Doesn't matter in the least. Bloodborne doesn't share a connection to the Dark Souls series. There has been some speculation that it might share something with Demon Souls but I don't recall anyone ever proving it.

So far, it's been in terms of design philosophy. Based on what I've seen, FS is doing their own IP instead of riffing on earlier work.

I ****** love this game. A few hours in, amazing.

Seconded. This is hella great tbh. I've gotten my first chalice and gotten scared straight by some of this stuff. The bosses are definitely more unpredictable, nearly every one seems to be built in phases - Father G's a good example. He's the first one I got rekt at:

Spoiler

I guess the big question is what to play? I know class is just starting template but what to focus on? Is there magic and spells in this? What sort of abilities can hunters call on in this game, I know we have guns in this but I am not sure what their use is? Stagger enemies while they attack? Does this work on all enemies?

Also what weapons did you guys choose at the start? Personally I like the pimp cane, not sure how good it is but it sure is cool.

I chose the Saw. It's like having an oversized dagger that transforms into, well, a saw. o.O Handy for crowds, or anything requiring long-range action. For guns, basically what Shepenwet said. I rarely use it, but it can be great for emergencies where you need to whittle them down from afar, or eventually stagger them. I'd expect it would apply to the average enemy.

I've hit the first thing to actually anger me.

Not even a boss. Spoilers for Old Yharnam:

Spoiler

As for Father Gasbag...

Spoiler

On the plus side, I can now be summoned to help people. I've never tried the summoning feature yet, I've heard you can use passwords to make sure you find your friends' games. I'm curious as to how well this works. Do you need insight to be summoned? Or just to summon? I could look it up but I'm afraid my eyes will wander and see something I shouldn't. It's happened before.

STILL DOWNLOADING!

If anyone has a PS4, how the heck can you increase the speed?

I've already tried using other methods..... it shouldn't take days to DL 5GB's!

^I'll be trying that tomorrow.

Although I heard a PS4 system update hits tomorrow, so...

...sigh. Please don't be huge. Also, don't brick people's consoles or screw with rest mode...

I love how you just spammed the Molotovs at the Cleric Beast in #5. Was like "oh to hell with this".

I really hope Bloodborne makes it to the PC in 2016. Or before, wouldn´t mind that.

After grinding a handful of levels and practicing my dodge roll against the Ganados and Lil Gigantes, I've successfully defeated Cleric Beast. It might've taken more than a half dozen tries and a lot of Blood Vials, but said beast is fell. I went on to finish Father G a half hour later, who, in comparison, was a cakewalk - riposte! riposte! riposte!

I have to share spirosz' sentiments, I'm loving exploring this game sans spoilers, and grateful that that pleasure of the Souls' games remains intact. Probably my only complaints so far are performance-wise. Sure, loading times could be better, but I think the frame rate and draw distance (texture pop-ins) are my biggest gripe. Bloodborne would have no doubt been even more amazing on PC, because the world has a ton of detail to it, along with all it's inhabitants as well. Still, and it has to be said, just playing this game is a treat.

More spoilers for Old Yharnam:

Spoiler

My brother and I tried to team up, just to see if it would work. We set passwords, all that jazz, rang the bells... nothin'. He even said he tried summoning without passwords, just for random people, nobody showed. Right now it just appears to be a waste of insight. Has it worked for anyone? Has anyone tried?

Just got home form work. Game finished downloading.

Haven't even began the game yet, but the CC is blowing my mind!

I mean there's some pretty good choices, didn't expect options like tattoos and scars, and even glasses, all customizable

What I REALLY like is that you can save I think 6 to 8 presets and choose your favorite.

Something I really really really wish inquistion had.

Yep, it's the first time I can recall FromSoftware allowing created favorites to be saved. And unlike previous games, you're all human all the time; The hard work stays there :P

I also downed the [REDACTED]. It was the easiest boss so far for me.

Same, the only one I've yet to die to. Still pretty frightening boss anyway.

Sure, loading times could be better, but I think the frame rate and draw distance (texture pop-ins) are my biggest gripe.

Yep, I think technical issues seem to be the only big ones at the moment. I'd noticed *brief* pop-in near the Cathedral Ward. Frame Rate's been rather nice for me, though.

Fixed the YouTube links so they're all in one playlist - no need to click a bunch of times.

Finished the first Chalice Dungeon, was surprisingly fun. :)

I've died quite a bit myself.

Have you gotten any insight points? You need one to talk to the doll for leveling up.

Nope. I have the hunter's uniform though. I guess the storage room is still locked until you beat the first boss?

I get up to the bridge with the werewolves, and that's it. Lights out for me.

I picked the saw and the blunderbuss gun.

I'd just ignore them and head somewhere else, they're not necessary to kill. The best Self-Defense Technique is avoidance. Once you know your way around the place, running past them all is a good way to go.

And yeah, leveling up ASAP is a good idea.

I might be wrong, but I think as soon as you encounter the first boss, (you don't have to beat it) you get a point of insight, which unlocks the doll and allows you to level up, and I think the doors open then.

I'll be trying out my first chalice dungeon tonight. Sounds like great fun.

They'll follow you to an extent, the lycans even further, but you're faster than them so you can just sprint your merry way to the boss fight.

Well that's the risk in a From game, they like to mentally **** with you, so you make a hard decision, go cash it in and possibly miss a lantern, or get brutally murdered by a bastard with a brick

HOW THE WAFFLES ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO BEAT THAT?!

I barely managed on my first try, I used all but 3 of my blood vials and the Iosefka blood vial.

I only had 10 quicksilver bullets, so I had to sacrifice my health 3 times (5 extra bullets each time), but I only got 3 Visceral attacks.

Just be patient fighting the Cleric Beast, learn how he attacks and then jump in with a strike, or try to counter shoot him to get a visceral attack since those really help out.

I beat that thing! OMG!

I watched it die. I dropped my PS4 controller, my palms were sweating buckets.

I painstakingly horded 12 vials. Found out its SO much easier to run through most of the level.

I came. I saw. I conquored!

This game is maddingly challenging.......... and after I beat that first boss, I keep on wanting to play.

I think I lost my mind.
