I jumped to the conclusion that Leliana would be captured later in the game due to how the trailer sort of mimics Bastila's situation but it is more likely she is introduced that way. Hmmm... introduced in a helpless, potentially embarrassing experience... the parallels to Liara continue to grow.

I'm not sure why people make an issue out of this. Are male characters the only ones allowed to be captured and rescued by the protagonist? Must female characters never fail or face a setback?
In any case, I don't think Leliana is a damsel in distress. She is clearly as capable as any of her male counterparts.

Damsel in distress, eh? Here I thought she'd become a badass in her own right by now.
The Warden and Alistair were captured and depending on your choice had to be rescued. Does that mean they're not badasses?

Because it's "offensive" to place a female in any state of danger in which she must rely on a male for support. ![]()

This reminds me of that one big blog post Gaider posted about having to change a certain scene due to help of his fellow female co-workers' perspective(s). I wonder if this scene was originally way more graphic.
I really hope that sometime after DAI comes out DG will talk about it with more detail. I really want to know what the scene was and If I'd see what the female writers saw.
But considering some of the crazy "fans" out there he probably won't ![]()

Can you blame him ?
It's fiction, people should stop seeing it as anything else. The games rated 18 ,we are all big boys and girls who should know the world is not kittens and flowers.

Leliana is easily as capable as any of her male counterparts, but that doesn't mean she can't be overpowered and captured though.

Is Damisel in Distress trope valid even if my Inquisitor is female?
Keep calm guys. This is just a piece of a bit of a ¿quest? we don't know how important. And as almost always, the WAY is executed is more important than the actual thing.

Perhaps Leliana was just indulging and expanding her fantasies. I mean she did mention in Origins about honey and stuff. So maybe she decided to get tied up. ![]()

There's a whole trope for this. Batman, for instance, gets captured every other week.

I think this is in the beginning of the game, right after we start the Inquisition one of the main mission is to rescue her.

It happened to her in Leliana's song didn't it? I believe it's even hinted that she was raped through some dialogue not to mention the suspicious position of blood right beneath her legs. So at that point, it was like The Witcher.

Either way she was clearly tortured so it wouldn't be anything new to her. She'll probably be able to resist her "bondage" in Inquisition for a while and I swear she says she's been captured before as well and tortured when she was serving as a spy back in Orlais. So based on her track record: She'll be fine, don't you worry and even if she did end up dead then The Maker would just resurrect her again.

It was implied that Leliana was raped both in her DA:O dialogue discussing her capture and in the DLC itself.
Given that she is already a rape victim I doubt they'll retread the same territory in DA:I.

I agree. I was just stating that it's implied, not that it'll happen again in Inquisition. My point is that she's dealt with torture (in many forms) before so when she says she'll not yield to whoever this captor is, you have reason to believe her.
As others have said though, we don't know the context of Leliana's capture but I think it'll be an interesting plot.

I think the Witcher2 actually did that well I had a sense of grim satisfaction when I handed that guy over to the old woman. Then again I put a bullet in everone involved in the sex trafficking ring in Watch Dogs.

I took Vernon BROche's path and let him kill the rapist king for what he did to Ves.
