You find a stack of books that appear to be journals. Each one is bound in a unique way, reflecting the personalities of the mages who bound them. You find a journal bound in black leather. The front page says, "The researches of Wilhelm, master mage of Redcliffe. Let he who absconds with this book have his eyes taken by crows."
The journal text (what would have gone into the Codex) is
Wilhelm's journal is filled with information about research and experiments he has conducted, as well as information about the people in Redcliffe. The part that stands out to you, however, is the section he entitiled, "Golem Research."
"The dwarves are lying to me."
"I sent them a missive months ago, offering a trade for one of their precious gems: the ones they set in the foreheads of their golems. As expected, their shaper of memories declined my request, claiming that they had no such gems to spare. I know better: If there's one thing dwarves have, it's gems."
"Fortunately, I have been leaning on a dealer of... curiosities... who has procured an actual golem. It's possible he will be reluctant to sell the creature, but I will convince him to give up the beast one way or another."
"With a golem in my possession, I can test my theory. If I am right, and removing the gem does indeed revive the ancient creature's memories, then I may well become the greatest source of ancient-world information in Ferelden."
"And as a welcome side-effect, I will have gained a golem servant of my own, something that will surely only help me in my efforts to keep the backward residents of Redcliffe in line."
