It's very unlikely that we'll even get minor cameos of previous squadmates in the next game - perhaps hints or references, however.

So, if you were to design an entirely new cast of squadmates for the next Mass Effect game, who would you choose?

I would include a romanceable female Turian. I said in a previous post that having a male with tech abilities would cause players to compare him to Garrus, so perhaps a non-military female Adept Turian would be better. She could be a civilian, scientist or an ex-journalist (not one who interviews you of course, I mean an actual squadmate). I'd like to see her with a Paragon-orientated personality.

I would also bring in a salarian of some sort - perhaps STG, but maybe that's staying too close to Mordin's ex-STG backstory.

So, enough from me - who would you bring in to be the protaganist's squadmates?

I've always wanted a batarian squadmate. Most of what we've learnt about them has come from pirates and mercenaries so it would be nice to learn a bit more about their culture.

Yeah. I'm personally not interested in Batarians, but I know a lot of players are interested in their culture and wanted to have one as a squadmate in ME3. I think Bioware will also probably give us squadmates from those two new races they talked about in that conference leak - if that turned out to be true, of course.

Everyone else in Mass Effect got a batarian team member of some sort except for Shepard. Aria and even Garrus had one.

I think we're probably going to get one squadmate from each/most races again - hopefully without the one male and one female human we usually get. In fact, I'd like to see no human squadmates this time around.

Human squad members are an absolute must for a game like this. Without them, a good portion of the fan base will be alienated, especially when considering the fact that any Mass Effect game BioWare makes is going to have romance content as well. A straight male PC will automatically get the upper hand if an asari is part of the group, since they are the only ones with a human face, while straight female PC's have nothing but presumably turians, and possibly male quarians (I have no doubt that batarians, salarians and krogan are permanently off-limits).

I guess you're right - but I still think they should tone down the emphasis on "HERE, HAVE A LOT OF HUMANS" xD

I'd feel a lot happier with the series as a whole if crew members on the ship, not just squadmates, were more alien too. I understand that the trilogy's Normandy ships were governed by the Alliance and Cerberus, but the next Mass Effect would look really racially colourful if there was a mix of racial backgrounds in the crew members, eg. the cook, medic and engineers.

I still do want the colorful mix though. The only ones I'd really want to never have on the ship are the vorcha and volus, because they're insufferable to listen to for long periods of time.

I agree. Vorcha would be too aggressive, anyway.

"SHHZZZAAGGHHK, WHAT DO YOU WANT?!"

"Do you have a minute to talk?"

"SSHKKKGHHZZK, GO AWAY HUMAN/ALIEN SCUM"

"Okay. Just okay. Just thought that you might want to talk, you know, being the ship's yeoman and all."

I like to have a Hanar, Volus, Elcor, Rachni(if in the game) Batarian and have a dlc where we find a planet that has some Inusannon that survived their war with the reapers and one becomes a squadmate.

Unfortunately, I don't think some of those are very likely - I watched a developer video from Bioware on the creation and reimagining of Garrus throughout the Mass Effect trilogy where they talked about Turians originally envisioned as having much longer arms and legs that bent in more places, but they had to fit a human skeleton for combat purposes and so they made them slightly more humanoid. Elcor, Hanar and Rachni would be very difficult to incorporate for gameplay reasons. Batarians are fairly likely, Volus are possible but a lot less likely.

I really hope that BioWare is able to give us a non-humanoid squadmate and/or playable characters for MP in the next title. I mean they said that switching to the Frostbite 3 engine would allow them to eliminate the need to recreate assets, animations, textures, etc. And that having all EA developers using the same engine would allow greater interaction between teams, meaning that certain game mechanics, assets, and animations could be easily transferred between design teams thanks to the common engine.

We need more 'alien' aliens as squadmates and major characters IMO, and a companion's inclusion into the game should be based less on how 'compatible' they are with our PC (love interests, making the aliens 'sexy') and more on how unique they are and what they can bring to the table both in terms of gameplay as well as story. A young Rachni Queen or a Rachni scout with a high degree of individuality would make a far better squadmate then another humanized alien with 'daddy issues'.

BioWare said that they wanted ME:Next to bring back the spirit of exploration to the series; the "whole stranger in a strange land" theme; and I can think of no better way then to give the players companions that have outlooks, ideologies, cultures, and appearances that are completely different then the human norm. Show us an alien that is different then us and one that doesn't apologize for being different; the Rachni's hive mind should be shown as this alien concept to us,  and not something that needs to be 'fixed' like the Geth in ME 3.

I know exactly what you mean. Whilst I'm not terribly fond of the idea of having more than half the squadmates non-humanoid (would feel a bit too different when compared with previous Mass Effect games), I'm all up for having two or three non-humanoid squadmates. Hopefully Frostbite 3 should open up that opportunity to Bioware. Yet whatever happens, I'd still want a female Turian Adept squadmate :3

I'm more interested in the plot rather than gameplay because in previous Mass Effect EVERY squadmate got a pretty high position in the universe...Ashley/Kaidan became a SPECTRE and high-ranking officer, Garrus became big-ass military advisor, Wrex became the leader of ENTIRE KROGAN RACE, Liara became a Shadow Broker, Tali - Admiral...and so on. I'm glad that it didn't happen with ME2 characters. Even Miranda was just some fugitive, Mordin remained just a scientist - you get the idea. I like that my actions have some influence but c'mon, it doesn't happen like this in real life. Let some of them be unexpectedly grown (like Konrad Verner in ME3) or leave them at the same level or even go to the bottom if you didn't help them at the right moment.
And romance...it looks like no one in ME trilogy has a taste or preferences. If you are Shepard, no matter how ugly you are, how much of an ******* you are or how much of a ***** you are, EVERYONE will be attracted to you. I think there should be implemented some 'Authority/Impression' and 'Respect' meters caused by your words/actions. For example, it would've been awesome if you fail Thane's loyalty mission and his son flees, he wouldn't want to have a romance with you anymore. Or if you are ruthless, some squad members are afraid of you and don't want to get close to you. Also I would like the game to be able to calculate your 'attractiveness' by measuring your slider positions. For example, if you max out or minimize all sliders, it's unlikely that characters will find you attractive. BTW, I liked how Jacob just dumbed FemShep without saying a word! Yeah, that happens boys and girls, not everyone has a habit of staying faithful. And the last one...Poly-relationships...yes,yes, if you give your game 18+ label, why not to just implement a threesome element for once? But it's just my personal preference.

Well actually, Mass Effect was a 12+ and Mass Effect 3 was a 15+. Not to mention that poly-relationships ruin the idea of love altogether. If the protagonist starts a relationship with a character, they're not going to like the idea of them going off and starting a relationship with another NPC at the same time. I think poly-relationships are just overall a bad idea.

I wasn't going to suggest to remove jealousy completely and to end the game in massive orgy. It would be plain stupid and would be a different genre. But you have to admit, some people don't feel jealousy or at least not that much. For example Jack and Kelly. They have a strong feeling for Shepard (at least Jack does) but they don't seem to care if you're interested in somebody else as well and if Kelly was made as much of a love interest as Jack, I don't see why would they have problems with each other.

But I see your point. If kids gonna play this game, yes, maybe it's a bad idea. Although It could be hidden and difficult to get since everyone is asking for a dynamic romance instead of 'choose every paragon option and wait for your PRIIIIZE'. And from the lore perspective, it's really wierd that every living being has a standard thinking of a modern USA citizen. What about cultural differences? Even now on Earth we have people with so different preferences. And other species? I doubt all of them have that standart attitude towards love.

Harbinger as squadmate or a Awaken Collector with Harbinger's voice, Batarian, Geth, Rachni, Elcor, I WOULD HOPE WE see female versions of races, or acknowledge they exist of the Drell, Vorcha, Batarians, and any new races unless otherwise specified, like the Asari.

I like to see more non humanoid races, like the Hanar, Elcor, Rachni, Geth, Keepers, Reapers/Leviathans. ME1 seemed to have the have the most non humanoid race on screen, ME3 the least. Also more aliens to human ratio. I swear you saw more humans on the Ctadel than you did aliens. I didn't like Omega much but one thing I really approved of was how many NPCs were aliens. I think there were less 5 human NPCs outside of Cerberus units on Omega.

PS Bray was awesome, I wish he was a squadmate on the Normandy. A Geth Prime, Juggernaut, or Destroyer would have been an awesome ME3 squadmate too.

All the turian boys please! And they should make atleast one bisexual. I've seen alot of gay gamers complain about Garrus being straight, and I sympathize deeply lol.

Well Batarian, Volus, and Vorcha are already playable in multiplayer (easy to see how their skeleton can sort of fit the default model). I don't know if they're likely to be squad mates in ME4 though.. The most popular races are prob definitely going to be represented by a squadmate. Like asari, turian, quarian, krogan, salarian. Maybe drell, maybe batarian? There's also bound to be spots reserved for the new races. They should switch up  the genders too, like female turian, female krogan, male quarian, female drell, etc etc

Female turians are a must, yes. I want to just forget all about Nyreen forever.

I would still like at least one human on the squad, in any case. ME has had a number of human squadmates that present great personalities (James) and interesting character arcs (Miri) and I'd like to see that continue.

From the E3 trailer does anyone else get the feeling that they might be moving away from the races we already know in the ME universe?

I'd get some amusement out of having a Vorcha bard/singer/entertainer though, even if it was a minor squadmate  :D
