I just hate the whole concept of it. Whether it favours me or not, there is most likely more people who have to wait for something that should be available to all at the same time. Its not going to really get people to even buy the Xbox one

Same here. This is not going to make me go buy an XBox One or downgrade my PS4 Deluxe Edition pre-order down to an XBox 360 one.

But XBox has been doing this for years now. Very annoying to me, since even though I have several gaming systems (one of which is an XBox 360), PS3 (and now PS4) are my "primary" systems. Anything cross-platform is bought on those units as I like the controls the best.

What's really annoying is I can already see what's going to happen: the DLC gets released on XBox and this forum gets flooded with people who either intentionally troll or unintentionally/ignorantly post a bunch of DLC story spoilers all over the place while the PC and Playstation crowd has to sit and wait.

Thinking I may have to give myself a forum ban period once timed-exclusive DLC starts dropping. And that's a real shame. :(

Hopefully the devs open a sub forum for spoilers and crack down on people trolling. It might be difficult if the DLCs add a lot of new lore, but lore and metaphysics hasn't been a primary focus of Dragon Age in the past.

I am disappointed... I've been through this with Skyrim exclusive DLC and I hated it. And I don't love Elder Scrolls games nowhere near as much as I love DA. Hopefully not story DLC.. It would be nice to let us know at least which kind of content they plan for exclusive

*snip*

You're right.  I could have been less inflammatory.

I don't see this as an issue, because I don't see it as something that is going to or even needs to change.  There's no incentive for it to change.  EA will have received a non-trivial amount of money to make this happen.  That's money in the bank right now, cash in hand.  When you compare that to speculative 'how many people are going to buy this?' cash, or even 'how many people won't buy if we do this?' cash, four or more months in the future, it's not even something they need to think about.  They've recouped part of their investment before they even finished investing.  It's such an absurdly good deal on EA's part they would be incompetent not to take it.

Worst case for them, outside a decision not to purchase (or a used purchase, which amounts to the same thing), is that they get my cash 30/60/90 days later, which is something of a mixed bag.  On the downside, they don't get to add my buy to their initial ROI and first week 'we sold X copies!' marketing.  On the upside, my later purchase helps keep DA:I relevant on the charts and adds to their long term sales numbers.

Honestly, short of everyone not on an XB1 not buying this until the exclusivity runs out, there's little to no downside for EA in doing this.

All companies are doing this.  It's not limited to EA and therefore I find it hard to criticize them for it.  This seems more like an overall industry problem.

Yep PS3/4 getting early content with Destiny is another example of this, it happens throughout the industry unfortunately.

It's a natural offset of the fact there are two competing companies, it sucks that we can't all experience it at the same time as fans but the industry isn't going to change.

Also as I've said before I doubt the dlc will be that substantial, I doubt it's going to be Awakening size in scope. I'd imagine it'll be something more akin to a Warden's Keep type deal.

And yet another notch in the "reasons not to buy DA:I" list. This is starting to have to be one hell of an impressive game to justify buying it anymore :-(

Dammit, Bioware!

Hopefully, the other platforms have exclusive content to match.

Why wouldn't you buy DAI if it's a great game? It's not like the dlc is free on either console, at least we can scope it out and decide if we'd want to purchase it anyway. Everything I've seen of it looks promising, with the amount of time the team have had to develop I'm very optimistic.

Just use the market like they do, in my case they just lost 40€ of revenue from my DA:I copy plus a lot of money in the long run (no more collectors editions, no more books, no more comics, no more physical stuff).

If you really want to buy the game anyway then do so in third party sites instead of Origin or in second hand shelves instead of new ones, we will see even more of this bullshit every year unless they see a loss of revenue by doing so.

If the guys at Xbox are so stupid that can't figure out how to make a decent x86 gaming box they should get their **** together, trim the fat and get some decent engineers/managers instead of running around looking like fools while they bribe publishers with that Windows-Office money.

It always hurts me a little inside to get talk of any extra content before a games release...Makes you miss the good ol days where a game would come out and you'd be able to sink your teeth into it for a good amount of time before an Expantion pack was ever even mentioned.

I understand timed exclusive DLC from a business perspective. Bit miffed about it, but whatever we will get it eventually.

What annoys me more is that I will have to stay away from the forums for the time after it's release due to spoilers. :(

I laughed. Do tell what harm you are suffering.

You have to wait patiently while someone else gets served first? The horror.

Except this is more like ordering ahead of someone but getting your food second because you're paying with Visa and not Amex. A PC preorder will get the DLC later than an XB1 discount bin copy.

Yeah it's this sort of crap that makes me want to wait for the GOTY edition and buy it all for peanuts.

This is nothing new, as has been pointed out Destiny has timed dlc for PS4, as I'm sure did Watch Dogs and others. Even as an Xboner I know the dlc will be nothing major, these timed exclusive dlcs usually only last an hour at most. As long as they don't take away from the depth of the core experience I'm guessing they'll be window dressing. The fact is Microsoft has bags o' cash and they're going to use it, silly business practice but both will do it to defy parity and offer "incentive". All I know is the game looks stunning and I can't wait to play regardless of platform.

not all of its timed some of its staying on the ps4 and only the ps4 but you don't hear me complaining about it now do...... you well you shouldn't because im not doing it on this site.... yet "looks side to side''

As long as the delay on when the other platforms get the DLC over the Xboxes is no longer than a month, then I'm okay with it.  If Microsoft wants to be stupid and waste money in a poor attempt to get people to buy an Xbone, then let them.

It's a real shame. I'm just curious what kind of content it is and when it is released. If it's released the same day as the game is released I would really be disappointed.    :(
