Hi guys!
A forum member expressed concern about knowing more about new characters, and suggested that someone started a non spoiler thread where people can find links about videos/interviews that don't spoil the story/characters. I decided to start one myself.
I think there are two ways to do this. Either I post only links of videos/interviews that don spoil anything about the story or characters (for example, I can post interview a both gameplay features, classes, the Keep-conquering system, CC, etc) or I can post links to every video and interviews, but putting a disclaimer in the case there is spoiler content in the link (for example, if a video is about characters I'd write :Warning: spoiler about characters in the link). Tell me what do you guys prefer I'd do.
This thread shouldn't be used to discussing spoiler links either way, so. I think it should be restricted to links.

Thank you for making this thread! I will follow E3 myself but I know that I'll be angry at myself afterwards for spoiling at lot, since it seems that at least some companions will be revealed. And I kinda don't want to know that. Still, I'll watch it but I won't dissect the information given there so hopefully I'll be okay.

As for how you should handle the thread: I think posting links to all media available while listing the potential spoiler content is best. What is and what isn't an acceptable spoiler differs from person to person after all. That way everybody can choose the content they are comfortable with - people who are okay with only gameplay stuff could watch only this, people okay with location reveals but not companions could watch that and so on.

You're welcome :).
The problem with watching the conference live is that you might find spoiler directly shown to you and not hidden. We don't know when they'll show the characters, and if there'll be story spoiler in the trailer/demo at the EA conference.
I agree that the second approach might be the best.

Yeah I know but at this point I really can't NOT watch (THE EXCITEMENT!!!) so I can only hope for the best (and maybe close my eyes really tight when spoilers are on screen, lol). But even though I'm that weak willed I can still appreciate your effort for other people stronger than me  I don't think that there will be obvious story spoilers in the presentation though, I trust Bioware will handle that well. If the first presentation has a lot of spoilers I might skip the later demos though.

I think much worse than the spoilers in the presentation will be the threads cropping up here in the forums with people noticing every minuscule detail that I would simply miss myself, so I'll stay off of the forums - minus this thread. :)

Just wondering, but isn't this better discussed in the myriad of other threads already pre-existing?

There are two E3 threads already:

One by Chewin specifically to cover anything Dragon Age related at E3, http://forum.bioware...-at-e3-you-say/

The other by myself in the Off Topic Section to cover all things E3, http://forum.bioware...t-expo-2014-e3/

Basically, same thing as last year, a general E3 Thread and a DA specific E3 Thread

Isn't the whole point of following coverage of the game to learn more? Literally any information learned is a spoiler.

Your concern was answered in the OP. Folks want to know about gameplay but keep story/characters a surprise.

There are two E3 threads already:

One by Chewin specifically to cover anything Dragon Age related at E3, http://forum.bioware...-at-e3-you-say/

The other by myself in the Off Topic Section to cover all things E3 related more broadly including DA, http://forum.bioware...t-expo-2014-e3/

Basically, same thing as last year, a general E3 Thread and a DA specific E3 Thread

Isn't the whole point of following coverage of the game to learn more? Literally any information learned is a spoiler.

But with this thread, people can have a safe zone where to check links and be sure to not read some spoiler. Plus, some people might want to know about characters and not the story, or the opposite. The video at the EA conference might be only about characters, so if someone doesn't want to be spoiled about the story can find the link here and avoid threads where they can read spoiler discussions. Even if all the info are about spoilers, they can check this thread safely, knowing they won't find spoilers. And if interviews contain spoilers I can copy and past the info about gameplay features so that people won't stumble upon them.
I opened this thread because I person concerned about this suggested someone opened one. And another person expressed concern about it.

Thank you!

Not everyone who follows a games coverage wants to know core plot details like how and where the game starts, where the companions come from and stuff like that. Some of us just want to k ow non plot stuff like aspects on customization, leveling up, character creation, the keep and stuff to that nature.

So having a thread like this which explains which videos contain plot information will be very helpful for people like me.

I want to clarify, if it wasn't clear, that this isn't a discussion thread about E3. There's Indeed a thread in scuttlebutt for that. This thread's goal is just to gather links in a way that people know if there are spoiler in them, without risking finding spoilers in the thread.

Yeah, like how I actively avoid all current topics about the peace talks at the beginning of the game. I don't want to be spoiled even for something in the first fifteen minutes: I went into ME2 not knowing what happens in the intro, and it blew my mind. I was hooked from the start.

^ Among other things - they have one, possibly two gameplay demos to show off.

I think it's reasonable to have a discussion thread where the people in it choose to avoid discussing spoilers.

That might not be possible, if everything Bioware shows at E3 is full of spoilers, but it's worth a shot.

Great idea for those that want it (I personally don't have that kind of willpower). But while neat in theory, I feel like most links able to be provided will most likely contain spoilers of both variety (gameplay and plot/characters). So it might be a good idea instead of (or as well as) linking videos, perhaps have two separate spoiler tags in the OP for lists of gameplay mechanics we learn at E3 and character/plot/location reveals (Julie Fancyfeet joins your party during the Inquisiton's assault on Highever's orphanage). That way people can find out the information they are curious about from relevant videos without being spoiled by everything else that comes with it.

That doesn't mean that everything they'll show will be about characters though.
Even in the case everything will be about spoiler (story, characters, organizations), they can still check the thread safely without spoiler risk.

I meant to put spoiler tags about gameplay features. I think I can do the same for characters. Though I'll clarif before any videos the type of spoiler contained inside.

I think for people like me and others avoiding spoilers it's great to have someone who kind of reviews the content and says "yeah you can watch that" or "no, you really shouldn't watch that if you don't want to know about xyz", because otherwise your only option is to avoid everything, even though some things would have been safe for watching.

Even if Bioware's presentation focuses solely on the companions (which I really, really doubt - companions are something hardcore fans are excited about but E3 needs to push the marketing to the casual audience first and foremost) there could be different level of spoilers. For example, I REALLY don't want to know who the LIs are, but I don't mind to learn the names of the companions, so if Bioware's presentation only mentions the names and shows the design of the companions, it would be safe to watch for me. So if The Elder King reviews the material and goes "yep, names and design confirmed, no other spoilers" I could watch it - others, who don't want to know anything, can stay away. Or maybe post a video with a spoiler warning like "spoilers about companions at 1:23 to 2:34" so that people could watch the video until 1:22 and stop, if that isn't too much work. Things like that.

The other E3 threads aren't spoiler free, so if you had this stuff in there chances are that you'd still stumble over spoilers. This thread should stay clear, or rather it's enough to just read the first post, so the risk is minimized.

Thank you for doing this, this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for! I'm trying to stay spoiler-free for DA:I's story and characters, but I'd love to know more about stuff like the locations visited and gameplay systems, so this is really ideal for me. :D

As for how posting the links should be handled, I definitely agree with Silith that posting all links and listing the spoiler content would be the best way to do it. That way people can pick and choose.

Thanks a bunch for setting out to do something like this and help out those of us trying to avoid spoilers (but still desperate for our chosen DA:I fix, haha), I appreciate that you're making the time and effort to do this for our sake! :)

I think this thread is an awesome idea!! I've been fretting about the spoilers I'll inevitably trip over (found another one just this morning, darnit) with the influx of new info after E3. So if you don't mind being spoiled so we don't have to, that'd be amazing and very much appreciated.

I also agree with Silith's idea of putting time warnings on the videos ("Companions mentioned 1:25-2:20", "Plot-point mentioned 6:17-6:50") since, unless you edit the videos, they'll pretty much all contain some sort of spoiler. And you don't want to trash an entire half-hour video just because it mentions the name of a companion halfway through. Time warnings seem the most practical solution.

So yeah. Definitely bookmarking this thread!

Hi, Elder King.

I'm "a forum member" as expressed in the OP. Mike Laidlaw himself posted a companion picture into my twitter feed today. ( <3 Mike, nonetheless.)

But, thanks very much for making this thread. I'll come here with hands over my eyes and just look for this one. :P

I totally trust you!

Question is, why is Bioware so bad with showing off spoilers in their games? I know they say that anything released by them are not spoilers, but leave it to Bioware, following their coverage 100% equals that you will know many of the surprises before you play the game.

My personal feeling on companions is that I don't want to know.

Are they spoilers? I dunno. It's a grey area, IMO.

I just do not want to know how, where, and when I meet the characters. Knowing their names, race, and class is fine with me.
