Hopefully the UI gets refined, otherwise looks ok though hope the graphics look a little better once it hits beta but its not bad.
Take it that footage was xbox one?

I agree the UI seemed a little off, though that seems like something that could very well change in the months before release.

Mayhaps it's just 'cause I'm only getting around to playing ff13 the past few weeks, but the separate health bars for different bits reminds me of a lot of Final Fantasy boss fights where you have to destroy them segment by segment.
That does remind me of the Gui fights in FF13 <shudders>.

Nice mix of tactical and slashy. They improved on DA2 style in a way that makes it more attractive to me.

Ummmmm....
How come Bioware is releasing such terrible quality gameplay footage at such a critical time as this? Surely, they can manage to provide better quality footage?
Secondly, not too impressed with the UI at all. It looks horrible and completely out of touch with the game. And intrusive. This isn't Mass Effect or Star Wars, yo!
Gameplay shown here....meh
So tomorrow they are showing a 30 minute gameplay trailer, right?. I am wondering how we will see it....from a shakey handheld cam from the back of the room, or an actual quality video? Not holding my breath.
I had high hopes of seeing something great, but compared to what other game companies have shown from games that are still much further from being released, I'd say this is a pretty poor effort on Bioware's part.

The fight did not look that exciting either. It was chaotic but in the end it was a lot of the same.
It seems to me that there's actually more variety to fighting the dragon in this game than its predecessors. The longer a fight draws out, however, "more of the same" is kind of inevitable, since there's only so many different types of animation that they can work into it. Heck the only thing that really kept the archdemon interesting was the fact that it drew minions to you. The most interesting things about the sacred ashes and bone pit dragons are the loot.

It doesn't seem we'll see it today/tomorrow, since it seems a different type of demo will be shown. Unless there are different parts like the PAX demo.

There probably won`t be too many dragon fights in the game anyway. Dragons are rare in Thedas, no?

I agree that there won't be many, but I think there'll be at least 3-4 of them.

More variety as in you get to hack at its legs now too? I guess that's nice, though less nice if it just means more health bars you have to deplete.
Because that was what it looked to boil down to now. The dragon does look a little more mobile than its predecessors, with the way it moves one or two steps backward during the fight several times, but it still stays in relatively the same spot most of the time and then we have it flying over and spewing fire at our party while we wait for it to land again.

So video quality (which is irrelevant to the actual game) and the UI, threw you that far off?

Those are too many assumptions for such a short clip

This. I thought the prior one was cleaner and easier to read. This one looks messy.I prefer the UI used in August. This one looked a bit off.
As for the combat, I'm going to wait until later today to reserve judgement, I don't think it's fair to comment on such limited footage.

Still one more better than DA:O or DA2 dragon fights.

This is what Bioware chose to show me, so that is what I am basing my judgment on. I assume they would use the short time they have optimally, so put in as many of the dragon's attacks and actions as possible to give me an idea of what I would be dealing with. They have given me the idea I will be hacking at four legs and the dragon's body while the dragon breathes fire.
Look, it doesn't look bad or anything, it just simply seems not that special either. That impression might change if they show more gameplay. It's not set in stone as of now.

I'd agree with Dutchess that they might've have wanted to focused more on the fight. Though maybe they'll show it in the upcoming demo.

This trailer has nothing to do with the actual game (other than letting as know that dragon fights will be different). It's just a montage of different party members that attack the dragon's legs which shows more of the animations than the actual combat. Only thing I noticed was the fluidity of attacking while moving which is pretty good, although the movement animations were a bit silly, too much bouncing.
In my opinion Bioware makes the worst gameplay trailers than any other developer I know. They are either irrelevant, or show more of the limitations and bad design rather than the good parts. It'd be so nice to see a trailer showing the fluidity of tactics or the party synergy, things that define Dragon Age. Instead they show the attacking animations of the different party members and how cool is the evasive roll of the rogue Inquisitor. Like back when DA2 had the first gameplay montage trailers, with Isabela doing the Explosive Strike attack and sending enemies flying, and for some reason Bioware thought that this was cool when it looked like something fighting games in early 00's did.

Look, I am voicing my concern about getting very lacklustre footage from a game I am trying to keep my excitement for.
This is supposed to be a BIG time for DAI marketing and getting fans a real taste of what is to come. They are failing miserably so far in my opinion.
Last time I checked we were free to voice our opinions. Has something changed?

I dont get how that segment didnt show the combat mechanics, its one thing if you arent satisfied and want to see more but to say it showed nothing is just a comment out of spite rather than legitimate critiquing

This basically is just showing the targeting mechanism, looks like, and how you can quickly coordinate your team to attack different areas. It looks good. Targeting looks smooth. It looks like companions can hold a target after you set it, so you can switch off and actively do other things dynamically. Looks good. Dragons are obviously not rooted in place like before. Everything's more dynamic. It's good. They're obviously not showing how a battle evolves over time now, flying etc. It's just a basic fundamental mechanic demo, and it's all good.
"Dodge" talents are timer abilities like anything else, so set your tactics and they'll act like you program them to. Which is great imo. I love that about DA..
