Failure is not an option. (On the first playthrough anyway... second playthrough, BLOODBATH! MWAHAHAHAHHA!)

I have a file I'm gonna finish, and import, specifically so that the character dies in the suicide mission for being an ****.

Nope. ME2 Shep's death= No ME3 one. You can play as another Shpeard though... just not your ME2 one

um no when you die you DIE, you dont play as some other character, casey hudson confirmed if you die in mass effect 2 you wont be able to bring your save files in mass effect 3 cause you DEAD, only shepard is main character in all series, no special replacement, it kindof ruins it. Shepard was destined to save the galaxy, unless he fails

Oh. Damn. I was hoping they'd still let us see what happens to the world, even without Shepard. That's unfortunate. Oh well.

You'll still get an ending.  Just one with a dead Shepard, and a career which you cannot import to ME3.

True. It makes more sense from a development standpoint, but I enjoy entertaining the possibilities that are opened up if they hadn't made this decision. It would really bring home their plans for a game that you create, and a universe you alter, across the entire trilogy. But they are telling the story, and in their story it's Shepard or bust.

Heehee ... yeah, I've got the original face and am using it as my Uber Renegade. He may well die. Either him or my Daniel Craig-ish Shepard. But while he's certainly a Renegade, Bond never dies ... hmm ...

It's Shepard's story.  One assumes that in his/her death is the success or failure in his/her appointed task, and thus the conclusion, aside from the inevitable epilogue, of the game.

I understand. But now I'm so in love with the universe that I'm greedy and want more. :)

I know Bioware plans on expanding beyond the Mass Effect Trilogy, but I'm eager to see a universe that goes on after Shepard's death rather than just another corner of this universe in a separate series of games. I want to see Shepard's actions set something in motion that is picked up by the other characters of this universe. I want to see the crew from Mass Effect 1 carry on in Shepard's name. I want Shepard to be as much in death as in life.

It seems pretty clear this won't happen now. But you have no need to dissuade me of this desire.

Well, ME3 will still be Shepard, one assumes. To use the same version of the character, you'd need a survival save.

I expect, the other main possibility(Two possible MC's, two genders worth of VO each) seems unlikely.

My understanding is this...

If you fail and Die,you do not get to carry *Your Sheppard* to ME3.You get the default Shep.

Kinda like making a new ME2 Shep.

If you die in ME2, you probably have to play as Conrad Verner. Shep is dead so why would you play as the default shep?

Think he means that without a character to import, you get default decisions.

It takes apparently a very thorough exploration of the galaxy to build up the team, arsenal and ship, that all come back alive from whatever lies beyond the omega-4 relay. I think even those who think they have everything covvered the first time, will end up loosing one or two members of squad.

If you fail... you die IRL.

Seriously. If Bioware detects you failed on the mission, via the Cerberus Network, they send armed hitmen to your house to murder you, your family, your friends, AND finally they rape your dog.

I got five dogs.
I'm not sure if they would go through all that effort.

But uhm.. Can't you still start a NG+ when you died? Thus beginning a new game where you can survive with the same character?

I doubt it - if a character doesn't survive to the end, why would they?

I want to see what happens if you fail, but will I loose my character because he died? As in will my save be deleted without my permission by the game because I failed in the suicide mission?

Can you NG+ when you fail the mission?
