Been interested in this title for a while.  Was hanging out for GoG version but is 75% off on Steam at the mo.  Reading things there seems to be a few issues with the Steam version.

I'm ok doing stuff like renaming exe's, running in compatibility mode, under admin rights, editing ini files to config things.

Is that the level of tweaking required to get it running, is it worth it once those sort of things are sorted out?  I mean is it stable after the initial fluffling around to get it running?

Edit - I'm not referring to the quality of the game as a game btw.

Let me know!

Thanks

I picked up the PC version yesterday off of Steam for $3.74, knowing I would have to do a little research to get it working.  It took me about 15 minutes to find the right fixes for the two issues I had (failure to find steam, configuration utility crash on startup) and then it played without any problems.  I run windows 8.1.

I ended up bypassing the initial config utility launch, which is no biggie because all the options in the config utility are available in game under the Options menu.  I did have to add an entry to the registry to tell it the path to run jade empire, but the directions I used were crystal clear so it was pretty simple. The directions I used are here: http://forums.steamp...=2796942&page=3 this thread, 3rd post down, from Tealus.

I bought the Steam Version. It's nigh impossible to get it running without having to change files. What I did was buy it on GoG and it works perfectly.
