Seeing that we don't know any story specifics yet, what am I allowed to talk about in "character discussion"? Just how far can I take it?

I need to know the rules, so I don't get told I'm off-topic. Can I talk about character related "lore"? Like Chantry discussion in a Cullen or Leliana thread? Qun discussion in an Iron Bull?

Or is all about romance discussion? I have fun with all aspects of these characters, so I don't know how to restrict myself.

Now I am trying to remember what the rules are. As far as I know, you can go off topic ofc (it's not all about romance) but if you are going to get into some deep conversation about something that isn't the topic of the thread then you should probably create a new thread.

So some long Chantry discussion in a Cullen thread should probably be made into a new thread but it's not exactly a strict rule, it's just to keep stuff on topic.

Lol, you should know by now, "Character Discussion" thread or not, EVERY thread is all about romance discussion.

Thank you. I probably just stay away if the rules are nebulous. I feel more comfortable talking about DAO and DA2.. everything sort of blends together in those sections.

The mods are only going to step in if the thread goes completely off topic and becomes about something else entirely. Or at least that is my experience, I haven't read the site rules in ages.  :D

A thread full of (awesome) fan art, pre-made fanfics and headcanons (often involving romance and squeeing) while knowing nothing about the character and the occasional speculation and dab of information as given.

Sometimes rather entertaining, other times

Nailed it.

It's just for fun. Speculation about the unknown is fun and is done in most if not all fandoms.

Because Dragon Age is a companion based RPG, it is natural that fans discuss various elements of companion relationships. Given how much importance we place on love and relationships in real life, it is also natural that discussions about characters with whom you interact with consistently involve taking those relationships to the next level. ie romance

Not to say that it isn't taken overboard sometimes, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Pretty sure most people here are aware they're crushing on pixels. Doesn't make it any less entertaining to roleplay relationships you aren't likely to ever experience. I mean, I highly doubt ill become a space marine an have space cuddling with another soldier or kiss a handsome mage after they barely survived an explosion.

Its part of the experience and I personally love every bit of it. You can talk about anything you want.

As long as you make you case of how the two topics are related, there should be no problem. However randomly starting to talk about, for instance, Loghain in an Iron Bull discussion would probably be viewed as off-topic.

They are supposed to be about every aspect of the character...the good/the bad/the ugly.  Unfortunately, they tend to focus on romance and then you get some that don't want to hear anything negative about their fave character.

Most of them go way off topic on occasion.

If you feel the desire to discuss something about a character, I would say feel free to post in their thread and hope someone bites XD

Why do the mods restrict different ideas on a specific character to one thread though? There was an interesting discussion about Cullen a few days ago opened on a new thread and it was shut down by mods saying Cullen discussion belongs only on the Cullen fan thread.
