IF you do horrible on the suicide mission and everyone dies, are you going to be able to replay the same save?

You'll probably want to reload a save prior to entering the Omega-4 relay, and then go ahead and prepare your crew.

At least, that's what a reasonable mind would do.

If you fail, no one will ever love you. Not even your mother.

But you may make up for it by playing a previous save that was made BEFORE you go on the suicide mission and preppin' a bit more.

So you have to survive to carry on to ME3, if you die in ME2. Just wondering if there will be a new character you start ME3 with, by importing a "Shep Died Save"?

Sorry. I'm thinking way in advance here.

If you desperately want a character to live, you should probably put them in your squad for the suicide mission. Other than than, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade. This is Bioware's way of letting you know that they will pwn you for rushing through their games. It pays to be a completionist. Also, some of your squad members will probably die on the suicide mission -- it'll be hard to keep them all alive. Once again, the only probably guarantees are for those in your direct squad.

Shepard's death appears to be a possible ending to the game. While it may be possible to reload a save, it is doubtful you'd be able to start a new game plus on that career without acheiving a survival ending.

Blank1:  The suicide mission can result in a story death for SHEPARD.  Why would the squad be protected?

Really? Why wouldn't you save? Is there something preventing you from going click-click a few times with your mouse (or whatever you do with an XBox controller)?

From what I've heard...

Shepard dying in the end is a very un-epic, un-awesome kind of death. Why? Because the reason you die isn't because you are paragon or renegade or because a certain character loathes your bones, but because you never bothered to develop a character. You die because your squad is a rag-tag bunch of strangers you've exchanged nary a word with.

*snip*

Because I didn't feel like re-writing it.
I hope this indirectly answers your question. Posted Image

EDIT: in other words, you won't die unless you just blaze through the game leaving all else on the wayside.

Throughout, actually.  Instead of overwriting saves, make a new save under that career.

tap-tap:)

I usually make a starting save on my memory card, and put everything else to HDD.

Seriously...you should make saves when you go to a new planet (and you DON'T copy over the old one :P ) or after you do something major - at least that would seem to be the most sensible course of action, unless you have like absolutely no room for saves (don't see why you wouldn't unless this is an xbox).

Before you start the suicide mission, you're probably allowed to say when you're ready.

um no when you die you DIE, you dont play as some other character, casey hudson confirmed if you die in mass effect 2 you wont be able to bring your save files in mass effect 3 cause you DEAD, only shepard is main character in all series, no special replacement, it kindof ruins it. Shepard was destined to save the galaxy, unless he fails

I'm hoping Bioware will have options for continuing a career involving a dead Shepard. The trick is incorporating a character that isn't entirely new (a random red-shirt being promoted to savior of the universe would feel contrived). So the question then becomes, what character has history in the universe but can be taken over by the character without seriously damaging the place of that character in the story? Also, would living Shepard's be able to import all of their decisions but then take the reins of the new character? What about people who don't import saves? Clearly they can't force you not to play as a living Shepard, as that would cause significant backlash. It's also possible that Bioware can convince us someone who appears as a new character to the player is not a new character or an unlikely one in the universe.

Liara is a significant possibility.

Oh. Damn. I was hoping they'd still let us see what happens to the world, even without Shepard. That's unfortunate. Oh well.

You'll still get an ending.  Just one with a dead Shepard, and a career which you cannot import to ME3.

I've heard rumors that every time a person fails in ME2 a sackful of kittens is tossed onto a freeway . . . . just think about that.
