. They want to keep us in the dark. They know it is easy to understand. It is psychological warfare. It is just my interpretation .
If they did, they wouldn't even speak about it :/ Still don't see what is going on? ![]()

Leviathan big conversation is much better IMO.
First of all I think the conversation was very eery and fascinating, but there is an inherent problem with the concept of the Reapers. BioWare, the fans (and all human beings) are limited organic lifeforms, so we can't really design an entity that is beyond our understanding. It's interesting really, but we can only design an enemy that we can somehow understand. This is why the concept of the Reapers was truly impossible to fully realize and hence why they constituted a problem that BioWare themselves didn't know how to solve, without resorting to a Deus Ex Machina.
With that said, I imagine that in reality the Reapers wouldn't even acknowledge us, much less communicate with us directly. I understand why it happened, because the experience would be more interesting for players if the enemy is somewhat relatable. In this case the Reaper expressed itself so that we could get a sense of the massive threat they posed. I think it would've been great if they never communicated with us directly.. only subliminally, like in the case of indoctrination.
Anyway, I think it's fascinating to see Shepard trading words with Sovereign. This showed us how vulnerable Shepard really was in this context, because in this case he just expressed his own naivete and ignorance. Shepards responses came of as petty and irrelevant. I loved this moment, when Shepard talks back at an entity that is so beyond him he can't help but seem lost.. in this moment we realize that our very existence has been facilitated by hyper-advanced sentient machines. That is chilling indeed.
I really love the concept of the Reapers, but it's inevitably limited by the format in which they exist (games) and by its OOU creators (humans).
I've always believed that they didn't need any more explanation than Sovereign gave.
Explaining them killed the mystery and the fear they created.
I agree. They didn't need an explanation. Less (information) is more (fear).
The whole concept of the Leviathans sucked (to me). Magical immortal space octopuses. Seems legit.
The lifespan of the Leviathans is never given, but I don't think they're immortal.
Sovereign was the best Reaper, yes, he was scary.
I was disappointed by the Reapers on ME2-3, they totally lack of consistency.
Harbinger was the best reaper. My Shepard enjoyed hearing him talk smack to her. Too bad he didn't have a bigger role in ME3. Just like the ME2 characters, he was reduced to a cameo.

The one you speak to clearly stated he was the descendant of the Leviathans that created the Reapers.
