It seems to me that many people are terrified of the game and BioWare games in general being less RPG-ish. And I'm somewhat suspecting that's really where this comes from. It's an RPG, this is supposedly an RPG feature, so it's gotta be there or BioWare is clearly pandoring to Gears of War and Call of Duty players.

I mean, look at Mass Effect. The companions in 2 and 3 had two or three outfits and people were overwhelmingly perfectly fine with it. The few complaints generally focused on the outfits supposedly not being practical enough, not with dissatisfaction over a lack of selection.

Have you considered people 'like' this just to satisfy a paranoia that, yes, DA:I really is an RPG, despite the fact the actual impact in game may well be pretty insignificant?

Just to be clear "Outfit" and "Gear" are different concepts.

An outfit is just the aesthetic property, the gear is the important bit of player-agency, allowing you to fine tune the character's performance. Classic Min/Max stuff.

For companion characters, "Outfit" comes very low on the priority list for myself, but "Gear" is somewhat high up. The Player Character I'd put them much closer together though. Perhaps even "Outfit" nudging out "Gear" by a narrow margin.

Agreed.
Could you PM me about it?

I Freuded up the reading of this post pretty bad. I won't go into the details.

She has a somewhat mannish jawline. Not that it bad, but it would fit strong stoic type like Cassandra better, in term of look. I would have prefer for them to switch skull.  :P

I didn't befriend or take around Morrigan for my first like 3 DOA runs because I pretty much never ran into new gear that would be good for her once she had gloves and rings. For me finding gear that's just slightly better than what we're wearing right now and slowly upgrading until maybe someone is wearing a full set of something while most of us are mismatched hodgepodges based on stats is proof I'm progressing in the game and I love it.

It's not about fearing DAI will be less 'RPG-ish'. I couldn't care less about labels. I enjoy different types of games, and even without armour customization for companion I'd probably still enjoy DAI.
I just like the feature, for the reason Defragratio well stated.
And no, I wasn't fine at all with the number of outfits in ME2-ME3, or the system used. Though as I said, I can live with it.
Edit: I'm not going to derail this thread even further though.

Personally i think her haircut is great, the texture needs a little work though, or maybe its just the lighting?

Why weren't you fine with it?

Did it diminish the characters, either aesthetically or narratively? Diminish combat?

I'm thinking it's either her or Vivienne that is going to be the lesbian option. They're both pretty, my femquisitor may lean more toward Vivienne though. I'm guessing that

Cassandra: Straight

Vivienne/Sera: Gay

Scribe girl: Bi

Solas: Straight

Mustache guy: Gay

Cullen: Bi

My pet peeve is appearance changing mods really.

That being said I kinda like her look really looks rough and "Hey screw you I wear what I like"

Don't forget the inevitable "Fair Vivienne" and "Prettier Cassandra"

This tangent isn't really relevant to a thread about new characters being revealed - you might want to take this issue to a different thread?

'Hate' that people enjoy beauty? Or that they don't much care about the developer's 'pure intention' for the character?

You have to ask how limiting being able to equip your party could affect combat?

Have you even played Dragon Age: Origins, David?

I would argue that all the females were being made to be aesthetically pleasing. The guys are made to look manly, some are good looking but not all of them. There are so many complains about Solas, and not many are eager with him being a LI.

I like the choose with gear use for my character and my companions based on their stats, so that I can affect their performance. Since It's a a feature I like, I'd miss it isn't present. Other than that, the ME2/ME3 system wasn't fine because it didn't give (in my opinion) enough choices, and because (in ME2) where just a colour swap. Even in ME3 some outfits were just a color swap. If they're going to use this approach, at least make all the outfits different from each others.
Edit: if you want to continu the discussion, PM me.

That's a great pic imo, I think she's quite attractive. The outfit looks great with the torn cloth, and she actually has protective gear for archery. And I definitely like the "pretty human with pointy ears" style elves over the DA2 design.

The hairstyle looks good, but it's still very "plastic" looking.

Making dark-skinned characters white is something very different from simply "enjoying beauty".

The modding tangent aside, I wonder if they'll reveal all the remaining characters before E3. Wouldn't that mean multiple characters per day?

Sera, Dramatic Hands Mustache, Beardy McGrizztaint (Warden), Cole are the only companions that weren't revealed in some capacity before today right? Maybe Solas belongs on that list... but I'm not entirely sure. Scribbles hasn't been revealed either, but she's not really a companion in the traditional sense so it's ab it of a grey area.

You know, I get the feeling that if someone casually admitted they didn't find people with dark skin attractive, you wouldn't have a problem with it. You can't make a person want something, after all. They like what they like.

But going through the effort of making a mod and releasing it comes off differently, doesn't it?

Mmm.

I don't think I'd ever use mods that drastically change a characters appearence (unless the character is ugly by poor design and art), but it's kind of a silly thing to 'hate.'

Interesting that they're using the word 'hero.'

Oh yeah, they are indeed. Idk why I was under the impression there were more characters and/or less days left (I didn't count the advisors, so I blame timezones: it was already Friday here when Sera was revealed :D)

Hate that people disrespect BioWare's original character design. Also calling something "prettier" is an opinion. If the mod was called "alternate Cassandra" i'd have absolutely no issue with it.

Anyway, this doesn't really matter, since modding won't be possible in DA:I

I'm curious how you feel about fan fiction.

Is it an opinion? It will be in some cases, but that's kind of an absurd rule to apply generally. It wouldn't be hard to find two pictures where everyone agrees which one is better looking. I could no doubt find any number of Wikipedia articles on fiction which mention a character is 'beautiful' or so forth.

It would be pretty damn silly to essentially remove any meaning from the words 'beauty' and 'ugly' on the grounds of 'everything is subjective.' Few very things are objectively carved as truth into the very universe or digits of pi or whatever. We go down that road, we remove our ability to speak and perhaps even think about 99% of the universe.
