Xbox timed exclusive DLC makes me sad

It's not exclusive content.

It is timed exclusivity meaning that it will release earlier on the Xbox platforms than it will Sony or PC. You still get the content, you just get it later.

And to be clear, timed exclusivity sucks. It sucks less than simple exclusivity, but it still sucks.

Think about it: the DLC will be finished, ready to be sold. We'll be ready and willing to buy it, eager to play through the content. We won't be able to, though, because some third party has bribed the publisher to keep the content away from us for a period of time.

EA has taken Microsoft's money and allowed Microsoft to come between EA's customers and the EA product that these customers would like to consume. That's some bullcrap right there. If you went out and ordered a burger meal, and I came along and paid the fry cook to make you wait half an hour for your fries, you would probably tell me (correctly, under the circumstances) what an ass hole I am, and never go back to that burger joint. Why? Because you don't like to be screwed around.

I'm not annoyed by this because I'll get some mystery DLC at the end of November instead of at the beginning of November. I'm annoyed because I don't like to be screwed around. EA is getting paid to enable Microsoft to screw me around, so from where I sit each of them is being an ass hole.

Hope that helps to clear it up for you.

Ironic more is mistaking Sarcasm for immaturity, or even more so those who are too brainwashed to think for themselves outside of what Corporations tell them is good for them.

Calling someone a "kiddy xtard" is not sarcasm, it's a juvenile insult. I am not sure what irony has to do with your latter point, or who you're referring to. You don't have to agree with the practice to understand it. Unless you're talking about the fact that the practice won't deter someone from purchasing the game or dlc. If that is the case, it's going to be hard gaming, considering exclusive content is not exclusive to Microsoft. Take a stand if you want and keep your money. As a consumer, that is your right. However, it's petty to call anyone who doesn't stand along with you during your revolution "brainwashed".

I just hope there isn't a disproportionate amount of time spent making the X1 version run well compared to the PS4, as opposed to just pushing each platform to the point.

Maybe a bit of a tin-foil hat moment, but I can't imagine the Microsoft marketing and exclusivity deal didn't at least consider the prospect of the PS4 simply running the game better and maybe incentivize bringing the PS4 "Up to, but not exceeding" the X1.

I feel like if I said this in front of a psychiatrist, they'd prescribe Lithium to me. Paranoia or acute awareness?! You decide.

My understanding is that the PS4 and X1 actually have a more similar architecture than the PS3 and 360 had.

PS3 was, purportedly, very developer unfriendly.

Welcome to the world of PC gamers. All our multiplat games are limited or hindered by console hardware.

But to your relief: it was stated multiple times now that Xbox One without the Kinect misusing peformance should pretty comparable to the PS4.

Microsoft isn't the only company that does this. Sony does it as well.

Also, it shouldn't be surprising. If Sony is selling better than Microsoft, logic lends to the belief that Microsoft will implement incentives to get people to buy games for Xbox. Even if Microsoft were doing better, it would still make sense they'd want to stay on top.

Of course Sony does it as well. Why wouldn't they? People are buying anything they throw at them.

It doesn't mean we skip the chance to bash either of them for doing so, just because the other one does it as well.

Also, it's hilarious that Microsoft is actually spitting in the face of their own customers as well, the xbox360 owners (as well as WinPC users), who will still need to wait along with everyone else, so that Garbage1 users can benefit for buying the "right" console. You see, there is no benefit in continuing to support xbox360 now.

It makes sense from a business standpoint maybe, but man, these people need a strong message at some point, which isn't coming soon enough, i'm afraid.

Personally speaking however, i chose to boycott both consoles, since i see them as a hindrance to gaming, and as an excuse to cut content or stall it for anyone that doesn't buy the right one.

There is also the small, although hilarious chance, that Microsoft might actually lose more money than they earn, from this deal. If people buy the DLCs anyway, then Xbox just got it first. But if people don't buy more Xboxes in general, they just spent their money on this deal for nothing.

Who cares about the last gen players?

Seriously. Why do people act as though being "behind the curve" so to speak is something that should be equally treated as the next gen platforms?

If anything, it's next gen consoles that are behind the curve. Always behind the curve, and dragging everything behind as well. Content included.

So with your mentality, why are "next gen" consoles being treated equally with PC, or even better?

But anyway, i couldn't care less about ps3 or xbox360. What i do care about, is that DLCs of Dragon Age are timed exclusives to Xbox1.

So i'm pondering, boycott all the DLCs? Or not? I'm not even sure i'm gonna bother that much time with DA, waiting one more month for each DLC.

Unless, the "timed" exclusive, is like, 3 days, which would be all kinds of hilarious.

Yeah, the BSN just might be getting worked up over relatively nothing. We don't know how long the delay is for everyone else. If it's just a few days, well.... who cares?

In most cases it's anywhere from three days to a week to three weeks.

I'm thinking a week, tops, though.

Soooo... you'd rather be told "You can never play this" instead of "You can play this a week later"?

That's absolutely true, but I suggest you re-read my post a couple of times. I probably just wasn't but it's about resource division.

I'm also curious if DA:I is targeting 60FPS or 30FPS. DA:I is in the unique posisition that I don't necessarily think say, 720P and 60FPS would be better compared to 1080p (Or upscaled 900p like BF4), but I don't think anyone will disagree (Except maybe the Developers of The Order 1886) that 60FPS is really really nice if you can hit it on consoles.

Also brings up a question of Kinect Support, since MS is releasing an SDK without it, feeing up more power to games... Will Dragon Age opt for better visuals or frame rate bump, or will it opt for Kinect Support? This also makes me think soon we may see Microsoft games labeled "Better without Kinect" since at least in the case of Destiny, Bungie managed to push it to 1080p on the Kinectless configuration.

That's a very hard position to defend. In most Multi-plats the option is Port or no game. Even if it's a crappy port, thanks to the PC mod community there's rarely an instance where PC would be better off without the port to begin with. It's weird because I think we agree on the premise: Make every platform specific version as good as it can be.

Anyway, my concerns weren't about hardware scaling necessarily, more about "Backroom Games Industry Politics" so this isn't really a hardware argument in itself.

I play on the Xbox 360, and I was a little disappointed to hear about the timed lockout for other players. They should just all release it at once. This is just a bad move on the part of EA and Microsoft.

The buck stops at EA. Microsoft isn't the Mafia. EA chose to partner, whatever that entails.

With that said the game is on varied systems, past Dragon Age DLC has not been trapped on one system over another unlike Elder Scrolls.

We probably shouldn't assume doom because a TRAILER was exclusively premiered at the Xbox thing, specially considering shortly afterwards it was officially posted for all on YouTube.

It is EA's fault for agreeing to the deal, but I still blame Microsoft.  Rather than work on making their own games with their own content so people can buy their sh#%y console (You have Shadowrun and Mechwarrior you assholes, USE THEM) they toss around millions to other publishers.  Basically this is a stupid tactic that started with Playstation 2, and only because developers made games on the PS2 first and then ported.  Which sometimes led to delays on releasing the game on other consoles.  Microsoft with the Xbox figured that if they dumped cash on a publisher and got the promise of the same type of delay folks would go for their console.

Well it's not working.

Figure i'd throw my hat in the ring. Truly I am sorry. Really I am. While I may be getting this content as I bought a xbox one, I still believe it is a shame to exclude it to xbox one (for a time). It may be a cold business related decision.  I mean it makes a bit of sense, push some people who are debating buying this game over the edge. " I could buy this for ps3 or xbox one ? Well it looks like Xbox one has a timed exclusive, guess ill pick it up for xbox." But still it is quite a shame.

You're right.  Letting them know is better than doing nothing.

The problem is we should not have to "let them know" companies should "know" this already on any multi platform franchise favoring a particular platform either blatantly or otherwise either through timed exclusive or totally exclusive content regardless of significance of said content benefits only one side and that's the company.

Sure it makes the company more money which might benefit later DLC or a Sequel, however all it does is divide the community and punish them for their choice of platform. It also harms the companies image by making it clear to customers that the company will favor whichever company can throw the most money at them instead of doing thew honorable thing and treat all platforms equally.EA has a bad reputation as it is doing things like this only hurts it further, Maybe its about time EA/Bioware followed CD Project Red's example of refusing to make any platform exclusive content and no timed exclusive content.

While personally I view consoles as a waste of good silicon and a "blight" on the industry that has resulted in game companies adopting some very questionable ethics such as Day1 DLC,micro transactions etc, I firmly believe that Console users should not be punished because they either can't afford a PC or are too intimidated to build one so I'd be equally as mad if Bioware made some PC exclusive DLC or gave PC users a timed exclusive on some content.

I guess the short of this semi-rant is that maybe employees and customers should do more to make the higher ups aware that this kind of practice is morally and ethically wrong its the capitalist equivalent of racism to give one subset of the community "preferential" treatment.Fans of the franchise like myself who buy anything Dragon Age do so because we love the franchise it means a lot to us and saddens us when it risks becoming tainted because the execs care only for profit at the expense of all else.

Naturally this leads to hard working people like yourself sometimes getting the short end of the stick when the big bosses fail to see "sense" and refuse to listen which is sad because if sales slumped they'd likely layoff staff and shut studios instead of changing their "attitude" because to them we are just a number/statistic/metric and walking cash machine

BaldWare should look for better publishers.

I hate exclusive content timed or not despite having an XBO. It's just stupid for either Sony or MS paying so that other platforms receive less or later.

I'll still get Destiny on XBO for instance.

You should look for a proofreader...

Bioware is owned by EA they can't look for a publisher.
