I'm surprised to see N7 featured so prominently in the reveal. For a game that claims to be leaving Shepard behind, it's weird that they would go with something that is so heavily associated with him/her.

I know that Shep isn't the only N7, but it's not like the series has let us glimpse any others. Heck, Hackett even dismisses the N7s in MP via email once you promote them. He says they're not "real" N7, but lets them use the name because they are effective against the reapers.

You can have completely different characters that belong to the same organization. The Star Trek series is a good example of this. Captains Kirk, Picard, and Janeway are all very different from one another with the exception of being Starfleet Captains. I think it would be a mistake to assume that the next game's protagonist would be Shepard 2.0 just be they both are N7s.

ME3's multiplayer also opens up some potentially interesting options in regards to the player being an N7. During the Reaper War the N program was expanded to also include alien races, and the Alliance fielded multi-species special operations teams. It is possible that the next game could have multiple playable species even if the protagonist is an N7. And if the rumors about that Pax panel were true (got salt?), Bioware may have been exploring the possibility of having multiple playable species.

Yes, she wasn't marketed enough for people to care. She was literally nonexistent. And if you don't believe that's the case, well then, we will just have to agree to disagree.

And hopefully, as i said many times, the next ME will focus on female protagonist and treat her equally.

I have absolutely no problems with saying FemShep didn't get the proper exposure or whatever. I have problems with the conclusions you draw from this, like FemShep not being picked because they didn't market her.

Or even worse, that people didn't know they could make a FemShep because they didn't market her. That's basically implying these people are too stupid to read or press buttons. (not even touching the comment about them not knowing what 'Enter new ID' would do)

I agree with this.

In games where players have the option of choosing either a male or a female character, the male version is nearly always chosen more often. I don't think it has anything to do with marketing.

Lol why are people so stuck on the idea of ME4 being about Shepard. Hasn't it been confirmed in a thousand different articles that Shepard's story is over. So what if it's N7. N7 is to ME as Starfleet is to Star Trek or the Jedi order to Star Wars.

Though I wonder if they'll make the protagonist a Spectre again? I always felt that that the Spectre status was basically a way to let us play Shepard any way we want without consequences, so I wonder if they'll find that to be necessary again in ME4. If so they'll have to execute it in a way that isn't remotely reminiscent of the way Shep became Spectre.

Looking at the helmeted person again I wonder why everyone is jumping to the conclusion it looks like a  male shep, it looks like an ambiguous gender to me, and the helmet seems like a large bubble type rather than the tighter fitting ones from before.

Hey, all I pointed out was that it conveniently obscures if Synthesis took place or not ;)

If they did decide that it was going to be Shepard again, the very first thing he/she should say at the very start of the game is "Again? I'm getting too old for this sh*t."

Its artwork. concept art.

I think peeps are blowing the pic way out of proportion.

To be honest, seeing a N7 in concept means they will have familiar lore in ME4... which will be challenging giving the disparity of ME3's endings.

My common sense says ~ People will be upset no matter what ME4 is because that's human nature. There's NOTHING Bioware can do to prevent some player disgruntlement ~

I thought "Move forward" could mean:

1) direct sequel

2) Just don't do a prequel; e.g., don't do "first contact war"

"Move forward" needs to be tempered by, "go somewhere new", too.

The whole "fresh, but familiar" angle.

As long Biower got fanboys who will buy the game. Biower don't care much about people opinions.

Otherwise... For me ME is ended with ME3.

[cue BioWare and EA intro graphic]

The opening scene has the clone fall from the Normandy's cargo ramp, and he/she flies through a window and lands on an asari's rather expensive shifty looking cow leather couch. After coming to, the clone keeps the asari prisoner and barricades him/herself in the apartment. As stockholm syndrome sets in, they develop a creepy relationship, until suddenly the Citadel is captured by the reapers. Blah blah blah yakety shmakety the clone helps random NPC's and becomes a hero while the rebuilding process begins after the real Shepard synthesizes/controls/destroys the reapers. Something something tricking Bailey into changing the clone's ID something something suddenly legit soldier. Adventure begins.

He lets them use the name because it's what the Alliance military are unofficially calling the MP characters, and as long as it stayed "unofficial" and didn't cause issues on the field they would retain the title.

That's pretty much exactly all that was meant in that email.

Which essentially translates to: As long as they have an audience, which it's obvious they do, they'll continue to make games.

I'm honestly thinking that N7 will be sort of the new Specters, or something like it. The best of the best in the galaxy, regardless of species, will be allowed to enlist.

It is possible that Bioware could write the Spectres out of the universe.

If the N teams are carried over as multispecies there is less need for the Spectres. They could have the N teams be given the same legal authority as the Spectres, answering to the Council, and filling a similar role in the lore.

Regarding the prequel vs sequel discussion; I think the best way to realistically and sensibly keep the species we know from the previous Mass Effect games while still introducing new places, characters and stories is to set the game in a different galaxy in the same time period. I think this is what they've done, which explains why N7 still exists. This would also remove the need to canonize the different ME3 endings.

I mean, what would have happened to N7 after ME3? I don't remember them getting dissolved.

If they are going to bring back exploration, inventory and loots then i'm sold.

On the story level i'm happy if it's a sequel and we are done with the reapers and freaking cerberus because quite frankly i'm fed up with them...new enemies please....
