Well, Mark Darrah said that the Warden and Hawke will play important roles in DA:I. So I´m not sure if he meant that they will appear as NPC. The Warden and Hawke play very important roles in the Dragon Age universe and I´m pretty sure that they have this in mind. Personally, I would love to see them.

Unless they allow you to change the way they look away from default, no thanks.
Yeah, that's another thing. Both DAO and DA2 had entirely different engines. CAN they map the faces of the PC from previous games into the new engine? Or would we get stuck with a default face? Because then, once more, it stops being the character we roleplayed back in the last two games. And if they stop the game to allow us to craft the characters face, it would take the player out of the moment. It just seems awkward.
So yeah, I stand by the idea that the Warden and Hawke should be whispered about, maybe, at most, they send a letter to the Inquisitor for some reason or another, but not actually legitimately appear in game.

Personally, I'd love it if they stopped the action of Inquisition and asked you to describe the Hero of Ferelden and the Champion of Kirkwall's appearance before the mission they appear in, or at the beginning of the game. I'd settle for them not appearing at all, though (just being talked about). Rather not see them, than see a default stand-in "that's-not-my-Warden/Hawke" character.
