Being friends with Anders didn't seem that hard to me. (At least until The Last Straw). He really awkwardly flirted me once. I awkwardly said no. That was it. Although, that could be because I never got the scene late in the game where he complains about your love interest. He objects to you being Fenris or Merrill, and given that my first two Hawke's romances where "nobody" and "Isabella" respectively he didn't seem to care about telling me he disproved.
Is Anders turn into romance a bit too easily for male Hawke?
