I must admit this does make me sad. I have a PC, but I only play RTS games on it (other than that, I work on it). I am getting a PS4 first. It simply plays third party games better. Later I will get an Xbox One. But Bioware is one of my favorite game companies and I always get their games on day one. So this is a small blow. Oh well, I'll get over it.

I'm not sad at all. I'm going to buy the game on PS4 and enjoy that for a long time. Will likely disappear for a month. And then I'll move on to other games. Whenever the DLC comes out I'm sure I'll still be busy with other games and life in general, so a month goes by quickly.

And in all honesty, even if BioWare/EA gets a good amount of money out of this deal, they must recognise how stupid it is having gone with the weakest, worst selling platform out of the 3 current gen ones available (PS4, PC, XBO). Personally, I don't see it selling any significant amount of units for the XB side and BioWare themselves have admitted to it already. So in the end it comes down purely to a money grab at the expense of fans' convenience and pleasure. Money speaking louder to EA, how unheard of!

Do we know the length of the exclusivity period?

We don't, but it's typically anywhere between 1 to 2-3 months. Can be longer.

Personally I'm more annoyed that PC users get the short end of the staff and are dragged into yet another pointless "Console War" that is even more pointless this generation because both are so nearly identical the difference is minimal and utterly irrelevant as both were outdated before they were even launched. Its just yet another example of a company more concerned with $$$$$ then treating their customer base equally no wonder EA is one of the most hated companies around when you add the 3 day delay between USA and EU launch into the mix this is just rubbing salt into the wound.

Which makes me wonder if EA/Bioware don't expect it to be a big system mover as Alan said then it begs the question Why do it in the first place ?

Because in the end it's likely that the money Microsoft payed EA/BioWare amounts to more than what they lose from gating the content for a month to just that platform.

It sucks. But it is no big deal.

Look at the full half (or quarter,or whatever) of glass - if that DLC is bad, other people will be burned by it. If that DLC has bugs, you get lots of people beta testing it just for you.

Not to mention,it can be cosmetics DLC,or multiplayer DLC.....

Anyway,as long as main game is good, waiting few months more for DLC is not end of the world. And if main game is (pleaseGodno) meh - as DA2 and ME3 teach us - DLCs will not fix it.

How well a console is selling has very little to do with it, otherwise Assassin's Creed wouldn't have had the permanent exclusives with the PS3. As much as people around here are forecasting it was a bad decision, we don't know the numbers that the people that made the decision did.

Very rarely are you talking about "1 to 2-3 months" for exclusivity of content to a platform.

If you're talking about something with that long of an exclusivity period, it will not be a story DLC or anything like that. You're talking about maybe a unique mount or another non-game changing item like that.

It makes me unhappy.Mostly I try to not think about it , I'll rage later...

I can deal with waiting one month for a DLC ...

But I remember for Skyrim some people had to wait months , can't remember what console it was.But it was a long wait.

I'll wait and see what Bioware does with its DLC content.

The Sims franchise made me feel like a cow EA wanted to milk dry .

If Bioware got this deal so they can have more freedom with their DLC content and how they sell it, I'm cool with that.(as long as I don't have to wait six months for something of course, I'm not very patient)

Sony just as bad as MS, look they have a deal with Destiny and have been having deals with ubisoft for years. I wish both company's stop doing this crap. But as long as people say Xbox sucks ps4 sucks . Companies are going make these deals. console wars = more sales.

Sad stuff really, but I'd like to clarify, last I checked all these exclusive nonsense is at the publisher level. Destiny's case it would be activision and dragon age ea.

I don't remember much about it, but I thought that was an issue with Sony?  Not an exclusivity deal.

Hmmmm....different company and all but Dawnguard was exclusive to 360 for 5 weeks and Dragonborn for two months before coming to PC.

For me its both, for either Sony or Microsoft will go to the publisher to get something exclusive and the publisher will say yes. It reminds me a lot of the old days when there were so many console exclusive games now Sony and Microsoft realize that isn't feasible anymore because of development costs and are pulling the same thing with DLC.

I'm sad. I'm frustrated. I'm hopeful.

I'm sad for myself because I'm not a console user and even if I DID have the money for a console, I still wouldn't buy one.

I'm sad for Bioware because you have to know the folks on the floor are none to happy with this decision. They're being open and honest about it, and I am extremely grateful for that. Yet it's going to reflect poorly on them ONE MORE TIME, and for a lot of folks it's going to be the nail in the coffin, so to speak. Not me, personally, but then I'm a drop in the bucket.

I'm frustrated for the 2/3rds of the DA customer base who are feeling like they don't matter. Even when I know that it's not the case.

I'm hopeful, because I really really REALLY hope Microsoft and EA saying "this is story content" means "Yeah totally story stuff! Old weapons and armor from previous games is story stuff! It comes with codex entries and everything! Stooorry!" and not "Here's a whole shiny six hour story content dlc that ya'll get to wait a month for because Xbox is our cash cow! Woo!"

:(

No idea ...I don't know much about consoles.

Just reading stuff in the Skyrim thread and some people didn't have access to  DLCs for a very long time.

Which wasn't necessarily because of exclusivity. Bethesda is, in general, pretty poor when it comes to the final production on their games. It could be that yeah it was due to exclusivity--or it could just have been that they did not want to look like chumps when Dawnguard and Dragonborn released on PC.

It didn't help that they were still dealing with backlash from New Vegas and its DLCs for the PC/PS3.

It was a multitude of things as others have said Bethesda games are notorious for being very buggy regardless of platform, most people who play Skyrim and Oblivion on PC play it modded for 2 reasons:

1)Bug Fixes that said mods introduce which fixes Bugs Bethesda either can't/won't fix

2)Both were atrociously lazy Console Ports, everything from Textures to menu interfaces were horrible "dumbed down" console issue which is why one of the most popular mods for Skyrim is an interface mod called SkyUI which is a vast improvement whether you use a KB/M or a joypad.

The biggest Standalone reason was that Bethesda was having serious issues trying to get the DLC to run on the PS3 at all never mind stable but I digress

Where are people pulling this 1-3 months figure from anyway?  I would expect 1-3 weeks at the most.

I believe they are guessing based on other games that have had timed exclusive deals for DLC.

No offence to Dragon Age but I think you are right.

I don't DA is popular enough for MS to go crazy and pay $50million for 1 year exclusivity.  It is rumored that is how much they paid to get the DLC for GTA4.

That doesn't make it ok. It's anti consumer.

The answer to Microsoft should have been: no. Sorry, we're not going to ****** off our customers to give you a prestige deal that excludes many of them.

What's Microsoft gonna do? Not allow one of the biggest RPG's of the year on their platform? HA!

Most likely this is happening at high levels though. Suit X  from EA plays golf with Suit Y from Microsoft and little suit hands are rubbed together, to the detriment of gamers.

Source for that?

I provided some sources shortly after the initial post your quoted...

I have sought clarification multiple times now from DA team members and I have been stonewalled each time. Given it is a simple question to which they should already know the answer, the stonewalling is adding credence to the concern that it will be all DLC as timed exclusive. Why they cannot give a simple direct answer to a simple legitimate and source provided question is concerning in itself. I am becoming increasingly offended by their silence on this.

It also paint's Allan's comments earlier in here as misleading or maybe as far as a lie about how Bioware are being honest and upfront regarding the issue of the timed exclusive DLC of which he claims that we as consumers are being informed early so we can make decisions ahead of time when given I have asked multiple times on here and twitter to multiple members of the DA team, on gaming sites and other sources plus provided links to explain why my question is legitimate and reasonable as well as on topic of this timed DLC...yet at each and every turn I am being stonewalled and ignored.

My question was simple, I am certain they know the answer and my reasoning was given plus sources shown as to why I feel the question needs to be answered but the only thing I am getting is ignored which I find is a disgusting way to treat their long time customers. If this keeps on I personally would rather stop supporting Bioware and stop buying their products even if I was looking forward to buying the game and have supported them and their products for well over a decade because I am becoming more and more offended by their silence and blatant disregard towards my legitimate and reasonable question the longer this keeps up.

I am simply getting too old to be screwed around over a simple question which requires a simple answer and despite them not potentially caring if lose my custom as I am just one man, my own patience has it's limits and lack of any common human decency on their part cannot be tolerated by me indefinitely despite how reasonable I have been about this so I would rather deprive myself of potentially a good game instead of being treated with contempt by the people who are trying to sell me and others their product, especially one that keeps claiming to be putting consumers first while their actions are shown to be opposed to that right now.
