Got to agree with Hizoku Cassandra looks like shes been beat with the ugly stick since DA2. When they did Atelier Meruru they made Rorona 8 rather than make her 40. Seeing the DA:I characters I kind of get that now.

Blackwall is a common surname.

 

I have never met nor even heard the name before today. It's not a common name in Canada at least.

Why are so many of the companions so... ugly? Cassandra looks more like Biff Sledgefist, Solas has an abnormal head and oddly elongated face, Iron Bull has a tiny little head, Cole has 'sadsack Donte' disease, Sera looks like Emma Stone's meth-head sister, and now Bear Warden looks homeless. The devs keep going on and on about how gorgeous the game is but they can't seem to make gorgeous characters to save their lives.

Relatively homely people can still be badass and save the world.

Besides, screenshots don't do the characters justice. They may look way better in game as not all looks are photogenic.

Cassandra looks way better in the videos, for example.

I just realised it's Blackwell I've heard a lot as a surname rather than Blackwall. After a quick google I'd hazard a guess that Blackwall/Blackwell got used a little interchangably in English parish records and Blackwell was the broad winner.

Like the guys above said. It's a surname. Perhaps it's how people identify him. A la Hawke and Shepard. I like it. Pretty sure it's British so a possible native of Ferelden?

 

Mostly the name reminds me of the Blackwall Tunnel in London which runs under the Thames.   I guess that's a kind of 'deep road' in a sense...

yeah I'm not sure I like it either, it makes it sound like he's going to be some depressing, all work and no play sort of character.

because not everyone views beauty the same as you nor considers beauty to be as important as you seem to be implying it is.

Yeah im getting the impression as well, His long walk is fast approaching and going to be a big part of his interactions with the Inquisitor. Sort  of like Wynne's situation in DA:O.

 

Personally though, I think Cassandra is the most most beautiful of the bunch. Not finding any of the other companions nice looking either, that being said they all do sound interesting and i look forward to getting to know them, but yeah Im hoping Cass is the bi character.

Not sure what it is, but he's pulling this Torgo vibe for me.  Maybe the off stare or the scraggly beard but I hear the Torgo theme looking at him.  I can hear him telling the Inquisitor "My real name is Roger..."

Agreed. The Last Supper shot made Sera look a bit ugly, IMO. But in the new screenshoot, she looks nice.

 

I like Blackwall's name, but it'll take some getting used to after so much "Ser Beardy McBara Warden".

Yes, despite the deceptively ordinary screenshots, Blackwall is actually a city-sized golem companion.

I ran that Blackwell could just be a placeholder reference to Stroud. But like I said, who knows. Two more days damnit

So incredibly off-topic, but I don't think any of the companions/advisors that we've gotten a good look at (so excluding DHMG, Cole and Scribbles, none of which seem unattractive in the one photograph that we can barely see them in anyway) are ugly. And to top that off, they've all looked interesting, which is the most important thing to me when it comes to aesthetic, anyway. Beyond scars (which I dig), I would even say that Cassandra, Varric, Sera and Vivienne are all quite conventionally attractive, and not just personally. Minus Sera's hair of course
