I have the suspicion that the more casual players that don't bother to peruse the menu options are unlikely to have repeat playthroughs, assuming that they actually completed the campaign in the first place.

And for these people marketing should be adjusted so they play Jane Shepard instead of John?

I honestly do not see the point of this.

I hope with "moving forward" Casey Hudson really means "lets forget about this crappy Mass Effect trilogy we have now, we're going to reboot the series and make a new, better ME trilogy".

I'm not going to play any Mass Effect games when ME2 and ME3 are still canon. If they retcon or reboot the entire series I might be interested in trying another Mass Effect game again.

 OMG someone who understands!!

I can believe that some people who only played ME1 wouldn't know that you could play as a woman, but for ME2 and ME3? Hell no.

The only way someone wouldn't notice is if they were illiterate, it's impossible otherwise.

Thanks to Frostbite 3 we will hopefully be getting plenty of that in the new game.

Nevermind how "cool" biotics looked and the fact that it could destroy some of the environment in combat... That was never added in the end :(

Actually we had destroyable enviroment in mass effect 1 when shepard and liara was fighting against liara`s mother. Those boxes near entrance was flying and stuff.

But reason why they didnt interact much in enviroment was that consoles didnt have enough juice to run it smoothly. There are many places where you clearly see that they have done things certain way to reduce computing power requirement like static people in afterlife and other dance clubs.

Also other reason might been that it didnt add anything to the gameplay so they didnt waste resources into it.

Many things chance during development, so it is not uncommon that things chance when they release the game. Some things might have looked good on paper but when developing they might realise that it isnt so good thing after all.

I never said that. In any case, it doesn't really matter, because this would only really apply to ME1. As for marketing, BioWare's already made adjustments anyway.

Was that hard for them to put a 'Jane Shepard' under dude? I don't understand why they didn't do that.

Femshep is amazing. Hale is an awesome VA. Right now I'm playing ME2 (probably for like the 20th time, lol. amazing game) with femshep, widow infiltrator. Hale is awesome.

FemShep FTW!!!

Agree with hale voice acting,  exept me 2 was actually garbage. And it is even better when you compare to male shepard voice acting...its like he`s reading from the paper, instead of using emotions in voice. Well both are reading, but difference between good voice acting and bad, is that good VA doesnt sound like reading from paper and bad does.

I'm surprised to see N7 featured so prominently in the reveal. For a game that claims to be leaving Shepard behind, it's weird that they would go with something that is so heavily associated with him/her.

I know that Shep isn't the only N7, but it's not like the series has let us glimpse any others. Heck, Hackett even dismisses the N7s in MP via email once you promote them. He says they're not "real" N7, but lets them use the name because they are effective against the reapers.

People who wanted to play a person with two X chromosomes only had to press 'Enter new ID' and she would've been right there. Anyone who wanted to would have pressed that button anyway.

Also, they did this in ME2 and ME3.

Yes, but why not 'Jane Shepard' under dude in ME1?

Almost implied she isn't that important.

And believe it or not, some people didn't even know what the new ID would do.

Would it be bad if they informed people that you can play as Jane Shepard?

For some reason, I actually DO believe them when they say "no Shepard in ME4."

Maybe that just makes me naive, since I've been a lurker here long enough to know that things pan out differently than BioWare's comments can indicate.

But this one just strikes me as an odd decision, and not misdirection.

I'd be happy to be wrong, of course.

Not a clue.

No it wouldn't be.

And they never pressed it to find out.

Seriously, these people should not be accomodated, ever, in anything. Let nature run it's course.

These people not only didn't know you could play as a Femshep, they also didn't know:

-that they could pick a class. They always played as Shepard the Soldier

-that they could pick a pre-service history. They all played as Earthborn Shepard

-that they could pick a psychological profile. They all played Sole Survivor Shepard.

Should all this be marketed? Or should we just accept that some people are just.. ugh.

Would it be bad if they informed people that you can play as Jane Shepard?

No.

I've just had enough of all the bullshit concerning FemShep: that people didn't play her because they didn't know it was possible and because she wasn't marketed. What a load of stinking bull.

Because it makes complete sense to start with a new protagonist and to ditch Shepard's baggage, even if they do decide to canonize Destroy.

Oh, I believe them too.

Given how determined they were to make "The Shepard" burn for the galaxy's sins.

Yes, she wasn't marketed enough for people to care. She was literally nonexistent. And if you don't believe that's the case, well then, we will just have to agree to disagree.

And hopefully, as i said many times, the next ME will focus on female protagonist and treat her equally.

Yeah. But that's why it strikes me as very odd that the first thing we see is another dude wearing N7 armor.

I guess BioWare sees N7 as a part of the Mass Effect brand, so it's something, to them, that says "this is Mass Effect."

To me, it strikes me as confused, even though I realize it might not even be a significant piece of the finished game.

Trailer was not bad it is better than nothing. Not many information's but it won't be a prequel that is a great news. That N7 logo and krogan on Tuchanka gives me hope. Could it be a sequel with Shepard ?
First screen It could be a wreckage of Normandy SR2 that has been already said by other users. Second screen maybe bridge/galaxy map on SR3 Third screen Shepard on Frostbite 3 ? I know N7 logo doesn't mean Shepard but when I see this logo my first thought are always associated with Shepard.

What's funny is that they imply that people are too dimwitted and have vision issues to see and select the "female" option in the character creation.

Personally I wouldn't mind having the option to play Shepard should the save I've imported allow that interpretation.

Nobody said we get to play some sort of N7 Shepard2 character, that could also be a squadmate.

From my perspective, "N7" has taken on a life of its own as a way of expressing collective fandom for the series, more than it represents Shepard directly since there are so many different versions of Shepard. Also, the N7 moniker has taken on even more of a different meaning following ME3's MP.   It's become about collective forces, not reverence for one man or woman.

Ya, I think that's how BioWare wants us to take it for sure.

I'm just not certain that many people associate N7 with anything beyond Shepard and that's why I'm wondering if it isn't an odd/poor choice for a first impression. I envision people getting their hopes up only to have them dashed.

But maybe...
