Well to be fair it was quite obvious.

Not as obvious as Kenny's death from telltales the walking dead, but I knew he was alive. Usually in writing if you imply a major character's death without making it at all certain, you can almost be sure that they're still alive. I was shocked when I finished Origins for the first time and didn't see Duncan make a reappearance.
