There's no such thing as an "American" or an "English" accent, either.  What's generally considered an "American" accent is a Midwestern accent (although some parts of the Midwest have their own distinct accents) and an "English" accent is actually something called "Received Pronunciation".

Good point. I've heard of the generic English accent referred to as the "BBC accent".

"BBC English" is a common trope, but in reality it doesn't exist: the BBC has never enforced specific pronunciation guidelines. Not even when all its announcers were Oxbridge-educated white males.

In linguistics, I believe RP is the preferred term for the posh southern English accent most people from outside the UK associate with British English, but even there it gets a bit dicey with the definitions.

Well I mean, I seem to be the only one dreading being called "inquisitor" by everyone and everything. So id really love being called by my characters last name or having a  choice on first names.

As for the name thing... I"m not too keen on the idea of choosing from a preset selection. I would absolutely hate to give up the option of naming my character whatever I want. I'm fine with acquaintances calling my character "Inquisitor," friends calling her "friend/pal/buddy" etc, and love interests calling her "my love" or something along those lines.

I think it'd be nice to have companions call the Inquisitor by name every now and again once their friendship reaches a certain level, it shows a closeness that "friend", "pal", and "Inquisitor" don't really have.

I agree with that but I guess for me that doesn't outweigh my love of naming my characters whatever I want... Like if I'm obsessing over a certain show, I wanna be able to name my character after that show. :P Even though the name wouldn't make a significant appearance anywhere in game, it's more of a psychological plus.

I seem to be in the minority here, though.

There are a few things I want to see in DA3:

*Please bring back the different voice options!
*The option to have other NPCs actually SAY your character's name (like in DA2 with them saying "Hawke")
---------with this one I was thinking of having possible preset names that you can choose from, and then if you don't choose a preset, you'll live with them NOT saying your name (obviously a big request, and probably very hard to do).
*I'd also like to see the different origins again (such as noble/commoner/city elf/Dalish elf)

  1. Each Gender will have to voices to choose from.
  2. It is unclear but from what I have seen they will be calling him 'inquisitor'
  3. Origins will probably not be playable but only implied.

So despite never hearing it said, it's worth it because it gives you more room to customize it to your preference? I think the people asking for a silent protagonist might agree with you.

I believe it was hinted that companions might refer to us by last name (since those are fixed per race and potentially mage/mundane), but that was long ago, so who knows what the status is now.

I actually have the same opinion. I was just making a point, if you read the sentence you removed in your quote.

I like creating my own first name as well. I don't think I've ever used the default first name. Maybe they'll have tiers and different companions will use different ones:

Impersonal used by companions and npcs: Boss, Commander, Last Name

Friendly: Buddy, Friend, a nickname (Varric should be good for that), Last Name but with a friendlier tone

Romantic: My love, Dearest, Love, Lover, Sweetie, Stud Muffin, Goddess, Schmooples, Cuddles, Sweet Cheeks

Fun to think about. Maybe the next time my Warden romances Leliana in my head I'll have her calling him/her 'Schmooples' . . . .

Yeah, that's why I was saying to have the presets, but then if you didn't want a preset, to have the option to name your character what you wanted

I hope the "American" accent is a really dry, flat, drawly one, though.

People say American accent, but Bioware could use Canadian VAs, which is heresy to some.

1) Each gender gets 2 voice options, one of an Ametican accent and one an English accent

2) Last names maybe, but don't expect first names.

3) We don't have origin stories to play through. We don't know human, but we know Dwarf= surfacer, Elf = Dalish, and Qunari = Vashoth.

I was wondering earlier which would be more appropriate for a Dalish Inquisitor.  I know their accents changed from "American" after DA: O to Welsh or Irish (I'm bad at picking up accents, sorry).  I wouldn't want my Dalish to sound extremely different from any other Dalish she encounters, depending on which accent they will have in DA: I.  It's a small thing *shrugs*

I really like the first name idea. I'd love that. Sometimes your full name can even be mentioned. That would be cool to hear. At the very least, id like to be called my last name a good amount. I know there will be a lot of times that people call me Inquisitor and im good with that, but I hope my companions will start calling me atleast by my last name most of the time and Varric should have a nickname for me.

Voice slider to change pitch and tone. If I make Qunari I don't want him to sound like Joe Everyman plus not liking the Male Inquisitor VA from gameplay footage shown thus far
