Agree with you there. I can understand the disappointment and the annoyance. I just don't understand the venom that is being spit at Microsoft alone for this when Sony does it as well. The level of anger is puzzling to me.

Its only been directed at Microsoft here because it's affecting a bioware multiplatform game and the dragon age fans (if Sony had done it for inquisition the response would be the same). It's an awful practice regardless of who does it they are all guilty of it, these companies are wasting money not to create content but to actively withhold and artificially delay it. As a customer regardless of your platform there is no benifit what's so ever. There is also the worry that if it is considered a "success" it will continue on past the first dlc to an expansion or the mass effect series for example .

As console producers it makes perfect sense to me that both Microsoft and Sony try to get as many exclusive deals as possible as it gives more incentive towards their specific console.

From the perspective of EA/Bioware in choosing to go the route of exclusive content (be it timed or not), I see that as a fairly simple business case: Timed exclusive content for the XBox One has probably given them X amount of incentive from Microsoft, however the downside is that they may alienate some customers owning other platform potentially lowering the sales of future DLC and collectors editions. This negative effect can be estimated in loss of revenue and set up against the immediate revenue from Microsoft, and thus in the end making it a simple business decision. The difficult part is making the estimate of the human impact meaning peoples negative reaction to the news as we've seen on these boards. The odd thing is that Bioware hasn't been specific about the content, time, or price of the exclusive since being open about that information could minimize the potential negative effect on revenue.

Whether the above is how EA/Bioware has made their decision on timed exclusive I have no clue, I am making the guess based on my own experinces working within business tranformation where we have often performed cost reduction effects knowing it would hurt customer satisfaction, however the immediate positive financial effect to cashflow was more important than longterm customer loyalty leading to loss of revenue. I applaud Bioware for being open about the fact that exclusive content exists, but I do not understand the secrecy about the details of it (maybe they themselves haven't even determined that yet?).

I didn't say it was permanently exclusive, just that it was. maybe if you read posts a bit better you may have got this point. It doesnt matter whether its timed or not the fact is it shouldnt be done. It wasnt done on the last two why are they starting now?

How is this any worse than your typical console exclusive, like Halo or Uncharted. I'm still waiting on a response to this from someone.

I was reading http://www.totalxbox...beating-skyrim/ which another user posted, could it be possible the "exlcusive content" is nothing more than voice commands/social interaction an such? things microsoft themselves are promoting for xbone an are just perhaps getting developers to build into there games?

If that were the case, it wouldn't be "First on Xbox One", as the other versions wouldn't be getting those things at all.

It's DLC that will eventually arrive on all platforms. It will just arrive on Xbox One first.

Because those will never ever appear on the other system. Two things about this.

1. It's a multi-plat game people believe all platforms should get equal treatment.

2. It was announced long after DA:I went up for pre-order.

Until we know just what it is, people are going to speculate.

On point 2, so what?
Pre ordering a game doesn't mean you've brought it merely that you have reserved a copy you plan on buying. If this changes those plans just cancel your pre order.

Because they have always been exclusive to those consoles since they were made. Sony doesnt make people bid for the DLC rights to Infamous. Nintendo doesnt allow people to make bids for Mario.

Something that is not console exclusive shouldnt be allowed to be so. They didnt do it with origins or DA2 why are they doing it now? Microsoft somehow think that people wont realise what they are doing amounts to nothing more than a console sale boost?

At the end of the day the action is not what makes me so angry its the fact that these companies do underhanded things and then tell us they are all about the customer and gamers are their passion. If I was their passion they wouldn't be treating me with such contempt.

I don't remember timed DLC to Sony for Assassin's Creed 1, but it was there for later games (I think it started with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood).

As far as your comments about "they are all about the customers", look at Sony's comments especially from E3 2013 when they went out of their way to make jabs at Microsoft about their plans for the Xbox One. All companies are just as bad as one another. I have no problem if you want to argue this practice is bad and you don't want to see it from anyone, but your posts are making it sound like EA and Microsoft are the worst offenders and I disagree with that logic.

You can disagree with that logic all you want that doesnt make it any less true. When have Sony ever tried to stop the second hand games market? When have Sony ever had sales that low they had to resort to this kind of tactic? Why are EA still holding half the rights to the next Alpha Centauri game by owning one of the companies that made it even though they dont plan on making another version of the game? When have Sony ever said their consoles have to be online 24/7?

It's not the fact that this is timed DLC this isnt the issue. It's the company thats doing it and the overall timing/reason of the deal. If microsoft want to make a 19th century ass out of themselves for the third time I'm all for it just dont do it with the titles I like.

Really...what does it matter?  Exclusive DLC in Bioware games have never been earth shattering, anyway.  Couple different weapons or pieces of armor.

I think one of the factors that make this a big deal is the fact that this is specifically story content DLC. If the deal was for one console to get timed exclusive access to a particular mount, or a distinctive helmet, or a weapon with a particular particle effect, I really wouldn't care. This, however, is story content which might provide context to the main story of the game or to the personality of a companion, and which might be spoiled for everyone else by the time the x-boxlings have had their period of exclusivity to play and comment.

Pretty much every game being released this year has a timed exclusive or even exclusive exclusive DLC deal. Your platform warring is just totally incorrect.

Has it been confirmed that it's story related? I didn't think anything official statement had been released about what the content of the dlc will be, nor how many or how long the wait would be.

Also, you always get the chance of content being spoiled, whether it's exclusive or not. Especially considering how Sony doesn't release their games/dlc until a few days after Microsoft does.

As I said, I can understand the frustration, but some people are being ridiculous in their anger. A business is still a business, whether fans are their number one priority or not. If people own multiple consoles, to keep up with sales, there has to be some exclusiveness. Sony and Microsoft know this, and they both implement it. Fair or not, it makes sense from a business perspective. They win some, they lose some. It's unfortunate that sometimes the fans get caught in the middle of rival companies, but it is a practice I don't see changing in the foreseeable future, especially as more and more games are going cross-platform and people owning multiple consoles.

Some places take a non refundable deposit so moving the goal posts like this is unfair. If this was made clear when the game was put up for sale it would not be a problem.

I would rather have timed DLC exclusives then platform exclusives.

The Batman: Knightfall DLC still is PS3 exclusive for Arkham Origins.

A good example. I have played and enjoyed the 1st two Arkham games, but those are games I buy from Steam when the complete version with all the additional content is sold under one SKU for about $20 US.

There is a finite amount of bullcrap--including platform preferential treatment--that BioWare can get away with before their games go into that same category. They aren't there yet, not by a long shot, but if I look really hard I think I can see there from here.

Oh boohoo. It's timed DLC. It's not DLC cut out entirely just so that a single console can have it.

Grow up.

Seems like EA/Bioware don't want my money. Because of this very reason (timed exclusives) I won't preorder DA: Inquisition on PC. I'll maybe buy it on a sale later.

If they don't respect me as their customer I don't see a reason to buy their product for the full price. If they give me a finger I spend my money elsewhere. Simple.

Im guessing system specs wont be revealed alan by anychance?

Something like this:

  • Dual core CPU (Intel Core i5 or AMD “Bulldozer”).
  • At least 4 GB main system memory
  • Graphics card with at least 512 MB of VRAM and support for DirectX 10
  • 30+ GB of harddrive space
  • Windows Vista 64-bit

BTW these kind of shenanigans is why you don't preorder games.

I find it strange how the narrative has shifted from "there is day one DLC it must be cut content and they are ripping us off" to " I cant get Day one DLC they don't love ME anymore"

Everything I am getting from these interviews, the videos and everything else the focus is making a amazing game and as someone that hasn't bought a BioWare game since ME 2 (DA2 was gifted to me and ME3 a friend told me it was a Birthday present) I am tempted to pick it up.

When did the focus go from a great game to all this ancillary bs?

I don't know about anyone else but I want a great game and I want that game to be the focus.

Butthurt, Entitlement, Anger all leads to the dark side.
