No need to reboot. Just roll with IT or something similar and things will be fine.

For those of us who can stand IT, anyway.

Really a rebooted Mass Effect... I respect your opinion but in my own opinion I think this is stupid.

There is enough people who a interested in a continuation of the series and the next game is most likely going to be a sequel. Also I doubt people are interested in resolving the genophage and geth arc's a 2nd time.

I'm not sure if it needs a reboot, but I so badly want a 're-mastered' release of the original trilogy on next-gen (or current-gen; whatever we're calling X1/PS4 these days)... It would also allow us to carry over our saves to mass effect 4 (if that's what it is going to be called). The original trilogy remains one of all time favourite gaming experiences

I am fine with a Reboot. ME1 to ME3 was wrapped so tightly around Shepard and the Reapers that I have lost interest in the current continuity. I don't doubt that something could be made that would be interesting on its own but I am aware that they are tied to the ME1-3 story and just feel that I would rather experience it in a different scifi setting.

You can easily do that without a rebooting the franchise just make the game have no relation to the trilogy.

Based on what has been repeatedly said (tweeted, put in forums-and really only little tidbits) by the developers and reported on by various websites, the next Mass Effect game is not a sequel or a prequel. It also doesn't take place at the same time as the original trilogy. I am not sure what that means aside from doing some sort of time warp situation, like something you saw in the recent Star Trek movies. It doesn't mean things have to be repeated. Shepherd's story is done. But it would allow for creative license to reinterpret the races as they deem fit (and add new ones). It would avoid having to canonize any of the endings in the Mass Effect trilogy. Each ending shot out a beam...that beam altered the time/space continuum. As a speculative fiction writer myself, I could see the writers doing it. It has been done in a number of other scifi franchises over the years. Will it happen? Not sure. But it is a possibility. It wouldn't mean repeating the same events. The universe would be altered.

And you would likely have characters from the original trilogy, like Liara, who would remember what took place in the original trilogy because they were on the Normandy. Perhaps the crew on the Normandy were not affected by the time warp. They are in the altered universe with knowledge of the previous universe. Now you've connected the original trilogy to the new Mass Effect game. It isn't a sequel to Mass Effect 3. Nor is it a prequel. Nor does it take place at the same time as the original trilogy. It remains loosely connected to the original trilogy. And a new studio has the creative license they need to breath fresh life into the series.

Do I agree with this idea? Not necessarily. It sounds reasonable. Who knows? Only time will tell if this is a correct theory or if they chose to do something else. This is only a theory based on the quotes of developers as reported on various websites. Without word from Bioware, nothing can be confirmed 100%.

I have a question !

do developers mean sequel = direct or indirect continuation of shepards story and substories of his companions??

or   sequel= whatever  facts and plots take place after the me trilogy ?

because if they are thinking it the second way it is pretty clear we are going for a reboot of the series(maybe a star trek 2009 style)

If they mean the first, indeed is not a prequel sequel midquel and  naturally we are just going for a new story but with respect do what has happened so far in the universe (though, not incorporating in the new story  whoever related to shepard).

Reboot of ME sounds like a terrible idea to me. ME3 Ending is a total crap but there is no need to reboot the whole series especially when Mass Effect 2 IMO is the best game ever. Remastering of trilogy (better graphic, better interface etc.) that sounds great.

I disagree. Mass Effect is perfect the way it is, no need to reboot it.

Rebooting Mass Effect= probably not a good idea. (at this time at least)

An enhanced version of Shepard's trilogy= a good idea.

Right now all BioWare has said barely anything about the next Mass Effect game aside from Shepard's story is over.

It really depends on a person's personal definition of "reboot" for right now for me to consider it a "reboot" it means that what happened in the first three games never happened so Shepard never died, Sovereign never attacked the Citadel, the Quarian/Geth conflict is still ongoing, etc.

So for me the game isn't a reboot if they are continuing in the game and not rebooting if they leave the impact of those decisions in the game, but we aren't directly part of them.
