Wouldn't that mean those romances would also count for the Mass Effect franchise, in turn leading to an even higher numbers or romances across all BioWare games DAI would have to surpass to let Laidlaw's statement hold true, which in turn would mean since ME is now tied to DAI that every new romance/LI would also count towards the to-be-surpassed count by default, ending in an infinite loop of requiring more and more romances?

My guess is Romance in past Bioware games = a romance that unlocks an achievement/trophy. So no counting Kelly or Allers. (Does Sebastian count for the 'romantic' achievement?)
I figured on four minimum, since that's what we've had in past DA games. I hoped for six, since that's what we've had in past ME games. Now... maybe possibly more than six? That'd be gravy.

I'd been thinking they're going with the 2/2/2 sexuality system because they're not doing all-bi again and going back to Origins would cause a justifiable shitstorm, so I think six was always in. Now, though, I'm wondering if it might be 2/4/2, for a total of 8.

Actually ME3 had 5, Garrus and Tali can't have romance content unless you romanced them in ME2

They are still considered romances for that game by the majority though.
