Xbox timed exclusive DLC makes me sad

Because those will never ever appear on the other system. Two things about this.

1. It's a multi-plat game people believe all platforms should get equal treatment.

2. It was announced long after DA:I went up for pre-order.

Until we know just what it is, people are going to speculate.

1) Are we all getting equal graphics? Equal controllers? Equal frame rates? Equal access to mods? As a console gamer, I don't believe that's the case.

As I said, this argument is non-sensical. You're comfortable with the prospect of never getting access to certain games (Bloodborne, Halo 5, etc, depending on platform) but the prospect of a timed exclusive has magically crossed the line? Hell, you have to go a month without playing a dlc. That's far longer than the time difference between some game releases on console vs.  PC.

2) Not all details about a game are revealed when pre-ordering. There's always the possibilty of learning some fact that might dissuade you from making a purchase.

Someone else addressed this, but just cancel the preorder. You still have, what, 4 months until release? I'd say that's a more than reasonable amount of time for a player to find out that a game isn't up their alley.

Some places take a non refundable deposit so moving the goal posts like this is unfair. If this was made clear when the game was put up for sale it would not be a problem.

That makes no sense to cancel the pre-order because of when a DLC will arrive.  What you're purchasing when you buy the game is the game.  Maybe you might have an argument if the initial offer included X DLC will be available on this date and suddenly it's not available on that date.  However, nowhere in the information provided to date on DAI does it show when/if a DLC will be released.  If suddenly Bioware were to announce that they were never going to do a DLC for the game, would you still cancel it?

Having said that - I'll admit, I do have to wonder if that was the brightest idea by EA to make this agreement.  I was recently looking over David Gaider's tumblr and came across a discussion on DLCs which linked a discussion on DLCs in general from a game developer. "This is why about 90% of DLC sales for most games are made within the first month of launch. It’s the best time for it, when the game is still fresh in players’ minds and they want to play more of it, before the next big thing hits the shelves." http://askagamedev.t...e-complete-game

Edit:  I just wanted to add for those that have been defending the Witcher 3, isn't that the same game that isn't even releasing on the old consoles in a couple months, meaning people have to purchase the new consoles or have a PC to play the game?

Why are you here if you dont care? The adults are talking now be quiet I'm sure there is a gay romance forum somewhere that needs your attention.

You know how I know you are not an adult?

Also props for the hypocrisy of Voltaire in the signature and then trying to shut someone down.

Butthurt, Entitlement, Anger all leads to the dark side.

All i really read since E3 is childish entitlement from every reveal on these boards an the game aint even out

I disagree. I see a lot more excited over the game (I don't know the last time BioWare has won so many awards based on fan voting for E3) then the same people looking for a reason to moan because they are part of EA.

And lets get some thing straight first I have been on BioWares boards for 14 years at least. Been called every nasty name you can imagine. The funny thing is those people calling me those names bragged about pre-ordering DA2 on PC before the price jumped or showed up on day one with it registered and I am happy someone gave me the game.

If I was to label DA2 it was not to the standard I expected from BioWare. I still liked the game. Terribly flawed but I have seen far worse from AAA developers/

He does point out that some places wont let you but unless that's a cash transaction I know I can cancel what I want thru my cards.

But I don't really see it mattering. BioWare put out the pre-orders long before E3 and (I only just learned Darrah had said no day on companions in the twitter thread) long ago. Those people that already pre-ordered did it because they wanted it for what ever reason.

This bs (that is what it is) about "oh well DLC time exclusive for one platform would make me cancel my pre-order except I did it from this place that wont let me" is a joke.

There had been no talk (other then no companion and I didn't even find that out till the past few days and I am around here a lot) about dlc. So those that already made pre-orders did it based on the game, what they have been shown or whatever. They could not base that decision on unknown information and if they are now trying to renege they should be a little more tight with their money.

Agreed.

Granted, it does suck that you can't get your full pre-order back, but (I would hope) that information is made to the customer in advance and that they have the foresight to recognize that there might be a chance of their removing the pre-order.

For me, it does go back to that earlier point that devs don't give you every detail immediately about a game. The whole point of pre-ordering is that you don't have access to all relevant information about a game and that there is always a chance that developers might announce a decision you may dislike (Ex: no race selection, voiced protagonist, whatever).

Well since this is 2014, we have to use other methods of telling people they are an idiot don't we?

Also, there are a lot of places you can pre-order that does refunds or doesn't take any deposit at all. It isn't up to Bioware to make consumer choices. To cancel a pre-order is the absolute right of the consumer, it would be smart to shop around and find out pre-order policy before pre-ordering any game.

So you think I'm an idiot because I think you should grow up and not whine about timed content?

Oh noes. Someone on the Internet doesn't like me!

Surely your lexicon is extensive enough that you can figure out ways to take part in debates and discussions without having to insult anyone who doesn't agree with you, or the restraint to ignore someone if they insult you.

A lame, anti-consumer practice, that instead of giving out new content for everyone, stalls it for most.

I'm not surprised that Garbage1 Xbox1 manufacturers are the ones that went through with this, since Lamestation4 Playstation4 is doing better at this point.

And of course, i'm not suprised that EA said yes. People are still going to buy the DLCs because they can't say no, and they got a nice headstart payment from Microsoft.

It's all about the $$ gamers.

Microsoft isn't the only company that does this. Sony does it as well.

Also, it shouldn't be surprising. If Sony is selling better than Microsoft, logic lends to the belief that Microsoft will implement incentives to get people to buy games for Xbox. Even if Microsoft were doing better, it would still make sense they'd want to stay on top.

I hate exclusive content period, all platforms should get the same equal amount of content available. Then again Microsoft is notorious for doing this sort of thing.

It's not exclusive content.

It is timed exclusivity meaning that it will release earlier on the Xbox platforms than it will Sony or PC. You still get the content, you just get it later.

Avoid public spaces for that month then because the kiddy X-tards will be spoiling the DLC storylines. They did it with Skyrim and yes, Bioware has said DLC would mostly be Story based ones as its one of the pillars. Enjoy your Timed Exclusive DLC and the constant avoiding of spoilers!

I find it strange how the narrative has shifted from "there is day one DLC it must be cut content and they are ripping us off" to " I cant get Day one DLC they don't love ME anymore"

Everything I am getting from these interviews, the videos and everything else the focus is making a amazing game and as someone that hasn't bought a BioWare game since ME 2 (DA2 was gifted to me and ME3 a friend told me it was a Birthday present) I am tempted to pick it up.

When did the focus go from a great game to all this ancillary bs?

I don't know about anyone else but I want a great game and I want that game to be the focus.

You got me wrong. I love Dragon Age and Mass Effect and I bought every single game and DLC so far, Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 included. But I don't accept that EA hasn't learnt a single thing in the past few years how to treat their customers right. If they care about Xbox customers more than about me as a PC customer they have to live with the consequences. And in capitalism the only proper way to show them my opinion is to not buy their product. That's all I can do. Or better: if they sell me additional stuff later I will buy their game later.

The game itself still looks very promising (apart from the really weird art design) but this isn't the topic of this thread...

LOL, seriously? This post is too stupid to deserve any proper answer, really.

Business practices of EA and CDPR are like black and white. Light and dark. Good and bad.

Even if the dlc wasn't timed exclusive, there would still be a chance of getting spoiled from forums. Xbox releases their games and dlc days before Sony.

Also, I always find it ironic when people insult immaturity with...immaturity. Makes me teehee.

Ironic more is mistaking Sarcasm for immaturity, or even more so those who are too brainwashed to think for themselves outside of what Corporations tell them is good for them.

Really wish they would keep the consumers out of their silly console epeen wars but it can't be helped. Not a big deal for me personally as I don't plan on playing the game right away and spoilers don't bother me but I can see how people are annoyed. :/

Yeah, CDPR made the right call.

I wish Dragon Age: Inquisition wasn't being held back by the PS360's eight year old hardware.

Erm, I'm pretty sure it's releasing end of February 2015. That's about one and a half years since PS4/Xbone became "current gen" and PS3/360 became "last gen." It's entirely fair to make the game current-gen only, especially for a game that will need a lot of power for graphics and open world.

Edit: Wow @ this thread...
