A computer program convinced more than 33% of testers that it was a 13 year old kid, who was possibly speaking a second language.

A computer just passed the Turing Test in landmark trial

Even 33% might sound low, it is actually very high, because at 50% it would be equally believable with human. :)

Don't believe everything you read on the interwebs.

No, A 'Supercomputer' Did NOT Pass The Turing Test For The First Time And Everyone Should Know Better

Ok then... I'm just gonna hide behind that "Sorta" in the title.

That article is doing more complaining about the Turing Test than it is coming up with counter points as to why this is BS, but he still hit one or two points.

Even if we assume that this is 100% true for a moment, then it's still not as big of a deal as people are making it out to be because A. The test is designed to see if one thing(a computer) can effectively imitate something it's not(a human) rather than prove something has intelligence and B. since it's not that hard to do that these days, plenty of other machines have already done that and with a greater success rate than this one.

We were always going to create a machine that can effectively imitate human responses once given enough processing power.

The trick is a computer that can legitimately "think" for itself, which is a much larger discussion based around the idea of what the definition of intelligence or thinking really is.
