Discussion thread for Bloodborne.

Hopefully we will see some gameplay soon, E3 isn't over yet and the original leak was followed by GIFs showing samples of gameplay so one would think a demonstration is soon to follow, just hope it is not behind closed doors and if it is hope somebody at least leaks cellphone footage.
There's a chance that we'll something very soon, either this week or near Tokyo Game Show, but at the very least we'll get some gameplay impressions from the media for sure. Kotaku's Jason Schreier is soon having an hour-long appointment to see Bloodborne
Edit: From the leaks (even if they're apparently very old footage), the gameplay seems extremely Souls-y, so any written descriptions can easily fill the blanks for me
Maybe like RE4 if you threw in a lot more melee weapons and upped the difficulty to max. >.>So, it's like Resident Evil meets the movie Van Helsing?
Chances are good. If they'd leaked the webm bits, there's likely a larger source where it came from. There's a chance that we'll something very soon, either this week or near Tokyo Game Show, but at the very least we'll get some gameplay impressions from the media for sure.
Well, this is great. Here my plan was to get an Xbox One and there goes Sony messing with my plans.
I do have to say, Xbox has really never done a good job of impressing me with their exclusives, Halo aside.
Definitely one of the highlights of Sony's conference.
Considering The Order 1886 is in all honestly looking pretty crap right now, I'll consider this its replacement.
FROM Software is starting to show the demo to journalists. Video impressions:

Will it also have BALLISTICS, wacky Spaniards, and an ironic retro-campy story? ![]()
It does look interesting, will absolutely keep an eye on it
Bloodborne will likely fall more towards a romantic comedy. Our protagonist, swept into a monster-ridden london finds the love of his life in a werewolf with a heart of gold. You'll smile, you'll cry, and you'll probably die 500 times before getting to the romance scene. Will it also have BALLISTICS, wacky Spaniards, and an ironic retro-campy story?
- 'You cannot play this the same way as Demon's Souls' - Have to be more aggressive
What do you think this says about the gameplay? While it is nice to see the Souls team try new things part of what I loved about the Souls series was how the gameplay directly tied into and added to the tension, not knowing what lay around the corner and knowing that death is just one misstep away caused a more cautionary and defensive approach to gameplay and exploration, it was the source of a lot of the Souls games tension and atmosphere and with Bloodborne taking the horror route one would think that they would want to keep that sense of atmosphere and tension, not sure how they would do that with a more aggressive gameplay style.

I hate the art style, but it does seem really unique.

Since several sources have called their characters more agile and quick than your usual Souls character, it seems like the more dodging and footwork oriented defenses are made into better options than before.
Now, part of the reason for favoring a more aggressive style seems to be due to enemies moving on the map. Not 100% clear mind you, but this seems to be the case. It seems you can avoid groups of enemies by taking alternate routes or hiding as they go past you, so you're tense while moving around and fighting for longer periods since there's no telling when someone is just going to ambush you because you got on their patrol route at a bad time.
I could imagine that in a game where every enemy has patrol routes, you'd not want to fight in one spot forever, but get back into safety ASAP.

It's not really grabbing me with the yet-more-werezombies-or-whatever setting it's got going on from the looks of it.

I don't think this means the player won't have to be cautious with their footwork. I think it's meant to move players away from the massive armor/shielded characters, which often take away much of the tension from Dark Souls.
Much as I love the game, the ability to make a high poise/armor/health character means that you're less likely to worry about arriving at death's door step. The game can keep From's reputation for difficulty and caution while steering players away from expected safety nets.

Perhaps I am taking the quote out of context but "being aggressive" to me seems to indicate going on the offensive and taking a more proactive approach, hiding and evasion is more of a defensive strategy and not what I would associate with "being aggressive".
It Looks cool. Like the setting and the fact it's gonna be gory. Project Beast was still a better name, though.
Nah, I like the name Bloodborne better.
And I can't believe we have two people here bashing the artstyle and setting. When was the last time there was a gothic victorian style RPG? Thief and Dishonored gave us steampunk/pseudo-Victorian settings but didn't feature werewolves/undead at all. On that note, I hope they include vampires.
"Enemies, too, have more nuance. The diseased villagers that patrol the city have broader behaviour patterns - a mob of them may converge in a town square, working together in a hunt, before the familiar ring of a town bell will send them back out again on their own individual paths. It makes for a more organic, more emergent place to explore - enemies no longer simply spawn, it seems, but rather patrol the city according to their own internal logic. There's tragedy to that logic too, their behaviour part of some ritual the citizens of Yharnam are unwittingly locked into."

So we've got a vibrant living world. This is exactly what I've wanted From Software to do for a while now in a Souls game to add unpredictability everytime you play through an area.

I thought Victorian Era was the new fad in game development these days? I mean you already got Dishonored and Thief, throw in Amnesia, a couple of Sherlock games and the Order 1886 which also seems to feature Werewolves! (though not sure about undead)
