It's been over 2 years since my last playthrough. I remember some of the weapon and ammo upgrades stop dropping at higher levels and the better ones like Tungsten, Shredder and Kinetic Coils max out with level VII versions. Then they are only dropped between certain levels.

I thought the WIKI shed some info on when these windows of opportunity arose and depleted. Alas, I cannot find any definites on the drop schedule. I'm undergoing Pinnacle Station early and I'm afraid I might miss out as you level several times in that.

Anyone have any insight to the drop limitations?

If I remember correctly, lvl 7 Ammo stops dropping around level ~45, maybe even 40 (at least i'm pretty sure it was before you reach level 50...)

But there should be a 'window'- of around 3 levels or so- where it does drop with increased probability, before that.

37-42. A few may drop occasionally a level or two below and above.

The wiki mentions it... somewhere.

I think the interesting bit is that many of the Level VIII versions of nominally the same thing have worse stats in some way.  For example, Incendiary Rounds VII does more damage than Inferno VIII.  Ablative VII has better damage protection than Energized Plating VIII.

That's not counting the things that change pretty substantially.  Medical Interfaces switch pretty dramatically to Medical Exoskeletons since they get cooldown reduction.  Kinetic Buffer is the opposite as it goes to Kinetic Exoskeleton as you trade cooldown reduction for mobile accuracy.

Brilliant! TY o/

I knew I had seen it listed. What slaves me is how hard it is to narrow down some of the specifics on that wiki. For me at least, anyway. You'd think that would be easily linked from the upgrade pages. Sadly, that's not the case... unless I'm just blind, which is prob not far off.

Exactly. I can't follow the logic behind that. Some upgrades get worse and some are completely left out alltogether.

IIRC, Inferno gets better eventually, but yeah. Rail Extension VII is also the most damaging mod, though it has its disadvantages and I only use it under certain circumstances.

I don't mind that some mods/ammo don't get better after VII, but at least they could have made them droppable, or just make higher versions with no improvements.

My main gripe with ME1's inventory, though, is that, in the long run, 99% of the stuff you find is useless.

That is one I'm looking out for. I double them up with Explosive rounds for the Sniper Rifle. I take the Sniper Rifle as the extra talent for every character that doesn't have it. I can't stand the Mako and I need that thing to take out all of the enemies, with the exception of Thresher Maws. For them, I use either an Assault Rifle or Pistol with Shredders.
