That would definitely be the best option.

Burn down an orphanage, but leave your LI back at base? When you return there, they've heard about it (Because really- how would they not?) and are rightfully pissed.

Burn down an orphanage BEFORE you recruit them? You can flirt with them, but then one of the companions you did have at the time tells them about it.

You have to play the game like someone they'd love, or at least play the game with a maxed-out Cunning score and be a smooth motherf*cker the rest of the time too.

smoother than the magical lovechild of Zevran and Varric with a side of, like, Prince.

The subject came up in the past, a what-if scenario of a committed romantic interest sleeping with someone else while still together with the PC.

People loved the idea. Some, not so much. hahaha

Well, Jacob did that. It did not go over well. (Although there were lots of circumstances surrounding it that made it way more problematic.)

I mean, they kinda had that in Origins, right? Alistair found out if you killed Connor or Isolde regardless of if he was in your party, and Leliana finds out about the Sacred Ashes, too.

All they need to do is make it so that it breaks the romance as well.

Wynne always hears about the Ashes and leaves (even if she joins after it's done), and I think Zevran hears about it if you slaughter the Dalish. I know he confronts you about it, but I don't know if that happens no matter what.

Also, in DA2, if you take Anders into the Fade and hand Feynriel over to Torpor, he'll break up with you. Alas, if you haven't triggered a romance with him I think you can still get together afterward, though.

I'd love it if your companions called you out on things you did, even if they weren't there. Maybe you can smooth things over enough to make them stay, but a romance might be out of the question.

Dear God, not like that hahaha.

But yeah, you're in a relationship with someone, its all good, then BOOM. Caught them with someone else. That was the idea.

Yeah I don't want the NPC cheating...unless the PC cheated first. Then it's fair game

Yeah.

I always thought it odd that it didn't auto end the romance. Hopefully DAI won't make the same mistake.

It's long enough I wouldn't be able to get the Collector's edition, which I'd been quite looking forward to. Just not enough that I'm going in blind regarding choices for what I consider story content (and story content is the appeal of Bioware games).

I completely sympathize with you there. I hope you get the information you need in time. You've just got to get so much value out of it to make it worth $170+. I don't trust any game that much.

Not of what I was saying though :( I just wanted a t** for tat scenario. Not Jacob and his baby momma drama that came out of nowhere.

That would rock, especially if it comes out of nowhere.

It strikes me that so far in all the DA games, whether it was a programming issue or what, that all this gating it primarily a means of restricting player choice, rather than character choice. The player choose the race and gender, but once that's done, well, you can do anything you like even if it doesn't really make sense.

I'd rather there be in-character restrictions (orphanages should be funded, not set afire) than meta restrictions.

On the flip, what if a romantic interest didn't become available until AFTER you were already committed to someone else, and you had to cheat to get them because they're that kind of person?

:o

So far they've been good to me, and I really fuckin want that tarot set. But I don't want to monetize what I consider backsliding. :/ It helps somewhat that I'm incredibly picky, so this sort of buying is enough of a rarity that it's easier to fund.

Well, that kinda happened!  I mean, poor FemShep had no clue then BAM ANOTHER WOMAN PREGNANT WITH HIS CHILD.

I feel like a scene like that could have been interesting with Isabela's romance, where she got scared when Hawke got too close. Varric tips Hawke off that Isabela has been seen with some other people, Hawke can confront her. If Hawke doesn't, no harm, no foul, no romance. If Hawke does, Isabela says that they didn't even have something serious, and Hawke can explain they'd like to. Isabela freaks out and takes off.

Cue Act 3.

Something like that could work well. Actually cheating seems... I dunno. It might work out, and it could be cool, but they'd have to handle it with kid gloves.

Going to prison seems justifiable grounds for unannounced breakup, though.

That's why I specified player vs character choice. They're restricting the types of characters players can come up with, not what those characters have to do. Which is odd.

I don't mind orphanges being burned but most of the goodies in your party if not all should hate your guts for it. :P

Or the reverse if they're the designated evil party members.

I'd've quite liked that. The 'love' conversation seemed a touch sudden for Isabela's romance, but it was an important conversation to have.

Ehn. I still think it's debatable whether or not that degrades the character's autonomy.

Jacob knew why Shepard was going to prison, though. I mean, he could've sent, like, a cake with a note written in the frosting.

Yeah, that's what I meant.

Or Vivienne disapproves orphanage burning, but approves only of you do a subtle 'anonymous leak' so you not only get kudos for donating to orphans, but supposedly being humble about it. A good PR move gets her approval.
