It's one of the reasons you see so many newbs play AIU without anything but a shotgun.  Also remember one guy saying "All I have and get is freaking shotguns! I hate Shotguns!" Very much reminding me of being in the same situation, with the Wraith being one, if not my first UR, and one to always be at the top during UR weapon leveling. Not to mention always getting shotguns too.

 

Was going post this topic awhile back, but got reminded again when someone pointed out the Talon Pistol is my most used, which was kinda shocking cause I don't quite get it yet? Nor am I a fan of weapons that can't do long enough range. Hence why I don't love shotguns that much (except Claymore, cause it's really a Krogan Sniper Rifle ).

 

But even with the accuracy of Pistols, I don't like Pistols, except for the Eagle, cause that's really a mini Harrier as megabeast once put it.

 

 

 

So yeah, Pistols is probably my least fave quickly followed by Shotguns. Thought I'm not always in the mood for sniping either (Maybe if there were more sniping infiltrators instead of the rejects we got for that class. Luckily I don't mind using the fun Kishock on a non-Inf class).

SMGs and to a lesser extent ARs

 

There just isn't enough variety in the choices for SMGs and most of the ARs are totally outclassed or just aren't fun to use. I don't mind using an inferior weapon on Gold... but it needs to be fun/interesting.

 

ARs should've been heavier with better damage. SMGs should've had more variety and have similar DPS capabilities to the Hurricane... but with NO AP MOD. SMGs should have super-high DPS but struggle against armor.

 

This is all my opinion of course, feel free to ignore it.

Probably assault rifles. I'm more a fan of weapons with low rate of fire but high damage per bullet. Shotguns is by far my favorite category of guns.

 

However, sniper rifles is my least used category of weapons, since I use them only on infiltrators.

SMGs. I've used lots of pistols, shotguns, ARs and sniper rifles and found a kit for all of them. In the SMG category, it's the choice between an OP SMG, a good SMG and an absolutely bad SMG. Not much variety and it's all uneven.

Anybody hating shotguns should try the Piranha. There's something deeply satisfying in guttering someone with 7 quick straight shots

Well, the Piranha used to hold 8 shots, but during one of the balance updates, they changed it to 6. If you're on a laggy host, it's possible to get an extra shot or two out of it before reloading.

Sorry, 7 with Devastator Mode on. Didn't realized it until I checked, lol (only used it with the Destroyer).

 

I'd have loved to use it when it could hold 8-9 shots...although I guess it'd make it a bit overpowered.

It's hard to see how anyone could like any of the weapons in ME3, one would think that a few centuries from now there would be some decent weapons, instead of ones that are mostly inferior to 20th century military equipment. Battlefield and CoD have far better weapons, and they are set in the present and previous centuries.

 

But the reason for new players not liking ME3 shotguns is quite simple. They are the hardest weapons to use well in the game, with slow rates of fire, and also the weight slows down power use, and new players find it hard to get the right rhythm that experienced players have developed. Most start out using ARs and SMGs because those are good in other shooting games they might have played, and they only switch to other weapon classes when they learn that most of the ARs and SMGs are awful.

Use all weapons categories equally -- I pick what characters/weapons I'll use based on which amps.  Have a fave in each category.

 

That said, I rarely get weapon kill medals with SMGs, perhaps because I use them with casters?

That happens to me while playing with Adepts/Vanguards, but I get quite a lot of them with the Paladin. With him I mix more powers and SMG use.
