Thanks to a rather nice price break on Origin I noticed today, even my miserly posterior couldn't pass this up, although I haven't quite finished making it through Awakening yet.  However, since I snagged the Ultimate Edition of the previous game and got everything through the power of bundling, I'm a little less certain of how to approach the a la carte DLC that's available for this game, especially since the way my brain works, the $6 the main game cost me makes me happy, but rather than figure I can now afford the other bits more easily, I end up just thinking that the various packs sextuple the price.  And so a few questions to that end, if anyone could be so kind as to help me out:

1. There appear to be three "content" packs on the website, Legacy, The Exiled Prince, and Mark of the Assassin.  However, I don't see MotA in the list of available options on Origin.  Is it limited somehow?  And if I decide I do want to buy it, will purchasing via the website still make it work with the Origin edition I bought?  I'm unsure since the opening the DLC list on the website told me I needed to go back into Origin.

2. On that note, without too many spoilers hopefully, how are the various content packs?  As I understand it, Legacy has some seriously juicy plot stuff, and Prince is an extra party member ala Shale in Origins, but I don't really know what the "perk" of MotA is supposed to be, in comparison to the other two.  For that matter, how beefy are the content packs?  The ones in Origins were pretty neat, but only around 30-60 minutes it felt like, which is fine bundled but would make me a little heistant at $7-$10 a pop.

3. Finally, what's the deal the various item packs?  Are they more for style, or closer to a "pay to win" approach.  I'm not necessairly opposed to either, but I like to know what I'm getting.

Legacy and MotA are both good content mods; recommended. Also the Black Emporium is quite helpful with items, respec potions, and a device to alter appearances.  And being Techless, I cannot speak to the mechanics needed to add MotA, but it does have some of the better Boss fights in the entire game; far better than Kiting festivals.

While I liked The Exiled Prince, it did not add the desired content or NPC like Shale; The Stone Prisoner. And the item packs are more for appearances, so only if you wish to change looks. IMO, of course.

I actually had this same question about the Xbox 360 version as I picked it up yesterday in prep for Inquisition.  Thanks for all the insight!

OP, you can buy any DLC missing from Origin through the old BioWare site.

https://social.biowa...om/page/da2-dlc

The various item packs do contain overpowered items, which not only make the game even easier, they completely remove the need to actually find gear in the game world. Basically, any found gear will be trash, so there's never a need to upgrade or replace anything. The DLC gear will always be better. Depending on your view, that can be a very bad thing. My personal recommendation is to play the game at least once without any of the item packs. After that, get 'em. They are good and fun to have, but like I said, very overpowered.

Yeah the items that level up with you make most battles a breeze. If you do Legacy at a high level, the Warden armor you loot can potentially have superior stats than the mantle of the Champion. If you're a mage, The Hawke's Key staff is plenty powerful itself.

Legacy is great, as it gives some good insight into Hawke's family and the Wardens. The Warden Armor can be awesome depending on your level as KaiserShep said, and the Hawke's Key is generally very powerful no matter what class you are. There is also a way to "break" the system when adding powers to your staff. You should technically only be able to add three effects to your Hawke's Key, but there is a way to add all 12 effects if you are careful (which I usually do because I like having a weapon of mass destruction :D).

The Exiled Prince is decent. I like the quest in Act 3 because you get to see an old friend from Origins. Sebastian (aka Choir Boy) is a bit self-righteous and goody-goody, but he's okay as a companion and a decent archer. You can also "romance" him if you are a female, if you can call it that.

Mark of the Assassin is all right. Tallis is an okay character, and there are some great boss fights. I especially love the "rescuing" part with your companions, as the different combinations of companions and their romance statuses can create some hilarious results. It also has some fun banter between party members, particularly if your LI is there, and it's fun to flirt with Tallis in front of your LI because most of them don't react in a positive manner, which is amusing.

The Weapon and Armor packs have extremely overpowered gear that removes the need for the in-game armor/weapons, like Animositisomina said. It's great stuff and some of it looks amazing, but you will never have a need for the in-game armor/weapons if you use them, even the Champion armors.

The item packs are cool. The weapons and armor for warrior looks really cool especially the 2 handed sword.  Also the weapons level up as you do and your companions can use them. There is some stuff like a ring and amulet meant for each companion that level up as well.

I enjoyed the dlc's. I found them better than the main game

The DLC's addressed some of the key complaints of the main game, namely the environments. The only one that was questionable was the cave in Sebastian's quest, because despite looking different on the surface, you can see that they pasted the appearance over the same layout of one of the other caves you go through in the vanilla game.
