They'll charge you when the game ships(online) or in-store when you pick it up or pay it off(of course).
Thanks. I guess I'll keep my preorder up until things are all confirmed or a week before release if they're still yanking my chain.

It's always safe to preorder early and hold on to that preorder in case you still plan to get the game. If anything changes that displeases you to the point where you don't want to purchase the game, cancel the preorder and no charge to you, as long as you cancel before the game ships. Usually these games ship on launch day or a few days prior.
Man, the fact that a chart exists to explain all the gated romances is hilarious.
Yeah , not sure what I feel about that whole race thing.
I mean yeah , it probably make a lot of sense for some characters.
But I imagine depending on what you do in game ( how you treat different factions etc...) , some LI will tell "No.Thanks."
So it seems a bit complicated.
On the bright side , I tend to somehow get my LI killed in DA games ...So maybe it's for the best if all the companions run away from my future Inquisitor.
Guys, I may have found the chart

They're obviously just using codenames for everything in it just to taunt us.
Yeah, I'd rather "the chart" if it ever does get released, get released post-launch.
Give players the chance to figure things out for themselves and make these decisions count.
So if I play a certain way and this character I want to romance is unavailable, I can go, "Damn, well how do I romance him/her?"
*chart*
Oooooooh
*back in the game*
Or I could just go in with no compass and figure it out the hard way, hahaha
Getting the most out of this game. I didn't do that in DA2 but I hope to do it here. Though I understand the appeal for those who want it early.
If anything, it could be released pre-launch of the game and I(along with others like me) can try to avoid it.
That sounds like a good course of action.
I'm just trying to play it safe.
You probably have more self control that I do. Once I know there's a leak and information available, I can't help but gorge myself on as much DA information that's available. Every single time there's a game out I'm excited for, I fall into the same bad habits. If the information if available ahead of time, I'm sure I'll read it even if I have the best intentions not to.
I do hope they release that before the game is out though!

Watch, there's going to be a flag for previous DA games on whether your Lis from past games survived and because of this, there will be no romance options for you regardless of race!
Thing is, I'd love choice-gating! That makes so much sense, and actually does add depth to NPCs! But christ, maybe I just want to be tall and buff and have horns. Shockingly, I'm not super into knowing what sort of porn an NPC likes, which is all race-gating tells me. The gender-gating with the inclusion of exclusively gay NPCs is at least representation.

See, thats the problem. As information comes out, I look into it because its always a good thing to do to help your fellow forumites in case they're unaware of something and are questioning it, need clarification or a link, etc etc, as well as for my own knowledge and curiosity.
So selflessly and selfishly I'll look into information that gets released on the game. Not spoilery stuff after people get the game though, I stay away from that for my own sake.
So I'm kinda begging for that chart to be saved for post-launch for my own hope of avoidance. ![]()
I think it's good. This way, the romance is true to the character, not the other way round. Having Hawke, a human, romance Merrill always bothered me a bit.
Some races won't have restrictions on them? I guess that humans wouldn't, since that tends to be the most popular race choice in games that allow you to pick it.
Hmm, I have to wonder if a lot of those folks are telling us to "deal" with the racial restrictions are planning on playing mainly straight male humans. In every BioWare game that I've played, with the exception of DA2, it was always made sure that the straight male characters have a variety of ladies to choose from. The romances are usually open to humans, but everyone else has some sort of restriction. No dwarf romances so far either, since that's "too much of a fetish," but everyone luvs them sexy elves, right?
This seems to be a theme throughout the company. A straight fem shep got a bunch of options. Yeah, right. So many to choose from.
After counting total of 4 romances for straight women across 3 games, one of them dies at the beginning of the third game and one of them cheats on you for no good reason and dumps you in between games. Lesbians got NPCs for romances (no sorry BioWare, but I've tried and the content isn't as good as a companion romance,) while poor gay men were stuck with a very cute guy that was almost morbidly obsessing over his dead husband.
Gay men haven't even had representation in the Dragon Age games yet, and now they have to roll the right race in order to experience this content.
That's why I'm opposed to this so much. I am really afraid that anyone that doesn't want to play a straight human male will be lucky if they get more than a single lone LI. I don't think that would go over very well if the shoe was on the other foot. If BioWare had a very large variety of content for gay, bisexual and lesbian romances, and only one LI for the straight male human, a whole lot of folks would cry "Foul" very very loudly.
Some races won't have restrictions on them?
No one said that. There could very well be a character that will not romance humans, or elves, or whatever have you.

I just checked DG's post and you're correct. Then I misread and I'll edit, but I still stand by the rest of my post.

I'm hoping one of the human female characters isn't into humans.
I coulde see Iron Bull being locked off to elves.
"There isn't a Spirit Healer strong enough to let this happen, I'm afraid."

I'm sure there'll be options for a buff FeMinotaur! Don't give up hope.
Oh my God.
An Inquisitor. Romancing Iron Bull. Telling Morrigan about it.
The horrified look on her face
OH MY GOD I almost spit acorn squash all over my screen!

If they don't do this, I'll return my game.

YOU'RE WELCOME
By "particular group" I mean "in real life."
Worrying about the distribution between male and female players, and one of them feeling like content geared at them was an afterthought, I am fine with. Worrying about a distribution amongst sexualities, and making it so that gay or bisexual players don't feel they won't have choices, I am also fine with. Worrying about "players who like playing dwarves" or "players who like playing humans" or whatever other races, that I'm not as concerned about. Which is why I'm saying you will have options, but you may not have the same number of options depending on what race you select.
It's fine if someone doesn't like that idea. Some folks, we're quite aware, aren't happy that romances are being gated at all and would prefer to have all romances available to all PC's. I would suggest not panicking just yet, as not all romances are even race-gated and the options have not all suddenly dried up as someone might fear, but I suppose until and unless they learn otherwise they can justifiably choose to be pessimistic. Maybe we'll put up the chart (yes, there's actually a chart) at some point, and having said information will make you feel better before you play the game, but that's not really my decision.
I need this chart!
Can I ask a general question for those that played BG2 that didn't play straight male humans?
Did you really enjoy the racial gating system? Was that something that needed to make a comeback? Did it truly add to your game anyway? Or did it make you decide to ignore the romances all together?
Also, why was racial restrictions put in when even in Origins (which had years of development time,) the devs realized it was too restrictive and decided to make it a non-issue? What was the change for? To make a better story? To give the companions "more depth" by making them have racial preferences? The gender aspect I understand and have made peace with, but this? How would this add anything to the game, other than, "Sorry, but you rolled the wrong race?"
I don't anticipate a lot of torches and pitchforks over this, but I can see the average DA fan that isn't on the forums, one that doesn't eat up all of the dev info/latest news going, "Wait, what's this? Why did Companion X turn me down? I heard they were an LI, so what gives? They're a straight guy, I'm a straight girl."
<beat> "Oh, it's because I'm a dwarf. This is new to the Dragon Age games..."

They may just like/love that.
They may just like/love that.
YMMV of course, but most of the friends of mine that were BG2 fans that dealt with racial restriction hated it. Unless they were playing a human male, then they would talk about the romances being pretty good.
I hated it too, and I still hate it whenever I play BG2. My solution to that is to just skip the romances in that game.
I was tossing the question out to you as well: Did you honestly enjoy race restrictions in BG2 along with the gender restrictions? If you did, could you please tell me why? I'm trying to learn more and not be so negative about this.

Well, I mean, as much as it sucks, people have their preferences. I'm a tall white male with a beard. There are people who- through no fault of their own- that would take issue with one or more of those traits- it makes it a little more real. I mean, if our world had Humans, Dwarves, Elves, and Qunari, do you think there wouldn't be people who had issues with some of those traits? Especially in a medieval-ish time period?
