I think the tie in with DA2 is that Cassandra was looking for Hawke precisely because she wanted them to act as an arbiter at the peace talks but then discovers they have disappeared so it goes ahead without them.   As for the Warden, she may not have been looking for them explicitly but Lelianna, being an old friend (possibly even lover) would have kept in touch and so would be aware that they have also gone missing.   Hence her cryptic remark at the end of DA2 about her feeling it is no coincidence that they have both disappeared without any of the closest friends knowing what has happened to them.

Having the pair of them at the talks so soon after being told they had gone missing would be rather odd.   Also not every Warden or Hawke would give a monkeys about the mage/Templar conflict and whilst Cassandra might try and force the issue, what good would an unwilling participant be?    I'm hoping that something very different lies in store for our old heroes, linked to the plot but taking much more of the game to find out in what way.

I quite like the clean slate idea, though as others have said, it seems... unworthy of both the Warden and Hawke to just die in an explosion. They've faced some of the most powerful things in existence, and countless other creatures. All of that, just to get blasted in a cutscene?

Anyway, I'd like to stick with my own head canon surrounding the disappearance of the past games' protagonist. Both my Warden and Hawke are in a remote Antivan brothel, working off their debts after Zevran lied about paying for the drinks. >.> God damn it, Zevran!

  • You see the Champion's armour, and can see their gender but not his/her face.
  • You hear people talking about the Warden, and how excited everyone is to hear them speak later(!)

Those aren't Warden and Hawke, those are:

They could do it, but I rather doubt it. Heres why:

1) It adds no story value. It's just killing characters to make it easier on the developers.

2) It's already been stated by Cassandra that the Hero & Champion have vanished mysteriously. Having them pop up innocuously at the peace summit wouldn't really fit that mystery vanishing.

3) It would ****** off a lot of people. They want a real end to the Warden and Champion, not a half-baked ''They arrived at the summit to much fanfare! Then promptly died."

I wouldn't be surprised if through DAI either the Warden of Hawke actually does die, but I would expect it to have more narrative value than 'Oops everyone's dead'.

This is a good theory, and one that is plausible, but I really hope this isn't how it turns out because it would give me the immediate sads at the very start of the damn game.

What I'd like is to follow a quest-line to a dungeon or keep only to find all the enemies completely demolished, all the chests looted, etc, before we run into [insert DAO/DA2 character here!] who tells us how we just missed all the fun & that the Warden/Champion went on ahead a little bit ago.

To be fair, Leliana and the Seekers were actively searching for Hawke and the Warden during DA2.  It's possible that they found them and brought them to the Peace Talks.  Killing them off would make a lot of sense, but it would be devastating for fans and their "headcanon."

It seems totally unnecessary to me. Why would they written to disappear at all if it was going to be resolved by killing them off at the beginning of the game?

It would be a cheap way to finish their stories I think.

Besides, there is a reason they are MIA, and their disappearance is very important. Two protagonists don't just disappear as if they went into hiding. It is implied that there is a bigger reason than that.

Now that they both show up, they die without even an explanation to why they were gone in the first place?

I think Hawke will prob be with either the mages or Templar based on who you sided with, I also think the warden will show up with the other wardens if not through a side quest. Same could be said for Hawke. However the peace talks will prob consist of the Templar, Mages and The chantry Leaders. The seekers have always been given a great amount of power but if the leaders of those factions die then if gives the seekers complete control so that they may fix crap seeing as how they come in when something horrible happens and the Templar and chantry lose control of a situation. I do not see Hawke or the Warden being there. Now I do have a feeling you will be either A a normal soldier/guard/knight of some sort of civilian based on you being at the peace talks then the event happens and everyone gets sucked into the void something will happen in the void that you will see giving you the power on your hand. However something or for whatever reason you get tossed back out from the void thus you falling down then it shows you standing back up in a sandy area and Cassandra approaches you and her little speech happens such in the video. Then you are lead back to the seekers fort and they put you in charge but not off that bat prob have to prove yourself first or something who knows at that point.

Why at the end of DA2 Bioware told to the player via Cassandra and Leillana that the Warden and Hawke have misteriously diseapeared and in the beginning of the next game in the intro, both appear in the pax conference?

If Bioware does that, the scenarist is an idiot!

I though we have to investigatet the diseappearance during the game or find some indice for a future game. But killed the both previous heroes out of sight si completly stupid and would shame the rest of the licence and this game.

Why let the opportunity to save your Warden in DAO if Bioware kills your character without you can save him or doing anything: frustraction! Only word I have in mind if it is the case! Bioware then is a company adept of Jean-Paul Sartre ( existenlist and non sense in the live)

I just hope that Rhys and Evengline aren't there. I want to meet them but they most likely are which makes me sad.

Naw, HELL NO! That be a cheap ass way to kill off to important and dear characters to the story and community. Their missing and we got to find out why and where. Not some cheap lose end tie up.

I actually never understood why they were looking for the Warden. I understood Hawke s/he could help the mage/templar war. But what could the warden do?

Hmm, I have to disagree about it cheapening the story of the Warden or Hawke. Until we see/saw how it was done I think it would be impossible to say what effect it would have.

For example, it's going to be a lot easier to show the Warden off through the reactions of her/his companions. We have Hawke's voice, but it's already been fairly clearly stated that bringing custom faces into the game isn't going to work.

Also, and I say this as a massive fan, the writers will want to take into account the feelings of the people playing the game who never played DA:O or DA2. For them, a side or potential main quest involving Hawke or the Warden is going to be of minimal interest.

The fact that Leliana and Cassandra think the two disappearances are connected doesn't mean much beyond their own assumptions. Even if they are both in hiding, there's no reason to think that both wouldn't come out to help resolve a massive civil war. Especially if they're aware of some other (larger) threat.
