Since we're going to Orlais, I thought they would offer French as an option. I'm interesting to know why both of our accents have English origin as opposed to a French one. I'm guessing it's not as marketable, and an American accent would appeal more toward the United States audience.

Considering how Orlais(sp?) is so prominent in this game, I am baffled as why they just didn't allow the Inquisitor to be from Orlais with the French accent and everything. We have played two games already with the standard English accent. I want something new.

I think two options is already incredibly kind, given what it would cost to have every single line of the male and female protagonist's dialogue recorded again.
Nah, I mean that they both have English origins. I would have like to see it either English/French or American/French.

But yeah, I definitely accepted that there was a possibility we would only have one set.

I'm sure the thinking was to give options that are at least regionally kinda sorta close if you squint to the major english speaking markets that'll get this version, but I really much prefer to have Orlesian and whatever accent would best cover the non-human options. Having generically 'my' accent doesn't do anything for immersion or roleplay for me. It's more a negative; I'm not playing myself. I appreciate having options though.
Just wherever it's set, that accent should be an option. French if Orlais. Spanish if Nevarra, Welsh or Irish for the Dales, etc. I don't want to always be playing Fereldanish.

I admit I'm just glad we get two per gender. I thought we'd be locked with one.

The accent choice might be linked to the Inquisitor's origin. The human Inquisitor at least has a Cornish surname, which might point to an origin in Ferelden. Maybe the other origins come from Ferelden as well. That would expain the British or American accents, at any rate.
That being said, I do wish we had an Orlesian PC this time around.

American/English accents make more sense in my opinion. Mainly because I think the Inquisitor is from Fereldan as well, just like Hawke and the Warden.

We are all forgetting the non-human races. Dalish have cornish/native english accents, which isn't an option. Dwarves have exclusively had american accents thus far. Qunari have had american or british accents as well. Humans vary.
So American and/or British satisfy 2 out of 3 non-human choices, while French satisfies only humans. I think that's why they decided upon english/american voices. That and marketability.

Accents do depend on area as well. The Dalish we have for example could reasonably be a new comer to the tribe, or even a former Dalish elf.

The marketability thing is weird to me. Using english/american, to me sounds like everything else out there, and also locks us into similar cultural perspectives as the last two games. That's just limiting to me. If I were making that decision, I'd want to completely stand out. There's no other recent protag PC with a french accent and derivative perspective in an english language game out there, at least until Assassin's Creed 5. DA:I could have established a new variable perspective direction for DA and had another unique feature to boast there.
I'm glad we at least have some accent choice though, and I'm sure all the VAs will do a great job. And thank god we got race selection back at a bare minimum. I don't see why they shouldn't have Orlesian voice options over Fereldan, though, and origins to fit. It's a lost oppurtunity to me, those specific areas.
edit: Personally, it's already going to effect my playthroughs. Unless weapons are locked 2 per class like DA2, I'll probably skip the warrior class altogether this time. I was pretty amped to play a chevalier type human warrior as one of my six. But I really don't want to play the same ol' Fereldan human again. I've intended to play every race and class I can fit into 6 PTs, but it's a lot less appealing to play so similar a perspective, right down to spec choice, for three straight games. The more variety and really unique roleplay options, the better. Fereldan guy is getting old, when there's so much else we could do with it, especially if the origin stories aren't as robust. I'm very relieved we ended up with enough other broad options.

Orlisian City Elves have French accents (See Anora's chamber maid.) So if they had city elves then it would be for both humans & ElvesWe are all forgetting the non-human races. Wasn't it mentioned somewhere that BW is toying with making the voices more adjustable by a process similar to audio-editing? That could give much more variations than what we have (and which is extremely generous as it is, given they had to record each line 4 times)

Yeah, considering how the past two DA novels were Orlesian related and Orlais has a very prominent role in this game, it would have just made sense for the Inquisitor to be from Orlais but yet again for the 3rd damn time, the main character is from Fereldan.

Orlais has always been depicted as very exotic and weird. The inq is probably supposed to be an outsider.
