Garrus is only about as confirmed as Thane is (i.e., not officially). Plus, maybe they realized that Thane is ugly.Mox Ruuga wrote...
I wonder why the Thane fans are so silent... They used to be more vocal than the Garrus fans in the old forum. Perhaps most of them leaped right back to fangirling Garrus when he was confirmed.
Argh, 6 love interests and only two of them are in any way appealing to me. And I might hook up one of my Renegades with SuZe.

It takes away time from something not as useless to be added. If it wasn't important enough to be in the game. There's enough romances in the game....Weapons, armor, and missions are more important.
New weapons and armor are useless in a single player game; a same sex romance DLC would actually add more to the experience. Plus, it could come with new weapons and armor.
Then we, those who don't want this kind of stuff, wouldn't get these weapons. I guess you guys could get a big fat **** that shoots out **** on other guys, and for you gals a big, stretched ***** that shoots ****** discharge all over other women for weapons. That sounds nice.
I'm joking. Seriously though, I wanna see the responses to this

Political correctness has already ruined enough things. I'm sick of every movie, game, and television show feeling like they have to include a positive black, hispanic, asian, female, etc. figure in the cast.
Do you really think that having diversity in the cast has ruined movies and TV shows? Seriously?

Still I ask, why does Mass Effect have to cater to peoples varied sexual preferences? Seriously I feel sorry for Bioware who gave an inch now people want the whole mile. If there are those who feel strongly that there should be a Sci-Fi video game with homosexuality in it then please go and create such a game. This whole thing of sexual relationships in Mass Effect has gotten blown way out of proportion. Perhaps Shepard and crew have more important issues at stake than making out in the supply closet. Why do we assume there is homosexuality in other races of beings? Seriously, let it go. The story and characters of Mass Effect are as they are, if you don't like it then play some other game.
Why don't you let it go?
We don't want a mile, just a f/f or m/m romance. If you can have 6 m/f ones why can't we have ours? More important issues? LOL. Like how many women ya can bang on a ship? I repeat 6 m/f romances...
You know what? How about they just take out ALL the m/f romances and have nothing at all. I mean the mission is more important after all...

Seriously though, people can just use this from an RPG standpoint if you guys are into that... feeling isolated and alone and so on. This is probably what I am gonna do and its something that gays can probably relate to at some point in their lives.
PS: No M/M > Something like M/Zev in DA?

Nevertheless, I still can't understand why people seem to think that a relationship between humans of the same gender could somehow be worse than a relationship between a human and an extraterrestrial life form. There are already people here who have the nerves to ask "What's next? Animals?" Guess what. I wouldn't go as far as calling the aliens animals, but humans they are not, that's for damn sure. Most reasons you bring up against gay or lesbian romances, would apply there as well, I think. But feel free to explain the differences, that way this thread should at least continue to provide good reading.

I feel that forced diversity in a cast has hampered TV/film. We're at a point where you can't even portray a rapist as anything other than white on TV because the amount of complaints and protest a network would get about a black, hispanic, gay, etc. having a non-positive portrayal or role model would hammer them into the ground. Every squad, crew, and/or office on television has a cast member of just about every possible background crammed in just to appease the whiners that cry their "group" isn't represented often enough or well enough.AlanC9 wrote...

It's unrealistic and it's the exact opposite of equality.

1)Maybe you're new, but its a Bioware thing for quite some time now.
2)THE M/M ROMANCE IN ME1 WAS VOICE RECORDED, just not implimented. It says the ME1 was originally intended to have same-sex pairings.

No it`s not. The world and western nations especially have a wide range of different people. In America many hispanics and blacks, in Germany many turkish, vietnamese and blacks. Ignore them would be unrealistic.
In the end, media has it`s responsibility. Of course, if you start to make the opposit it`s also not right, I agree in this point.

To be fair to all of those that fought so hard for sex and and race equality, the inability to have sex with whomever or whatever you want in a video game is hardly discrimination or really anywhere close to being similar.Grand Rider wrote...
My opinion is that these features should have been implemented from the get-go (Mass Effect 1). It saddens me that in this day and age the greater majority of society and by extension mainstream media can’t acknowledge that homosexuals exist and are as deserving of the same rights and privileges as anyone else.
Fifity years ago we’d be having this discussion about ethnicity, a hundred years ago it’d be about gender. It’s a damn shame, but I honestly believe that one day we’ll transcend these petty complications and everyone will be free and able to fully immerse themselves in quality role play games regardless of what they are or how they look.
But it’s symptomatic of an injustice that’s pervasive in society. I just don’t see the harm in allowing homosexuals to be able to express their natural preferences in games. The characters are digital actors; there’s no technical hurdle to surmount, it’s purely a unethical design choice by the developer.
Why should I begrudge someone else the same fundamental desires I allow myself; that I take for granted every day?
I alluded to civil rights/representation because it’s exactly what this issue is about. In a game where we the player are allowed and encouraged through a range of tools to tailor our experience to match our tastes, there’s a sizable minority who have been left out in the cold. If said minority was female and/or non Caucasian there’d be a far greater uproar and justifiably so.
It wouldn’t be fair, because it would be possible yet not implemented, which wouldn’t be right. Just like this issue here in my opinion.

i think it would only be a point of contension in television or film if they cast black/hispanic/whatever actor in lieu of a white actor that brought more to the role. in Mass Effect this isn't as much of an issue as we never see the people responsible for the voice talent. Jacob, for example, could be portrayed by a scrawny white albino female, and it would be irrelevant if her voice somehow fit the role.
this is all secondary to the topic at hand, though. people aren't asking for a a PC cast; they are asking for more choices in a game centered around choices.

This is a dumb idea from a business standpoint alone. Why would EA/Bioware release a DLC that is (quite obviously) not going to appeal to a big part of their original fanbase?
Brains. Use them, sometimes.

Why should that not appeal? Many here want or at least accept F/F and M/M. Do you really want to try to talk for the whole fanbase?
