The thing is, it isn't just about BW, it's also about the release schedule of EA. And at this level, it isn't just about releasing the game. There is also marketing and advertising plans that also have a schedules. And delays cost money.

I hope they do it like Dragon Age: Inquisition wait as long as possible to actually announce the game, for the sounds of it they were originally aiming for a Fall 2013 release (which was never really said aloud), but when they publicly announced the release date it was Fall 2014 and just waited until recently to announce the exact date of October 7, 2014 only a couple of weeks ago.

Well, I couldn't find the article, but the search lead me to THIS lovely nutritional gem:

Maybe we should take this as an omen and spend the time until release with lifting? Like... "Eat like a Thresher Maw, lift like a Krogan!"...

BEEFCAKE!

December 31st is the placeholder date for late this year, early next year. I'd give it a release date in Q2 2015, don't want a big game like this to not have an E3 presence. Imagine if Dragon Age: Inquisition didn't have the delay it got, the game would never have as much hype as it has now. Anyways, I don't see Bioware and EA releasing this in the same year as DA, and when all they showed at E3 was some concept footage.

It's a placeholder date.  No one in their right mind would release a game on New Years Eve.

All they had to show us at E3 was pre-alpha conceptual footage.

There's no way in hell they'll have it ready for a December release.

Not a chance. DA:I is Bioware's big release this year. I doubt we get ME4 until hoilday season 2015 the earliest. 1 major title a year sounds about right for Bioware. They will probably show the game running by the end of this year. Then E3 next year they blitz the media with everything like they are currently doing the new Dragon age.

Be surprised to see it in 2015.  No way it comes out this year.

I'm getting ants in my pants-y over the wait, but I'd rather them take their time.

When did ME4 start development?

I'd bet on 3 years after that. (Fall 2015?)

18 months at the outside. Best possible timeline.

Beyond what everyone else has already said, December 31st would be a horrible release date. Not only have you effectively lost the Christmas rush, but many people aren't looking to buy 60-80$ games after the biggest holiday of the year.

2016 is the safe bet

December? Sure, 2015 or 2016 is the question.

March next year gets a "no way" from me as well. Compare how much we knew about DA:I this winter, which was a hell of a lot more than we know about Mass Effect: Dentist today.

I'd say we get a Teaser this N7 day.

Late 2015-Late 2016 are the most likely.

I think they might be trying to set up an annual cycle for the studio, at least in the future.  That's what a lot of large titles (Like AC and CoD) are doing.

DA game-ME game-New IP game

Or something, that really depends on how far along the new ME and new IP game are in their development.

Yep.

Late 2014 - Technically possible but only if they've done everything in super-sekret about it. So basically not happening.

Early 2015 - Might happen but kind of unlikely.

Late 2015 - Very possible but we don't know. (I'd bet on this period or around it)

Early 2016 - Very possible by we don't know.

Late 2016 - Might happen but unlikely, unless pushed back?

2017? - Ugh, really? Don't even want to consider this.

So 1-2 years away... omg...

Probably gunning for a pre-holiday release, like Inquisition.

According to Amazon UK you can now pre-order ME4 and it's release date is 31st December 2014. Would be nice but I doubt it.

Nope. Amazon UK has been on a roll lately.  I think they even posted up something about Mass Effect 3 on the newer consoles.

Dragon Age Fall 2014
Mirror's Edge Spring 2015
Mass Effect Fall 2015
Star Wars Battlefront Spring 2016

I'd propose that they will be released in the order shown at the E3 conference.  That'd put SW:BF before ME.  I'd put the new IP (I'm calling it "Trees", cuz that's all I saw) at Fall 2016.

"December" and then a year is basically a placeholder for "You can preorder this but we have no freaking clue when it will actually come out".

Mass Effect 3 on the nextgen consoles has cropped up at several different outlets, been taken down and then gone back up to get taken down again...so that is  possibly  really happening.
