You know, I get the feeling that if someone casually admitted they didn't find people with dark skin attractive, you wouldn't have a problem with it. You can't make a person want something, after all. They like what they like.

But going through the effort of making a mod and releasing it comes off differently, doesn't it?

Mmm.

I don't think I'd ever use mods that drastically change a characters appearence (unless the character is ugly by poor design and art), but it's kind of a silly thing to 'hate.'

I probably wouldn't have a problem with the person (i.e. I wouldn't start a fight with them over it), but I do have a problem with the underlying attitude that white people are generally considered more attractive, which in itself is rooted in racism. (edit: I mean on the society's level, not necessarily on a personal level)

My problem, and many others', with the "beautifying" mods overall is that they are often based on the idea that women* need to be conventionally attractive in order to be interesting or worthwhile. And that is just messed up, and that is why I feel I must oppose, and yes, hate, these mods: they reinforce the impossible standards women are held to both in fiction and in the real world.

* I know there are mods for male characters as well and that there are attractiveness standards for men, but the problem is much more prominent for women.

I feel this is getting OT, and this is the last post I'll make on this subject.

Sera, Dramatic Hands Mustache, Beardy McGrizztaint (Warden), Cole are the only companions that weren't revealed in some capacity before today right? Maybe Solas belongs on that list... but I'm not entirely sure. Scribbles hasn't been revealed either, but she's not really a companion in the traditional sense so it's ab it of a grey area.

I think it depends on how much detail they're going to go into for each character.

Vivienne got three or four pieces of writing (including her cosplay outfit thing), but Sera only has one quote at the moment and nothing else. I can see them revealing the names of all the other companions, but maybe not their biography or much about them.

(The companion reveals have been hugely haphazard, really - there were cosplay outfits for Viv, Varric and Cassandra... and everyone else has sort of leaked out with not much information, and certainly no consistency to the way they're revealing or talking about the characters.)

I'm assuming they'll follow this format up until E3, and then after E3 they'll elaborate a lot more on the official site.

I think at this point we'd just be happy to know their names. (Or more accurately, confirmation of names)

Hate that people disrespect BioWare's original character design. Also calling something "prettier" is an opinion. If the mod was called "alternate Cassandra" i'd have absolutely no issue with it.

Anyway, this doesn't really matter, since modding won't be possible in DA:I

So you hate custom art and fan fiction ? Fan fiction is much worse than any mod. In disrespecting characters.

What people do in their own time, makes no difference to the game as released.

The first part isn't racism.

White people are attracted to white people more. It has nothing to do with racism, it's genetics.

As for the modding part, the only reason there are more female mods is that there are more male modders. Naturally most male modders don't really care if their maleshep is pretty. That being said, on TESNEXUS there are a lot of female beautifying mods that were made by females.

You cannot force someone to be attrached to a certain type of person. You can't put a gun to their head. If you could, you could bet the industry would be pissing itself in a scramble to market a way to rewire brains so humans find fat people or short people or people with acne or people who smell bad or whatever attractive. Not to compare any race with any of that.

You can't make them want it.

Do you feel the idea, that everything else being equal, a beautiful person is more 'worthwhile' messed up? Not that an ugly person is necessarily worthless or anything close to it, merely that a beautiful person, all else being equal, is more?

I care a whole hell of a lot if my male player character is good-looking. I wish there were more good looking male characters in BioWare games.

Hasn't it been kind of a fandom headcanon that she's a total prankster? This is just PERFECT in that regard, and I find it hard to believe it wasn't intentional. :D

God, I love her already, I mean those freckles :).

The hair looks good. It's not beautiful but it seems to fit her, which in my opinion is way more important.. (plus I have a thing for short hair)

As soon as I saw the first images I knew she was going to be my first romance and a constant companion (since Leliana will probably not be an option)

I imagine so.

They've only "officially" revealed four characters, at best - Varric, Viv, Cassandra and maybe Solas. Solas hasn't had a proper introduction, and the other five characters (Iron Bull, DHMG, Cole, Sera, the Warden) are more or less unrevealed, except in concept art.

It'd be slightly weird if, in "meeting the heroes", we only met one or two of them :P

Don't forget the inevitable "Fair Vivienne" and "Prettier Cassandra"

I hate people.

Let's not forget the inevitable 'traditional dwarven Varric with beard' look.

I can imagine it now...

*solemn coronation scene of the main character as the Inquisition's leader*

Everyone in formation, party members and soldiers alike clapping, bowing, nodding but in orderly fashion.

And then there's Sera, cheering at the top of her lungs.

Sera: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH

I mentioned it in the Sera character thread - why is she suddenly white? It is the kind of thing that garners controversy and hurt, whether one means for it to happen or not. Sorry if i'm being melodramatic Biowarian for once, but forreal I hope the lighting is just doing that.

Ikr. That white Isabela mod was so goddamn offensive. I know that it's totally free-speech and they can do what they want, doesn't mean it's not offensive as hell.

I have a few appearance mods on some chars. Usually just outfit mods or minor tweaks to make them look a bit less cartoony. I hate seeing those mods where they make every female companion look like an animu chibi.

The Dark Sheep is proud to present the officially first ever "Sera beautification mod"!

Someone in the twitter thread suggested that her hair suffered from lack of ambient occlusion, so I took the liberty to shop in a little shadow around her hairline.. I think he was right. To me her hair looks a little bit more real with the shadows.
