Last week I was playing ME1 again, and I was doing the mission where you have a conversation with Sovereign... for some reason, every time I have that conversation, Sovereign gives me the creeps, I litterally get shivers down my spine and feel uncomfortable....LOL

Anyone else have that too?

Best moment in the trilogy. Yes goosebumps every single time.

I recently introduced ME to a friend, he was shouting at the screen from amazement.

Certainly a favorite trilogy moment. As CptFalconPunch says, goosebumps every time, even when I know it's coming.

I like Sovereign's lines. Not a huge fan of Shepard's.

Time for unpopular opinion I guess. Wasn't impressed by it. Leviathan big conversation is much better IMO.

I wonder if Sovereign had to talk tough because he was lacking something.

I would like to hear that scene with a female voice. Maybe the same voice that is used for Meredith, Jean Gilpin, in DA2.

I do have to wonder about all this smack talk from these supposed "gods". Does a "god" really need to engage in smack talk?

He didn't have to engage in anything, Sovereign got insulted from there mere organics that dared to touch his mind. etc...

Harbinger is all smack talk for some reason anyway.

Also not "gods", more like lovecraft's interpretation of them.

I love that conversation. Of course, its a complete troll, but its layered with all of these implications....

one of the most epic memorable moments of video games for me will always remember that scene

we have no beginning we have no end we are infinite

your words are as empty as your future

vanguard of your destruction

yeah talk it up sunshine

I'm going to end you big boy

Thats why he went to the citadel, to get some of Morlans 'enhancements'

Self-proclaimed gods seem to do that all the time....

Also, for some reason I now imagine Sovereigns conversation with ADHD:

"Your future is as empty as - oh a butterfly!"

"I'm the Vanguard of ... lolcat-pictures!"

But really; Sovereigns conversation was way better than anything we got thereafter.

(Though Harbingers line at the end of the suicide mission take a close second place)

I didn't care for the part where he insists reapers are beyond our understanding. Sorry writers, saying something is beyond my understanding doesn't make it so.

That said, I enjoy Sovereign's little speech (including his heading change of 180 after Shepard calls him out), and Leviathan's conversation.

Saying so makes them NOT be the main focus of our stories. And come on these guys live forever, we're basing all of our technology from them and we still cannot  understand it, and they make me feel as something they are growing in their garden. Acting all indifferent radiates superiority.

They didn't just say so, the whole game revolves around it.

I cast myself in Shepard's role rather than stooping to his written level of intellect. Honestly I don't see anything about the Reapers as being difficult to understand, though Shepard probably does. I'm not a very good role-player.

I'm not really talking about shepard. But I think sovereign was pretty convincing within ME1. He was so confident and indifferent, I loved it.

Just think about it, you're dropped in a world, where you're using technology you don't understand, for living, for fighting, for everything. Then suddently you happen to bump into one of the guys that made all this up, and to you realize they're gardening organics just like you would treat your back yard.

Everything from the music to the main missions being a foreshadowing of the main plot make this possible.

I don't blame you for getting invested though, some things are too subtle for people to grasp and Lovecraftian horror is 100% around subtlety. Even if you don't buy it you're facing a kick ass villain whos defeat gives you immense satisfaction. A win-win scenario ;)

The conversation made me 'fear' the Reapers. They simply didn't care about us. And that made them an incredibly scary enemy.

I've always believed that they didn't need any more explanation than Sovereign gave.

Explaining them killed the mystery and the fear they created.

The scary villians to me are the ones you don't know are friend or foe, and are obviously ambitious and cunning. The speech and his voice, are what made sovereign  seem tough; no chills. To me, I think the Shadow Broker was scarier until they revealed him. One person, absolute control of the criminal underworld, no one has seen him, and people never betray him without fearing for their life; even Spectres cringe when hearing about him.

Everytime I have that conversation, Shepard makes me cringe with his stupid "you're just a machine" line.

. They want to keep us in the dark. They know it is easy to understand. It is psychological warfare. It is just my interpretation .

I think I agree. Also, the... oddness of what they say and what they don't say reveals much about what is actually going on, even if Shepard doesn't quite put it together. At least in my opinion.

If the Leviathan conversation has been in the game originally then I would find myself debating that point.

Problem was that it felt to me that it was a patch to try and explain things for an ending that people didn't like.

Loved the Sovereign convo. It sucks that it leads to one of Shep's worst lines in the game but it was still a creepy exchange regardless.
