Political correctness has already ruined enough things. I'm sick of every movie, game, and television show feeling like they have to include a positive black, hispanic, asian, female, etc. figure in the cast.

Do you really think that having diversity in the cast has ruined movies and TV shows? Seriously?

I feel that forced diversity in a cast has hampered TV/film. We're at a point where you can't even portray a rapist as anything other than white on TV because the amount of complaints and protest a network would get about a black, hispanic, gay, etc. having a non-positive portrayal or role model would hammer them into the ground. Every squad, crew, and/or office on television has a cast member of just about every possible background crammed in just to appease the whiners that cry their "group" isn't represented often enough or well enough.

It's unrealistic and it's the exact opposite of equality.

i think it would only be a point of contension in television or film if they cast black/hispanic/whatever actor in lieu of a white actor that brought more to the role. in Mass Effect this isn't as much of an issue as we never see the people responsible for the voice talent. Jacob, for example, could be portrayed by a scrawny white albino female, and it would be irrelevant if her voice somehow fit the role.

this is all secondary to the topic at hand, though. people aren't asking for a a PC cast; they are asking for more choices in a game centered around choices.

It's a game with limited choices. It's not the holodeck.

Huh?

This is a dumb idea from a business standpoint alone. Why would EA/Bioware release a DLC that is (quite obviously) not going to appeal to a big part of their original fanbase?

Brains. Use them, sometimes.

Have you seen a toolset for the Mass Effect series? I haven't. Without a means to create fan made mods, the only recourse there is to see anything happen is through Forum requests for DLC. People who want alternative romance options aren't whining, they are expressing concern, frustration, or opinion.

I truly think what was given as a pleasant surprise in ME1 for same sex romance options should not have been taken away in the very next sequel. Producing DLC to bring it back would be appreciated.

Why should that not appeal? Many here want or at least accept F/F and M/M. Do you really want to try to talk for the whole fanbase?

I think it is rather the new fanbase they are worrying about.

The original Bioware audience had no problem with the various gay and lesbian options of Dragon Age.

If the DLC simply removes gender restrictions from characters and merely changes dialog slightly than no I am not for it. I may be in the minority here but having characters have (insert gender preference here) seems to compromise the integrity of the character. They built bisexual characters from the ground up in DA:O, you knew Leliana and Zevran were bi from the conversations (I think that is one of the first things Zevran tells you), yet then everyone complained well why are Morrigan and Alister not bi. If they want to make some characters bisexual and it fits their character and the relationship is different then cool. If they want to make a gay or lesbian party member more the better as that would layers of characterization we have yet to see in a Bioware party, examples what if Jacob and Tali were strictly homosexual? That would boggle minds, especially in the Tali love camp and may incur the same wrath that is here, but it would also add another layer of realism.

Still I ask, why does Mass Effect have to cater to peoples varied sexual preferences? Seriously I feel sorry for Bioware who gave an inch now people want the whole mile. If there are those who feel strongly that there should be a Sci-Fi video game with homosexuality in it then please go and create such a game. This whole thing of sexual relationships in Mass Effect has gotten blown way out of proportion. Perhaps Shepard and crew have more important issues at stake than making out in the supply closet. Why do we assume there is homosexuality in other races of beings? Seriously, let it go. The story and characters of Mass Effect are as they are, if you don't like it then play some other game.

Here is my big issue with the whole homosexual thing.

When you include it you are saying you are on that side of the political debate.

But what about all those fans that disagree with homosexuality? When did it become LAW that they were wrong? I look in USA and its far more common to not endorse homosexuality then it is to. I look through out the world and its far more common to see homosexualy frowned upon or even outright illegal. Who are these people to deside others veiws for everyone?

They say its not the same as beastiality yet down to its core, its about who/what you have sex with and nothing else. Would the masses be happy if a character announced he was gay and then proceeded to act normally and never mention the topic again? Of course not, they are only happy when they see that character BED (have sex with) anouther man. So how is that any different then having a sheep lover? They both illegal in many parts of the world.

As I said in original post, this is a political issue and no gaming company should get involved one way or other. They shouldnt be pro or anti homosexuality, they should just leave topic alone until the day comes that its either legal everywhere or banned everywhere (and that day is coming).

Sorry, and I know the pro homosexual side will disagree, its simply not up to video gaming companies to try and influence players one way or the other on these topics. I wouldnt allow (or recommend) kids or others to play a game that tried to push the movement of legalizing drugs and I wont allow/recommend kids or others to play a game  a game that endorses homosexuality. Thats for society and the courts to figure out and unless the gaming company is going to be fair and present BOTH SIDES of the topic equally, they simply getting into waters they have no bussiness being in.

I love Dragon Age but my reveiw to players always comes with warning that they will shove the gay issue in your face if you dont kill Zavran soon as you meet him. More then a few freinds have replied that I wasnt wrong about Bioware going over board with the gay stuff and its the only real disappointment in the game for them. None of them will allow their kids to even watch them play game because of it (partly, other reasons as well but thats one of them).

As for me, I personally dont care if someone gay or not, just dont tell me about it or act the little queen role. Be a person and Ill judge you as a person, I dont need to know (nor do I want to) your sexual habits and preferences in bed. I dont want to hear what my straight frends do with their dates and I dont want to hear what my homosexual freinds do with theirs either! Thats your own PRIVATE BUSINESS and shouldnt be advertised.

And before anyone complains "But you have straight relationships in games". Hetrosexual relationships are except as natural and the norm world wide. When Homosexual can say that, then and only then should they be added to games as well.

Thats what gets me about the ****** topic, I dont introduce myself as being hetrosexual and go on to tell you what women and I do when in the privacy of my room, why do gays feel they have to? I DONT CARE AND DONT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT., Leave it unmentioned and undiscussed and just act like normal human being. No queen drama, no perverted sex stories, be a person and leave your bedroom at home and keep it to yourself! Seems like a good rule of thumb for life and games to me.

Sorry but you talk bull****. If you say that games shouldn`t be more like pong, you say that games are of a lower value than other media. In Germany this was called "entartete Kunst" by the ****s.

Games are equal to other medias and if someone wants to show homosexuals, it is so.

Go back into the middle ages, that is your time. I stay in the modern, democratic and free world.

"be a person and leave your bedroom at home and keep it to yourself!" Funny that you don't seem to have a problem with seven different sorts of new sex options in this game, and yet the second there's any hint of homosexual romance it's all "EWW ICKY KEEP IT AWAYZ!"

Hey look, you may have a slight bit of a point, if Bioware hadn't already included Liara as a lesbian option in the first game.  They opened the door themselves not just in this franchise but in stuff like KotOR and Jade Empire.  If they didn't want to deal with the controversy, maybe they shouldn't have courted it in the first place and then tried to come across as a groundbreaking company that "doesn't shy away" from these things, in their own words.

The fact is that there are seven whole new romances in ME2 in addition to the three originals, all of which includes four non-human sex scenes, and yet there's still not a single hint of a homosexual male romance?  It's ridiculous.  Practically offensive.  "We'd rather depict reptilian, insectoid intercourse before we include you gay guys." I don't know how they can stand not to be embarrassed of themselves.

I'd love to have same-sex romance options as DLC.  I'd be disappointed that such isn't offered in the main game already, but I'd pay.

Wouldn't matter if the cast was gay/straight/bi/trans there still getting paid to say the dirty stuff they already are xD anyways..like someone totally couldn't do this themselves? But making everything gender neutral to shift sexuallity both ways would require 1: Rewritting some of the plot 2: A few weeks and my favorite 3: Moar sex scene

Liara is a periphery character now. If it was a genuine continuation it would be fine.

Can you name three shows that have too many nonwhites in the cast? I can't think of any offhand. Except maybe  "The Office," but I don't really know anything about Scranton's demographics. Much of TV is set in places like New York, where there are plenty of nonwhites, and so you'll see them in the workplaces. "Seinfeld" is the exception that proves the rule. Most of the cast didn't have real jobs, and so they didn't interact with too many nonwhites.

As for rapists, I haven't statistically reviewed typical L&O:SVU offenders. There have been plenty of blacks, though.

Did anyone check out demographics in ME1? I get the feeling the game had way too many white humans in it. A flaw of SF generally, of course.

Are you 100 % sure there is no m/m or f/f? Thane, SuZe or Kelly don't swing both ways? Maybe one of them? I mean, maybe there are gay options?

I asked Casey Hudson in one of the live chats and he meant, that there are no F/F romances in the game. But on the other hand, it could be that he just tried to avoid "spoilers", so he said fast "no no, there were no female romances in the first game and so are no one in ME2"

True. If he doesn't consider Asari to be female then there may very well be an Asari relationship for female Shepards.

There has also been a showing of the files on the PC version that are loaded for the romance seen. They may or may not be fake but they show Kelly, Garrus, Tali, SuZe, Thane, Miranda, and Jacob. For some reason Jacob SuZe, miranda, and Tali's files were roughly the same size, but the others were 5 to 7 times larger

If you search for the samara love, or final love interest threads it's in the most recent ones of those.
