Hearing all the news of the new Mass Effect lately made me think about the future of Mass effect.

A new main character, all new characters, LI's and whatever but in my opinion there's no Mass Effect without Shepard and some of the trillogy crew. What would Halo be without the Master Chief or Zelda without Link? I can't imagine a Mass Effect without Shepard. What about the story? The Bioware team made one of the best stories in gaming history, the fight against the reapers who want to rip the galaxy a new a**hole, destroying anything and everything in their way. It's impossible to top something that big. I would want to see a direct sequel on Mass Effect 3 or no Mass Effect at all anymore. If Bioware made a Mass Effect sequel without Sephard or any of the existing characters they should give it another title than Mass Effect.

I'm very grateful for Bioware to make such a fantastic franchise but a rather wouldn't see it raped for every buck EA can get.

Mass Effect isn't supposed to be about Shepard. ME1's Prologue said that this game is about technology that allows interstellar travels and 'The basis for this incredible technology was a force that controlled the very fabric of space and time. The civilizations of the galaxy call it... MASS EFFECT."

The story about 'Ancient force that can destroy everything' is very cliche. Remember 'The War of the Worlds'? And ME3 endings prove that when you try to tell a story this MASSIVE, things can get out of hand. And Shepard was made a god-like being. C'mon, in the beginning of ME1 I could relate to this character. I chose the background, I make desicions through Shepard. But in ME2 and 3 it didn't feel like it was ME (Yeah, Shepard is supposed to be the Avatar of the player.), I didn't make choices, Shepard made choices through me. I became just a tool and some viewer. In ME3 he was a completely different character. He even spoke and acted on his own.

You remind me of those fans who were crying about Assassin's Creed III's ending. 'There can never be Assassin's Creed without Desmond!!! He stopped the end of the world!' While the series is not about Desmond but about learning history through device called Animus. The same is with you. Although I can completely understand your reasoning, sometimes you just have to move on.

I want to come back into the game and make MY choices, play the game like I want and to truly EXPLORE the galaxy. Mass Effect 1 is my favorite because although I had a mission, stop Saren, I also was learning about different species, their culture, problems between them etc. I traveled the worlds from average and empty to astonishing, beautiful and full of life. I want to continue my path of exploration and learning. And maybe with lack of shooting for a change.

What I would like to see happen in the new mass effect is better closure as you are right ME is about a lot more than just Commander Sheppard and his team. With that being said he is the character you spend time with making decisions over the course of 3 games.

I do agree learning about the species, history, and culture made the game truly wonderful and showed how much time and effort was put into it as well.

I do believe though that Bioware should show what happened to Sheppard as they have said he lives, but it leaves people wondering what happened after that? If they give some closure to that and bring a new group of characters and spatter in the old ones that would be wonderful for the core of ME fans.

Didn't Extended Cut said everything they wanted to say? We surely got closure. But if that isn't enough, It was your story, use your imagination. If you pick Destruction and survived, imagine what would your Shepard and his friends do. Or if you think that it was just an IT dream, again, use your imagination how Shepard stopped a Reaper threat. They don't have to take away our freedom to think and imagine. I have an artistic vision too. I would be pretty pissed off if after Shepard survives or doesn't, they tell me 'After 20 years Shepard becomes a new Human Councilor and with his wife/husband or just partner (add your LI) have plenty of children.' Possibly blue since they canonize Liara too much. I don't want them to tell how my story ended other than what I've already got. I would rather finish it my way.

But if your concerns are how would Blue/Green endings (since Red just destroyed the Reapers, robots can be rebuilt) play out, well, I'd rather not see and hope that we are far enough to actually see controlled Reapers or being green transhu...(trans-organic, I guess?) beings. But if they actually try to explain that, I would be interested to see how would they manage to do it.
