I would just like to add that men can have long hair too.
I have long hair in real life, and i would certainly like to see long hair for men in DA:I.

What is difficult? To animate it? To live with it? To go to war with it? Do you see what the gymnastic girls in the Olympics do with their hair? It's pulled back in a tight bun or small pony, slathered with product (glitter optional!), and tamed with barrettes. Not a single strand goes awry because it can't during competition.
Poor Sera.
She looks worse than Mark Hamill in the first Star Wars.
The only problem I have with hair in all the dragon age games is the facial hair. I can't get a nicely trimmed beard. It's always a stubble that's too thin, or a beard that's way too thick that it looks ridiculous.
I can live with the previous hairstyles they gave us in the previous games, but I hope there are new hairstyles for this game. I don't care if some hairstyle doesn't exist in the medieval timeline. I want my Inquisitor to look beautiful. Men can also have long hair.

Don't worry, I'm sure they won't taunt you by having someone in the party with excellently trimmed facial hair you yourself can never achieve. I can't think of any sexy mustachiod mages that might rub their wonderful facial hair in your stubbled face.
(I get jealous when companions can have things we can't, if that's not obvious)

What, this is not good enough for you?

I'm sure Dorian would be jealous. ![]()
On the second point, there are a lot of warrior cultures that venerated or required long hair. If it were such a disadvantage in real combat, that wouldn't be the case. In a wrestling match where there are rules and restrictions, I'd agree with you. It's not my experience in a real fight, though.
Probably the most famous long-haired warrior culture was the Spartans. They took great pride in their long hair and ritually combed it before battle. Supposedly Lycurgus once said that, "Long hair makes a handsome Spartan more beautiful, and an ugly Spartan more fearsome." Contrary to their depiction in the movie 300, the Spartans would have looked more like this:

But she looked good with long hair in the concept art. Also, her face looks good but they choose an ugly hairstyle for her, that's what's wrong.
See, that's what I'm saying. Looking "good" isn't the point. Looking "right" for the character is. This blog entry by one of Bioware's artists says it quite well. So yeah, the hairstyle is rough and sort of ugly. But that's not something wrong with the design. I think that's part of what makes it good. Characters don't exist as and shouldn't always be designed to have the prettiest possible face, with an assemblage of all the features that the artist (or in some fans' opinions, the fan's
) find the most attractive. That's lazy design. And besides, people's ideals of beauty vary, so you'd never satisfy everyone anyway. In design, ugly (in terms of personal beauty) isn't wrong; uninteresting and uninformative is.
As someone who has really long hair straight hair, it is really easy to manage and can be realistic when fighting (if play fighting with siblings is any indication) Tie it up in a top pony tail and your good to go, or if your daring go for a braid. And I can't count how many times I've accidentally whipped someone with it, and I've been told it hurts. (potential weapon right there)
The only issue I see for not using long hair in videogames in general is because it is either hard to animate or causes drastic clipping issues (which personally I've never been bothered by, who needs realism when welding magic...right?)
I believe I posted in this thread that I've been in the military and seen women with very long hair. When in uniform they had to have their hair up so it doesn't touch the collar, it doesn't touch their ears and they have no loose strands. A few of them told me it wasn't hard for them to keep their hair up.
I'm curious, will those who want long hair be happy if there's long hair options but they're up? High ponytails, buns, braids that are then put in a bun?
I would be, for the most part. Part of the problem is that in both games we've only even had one hairstyle that even implies long hair, even though tightly done updos don't really need to be animated even as much as a bob should.
I think having at least one loose style and a few implied-long-hair styles would satisfy the largest number of people, tho. A lot of people want the hair cape.

I just want to have good hair. Long, short. For instance, I LOVED pre-made F!Hawke's short pixie. So adorable. But I couldn't find any more adorable hair. Only the same hair options that we had in DAO.
If some kid sitting at home with a modding tool can make fifteen gorgeous hairstyles both long and short, I'm pretty sure the developers could too. '
Lara Croft had awesome hair that was all over the place and I never had issues with it clipping or being annoying to me as a player once.
The Sims have about 20348230429384203948234 hairstyles, not to mention some gorgeous up-dos, braids, and short hair options that wouldn't feel out of place in this world. Especially the modded ones.

This is pretty much where I stand on this too.
Vivienne hair is worse because they gave her a buzz. Yes she has a hat but why give her a buzz, when you can give some beautiful hair?! Even some short hair is better than a buzz!

Looking good and looking right to me is the one and the same. Also, an LI should look pretty, yes personality matters more but attractiveness is a big portion to it. I still don't know why the shorten her hair.
I would like to more beards. Braided, long, goatee, stubble, mutton chops and others.. Without messing the cheeks. The inquisitor can have a beard yet able to customize lips, cheeks and nose.
