous companions return if the player wants.

I think what OP means is make companions themselves optional.

i.e. you could bypass Sten in DAO fairly easily.

It seems rather unlikely to me,at most some of them might fight alongside us during a quest or something.

AH. That makes more sense.

I'd imagine you'd be locked in to have Cassandra and Varric, maybe Vivienne, but I am also sure they won't force every single possible companion in your party to stay forever if you do not want to.

Id almost rather they force them. For one, they might be important to the overall story. Isabela really shouldn't have been optional given she basically causes act 2. Two, I have missed Leliana simply because I didn't go into the tavern... at the very least they should be introduced in a better way then just in some tavern with no quest or anything telling you to go in there. Three, gameplay wise you need a few companions to do like anything, so.

Every game has to be different!

Is not that what they want BioWare games?

Don't worry, you will almost certainly be allowed to, at the very least, kill a few of the companions at some point after recruitment. More likely you will even be able to decide not to recruit certain party members (a la Sten and Leliana). I doubt that you will be able to easily 'miss' companions though, as that is a design flaw. Leliana was a little hidden in the tavern and we really should have had a quest directing us to enter, where we would then be given the choice of recruit or decline.

There probably will be optional companions, i specifically put my money on the gay/lesbian/bisexual romance companions getting made optional just like how Origins did it so players that get uncomfortable can simply dismiss or kill them straight away. Ill be surprised if theres a mandatory gay character in Inquisition after all the hate Anders got in DA2.

Most of that hate wasn't cause he was Gay, it was because he was either straight if you were a girl or bi if you were a dude (to all appearances anyway). Plus people hate him because he's a total idiot who murdered probably hundreds of innocents in an action that resulted in the deaths (or possessions) of dozens of mages.

Yeah, people hate Anders for what he did in the games, not what he is in the games.

Im not sure i agree, were alot of people who got super offended just cos Anders dared to hit on their male Hawkes. I won't be surprised if that's a reason why the non straight companions will be made totally optional like it was in Origins to avoid backlash like that again.

I'd like all the companions to be optional.  KotOR was the first BioWare game where any companions were mandatory, and that was the wrong way to go.  I'd like them to undo that mistake.

I'm all for some of the companions being optional, but only if they don't just disappear from the game.. If we don't recruit them, they should appear somewhere else like a different faction or something.  Although I doubt any of them will be optional.

EDIT: if any of them are, it kinda feels like only a few of them will be optional depending on choices you make regarding certain factions... for example if you ally or go against the Grey Wardens, the Bearded Warden may or may not join up with you.

He was still pretty Gay..and i'm not talking about his sexual preferences.

Its not that the non-straight companions were optional in Origins, it is that EVERY companion is optional. (Bar Morrigan and Alistair)

Mabari - Don't heal him.

Leliana - avoid the tavern.

Sten - Don't talk to him.

Wynne - Kill her in the tower when you first meet.

Zev - Slit his throat while he is unconscious.

Shale - DLC so obviously optional.

Oghren - Might be the only non-optional companion, I never tried that hard to ditch him, but he always forces into your party in the Anvil map.

Even Morrigan is optional.  You can just tell her to leave once you arrive in Lothering.  She'll come back for the Dark Ritual, but she isn't required as a party member.  And, anyone who wants to get rid of Alistair can always swap him with Loghain (though they have to wait until close to the end of the game).

As for Oghren, I don't remember if there's a dialogue option to tell him to leave, but he WILL leave if his approval drops low enough.

Doesn't Morrigan only leave if you refuse to kill her mother? i don't remember there being a choice to send her away like the others.

No, the Warden is free to tell her to leave at any time as soon as they arrive in Lothering.

With Oghren had a similar choice when Morrigan

Ok, so he's only required for the Anvil of the Void and then the Warden can tell him to go away once they leave Orzammar.
