This sounds like a reason to do it. Clear out the riff-raff, or at any rate make them show their colors.
Here's hoping those who don't like Mae as a character aren't bunched in with the transphobics though.

While I'm a big proponent of equality, and big public moves in favour of equality, I just see a hard time justifying it from the corporate POV which makes me skeptical it would happen. While being one of the first - if not the first - video game companies to have openly gay romanceable NPCs is a major step (and a lightning rod move), other media and other aspects of our culture have moved forward toward accepting different sexualities.
Gender identity is a minefield, and even in more progressive circles the attitudes are not always great. Seeing a lot of hate directed at a group of people, it's something that would make me feel a bit sick.
Here's hoping those who don't like Mae as a character aren't bunched in with the transphobics though.
I think it's pretty easy to avoid that. Look at how someone who doesn't like Viv as a character is easily distinguishable from an IRL racist.
I would agree and try to refrain any more words on that.
Where did she appear anyways? I missed that.

Mae? Comics.
Ok, thanks, yes I missed the comics. I got a friend who could probably get a hold of them for me then. ![]()
No problem!
At least one thing is off: romances are limited to advisors and companions. The rumour about a romance outside of the 9+3 came from a misstatement in the Raptr interview which was later corrected.

That was what caught my suspicion.

I was just typing out much the same thing so yeah. Mind you they also don't seem to know that Dorian is confirmed and neither Sera or IB are mentioned at all while we have a picture of Leliana who is not romanceble so... ?
Can't expect solid journalism from IGN.
Not a big deal, we'll get everything corralled here. ![]()
Edit: Ack, wrong thread!

Not so sure about this. We know very little about her character outside of what she looks like and a bit of her background, but there is already criticism of her.How do you tell the difference?

That little bit of character we've been told about is enough for some people to get the impression that she's a bit "female Miniature Australian Shepardy"
so I get it, but yeah, we do need to learn more about her. Like actually getting to know her in the game. ![]()
Maybe, but by calling Mae a in disguise they are no doubt insulting real life transgendered people.
Maybe because he thought Mae was a man in disguise? Also, the fact that Mae doesn't have breasts and apparently still has a willy does lend accuracy to his statement:

Concerning this topic: the last thing anyone wants is for a transgendered person to be shoe-horned into the game for "equality." Also before attacking other people, don't forget Bioware's portrayal of transgendered people and cross-dressers in both Origins and DA2 where they appear as prostitutes and comical easter eggs (as well as "traps" against the player). Not that it bothered me as a straight male but just saying.

Cassandra - Straight
Sera - Lesbian
Dorian - Gay
Blackwall - ???
Cole - N/A
Varric - ???
Solas - ???
Vivienne - ???
Iron Bull - Bisexual
(Advisors)
Josephine - Bisexual
Liliana - N/A
Cullen - Straight
So is that what we know at this point? No word of the race-restricted romance options?
All is lost if my male Qunari can't romance Vivienne. Well... the playthrough won't be quite as fun as it could've been anyways.
Well we know we can't romance Cole, so wouldn't that make everyone else romancible?
We know definite NO's for both Leliana and Cole. And you're missing Iron Bull.

Well, as far as info collected, here's the definite vs the possible
(Party Members)
Cassandra - Straight 1
Sera - Lesbian 2 (possibly race gated, willing to work with humans, though by how much is unknown)
Dorian - Gay 3
Blackwall - Probably not, but then again, Thane Krios, so enjoy that possibility. Then again, he seems more married to his duty/work as someone on one of mrshizno's videos pointed out, so who knows.
Cole - No, confirmed by Gaider and Weekes, plus it would be like romancing a guy who probably just woke up from a coma he went into when he was a small boy.
Varric - I'd be surprised, but more than likely he still holds a torch for Bianca, and even if they reunite, what then? He goes to her, he has to put her down, he engages a romance after accepting long ago that she's been dead to him for some time, he realizes that Bianca will never be with him and takes time to mourn that, what then? (non-humans only more than likely)
Solas - I really hope he is LI, I really love what I hear about him, plus dat voice actor
Vivienne - Another one of those "melting the ice queen's heart" stories I want to get into, though if not, then I get it.
Iron Bull - Probably a bi romance, if not a romance, then a fling, but I do hope a romance, this glorious giant has an interesting back-story to explore, romance or not. Possibly race gated for fear of sex death
(Advisors)
Josephine - Bisexual (confirmed for all races) 4
Leliana - only in Origins, sorry.
Cullen - Straight 5 (possibly race gated, might still have a weird thing about non-Andrastrians)
Out of those remaining, I suspect the last three are Bull, Solas, and Vivienne, but who knows, if not Vivienne or Bull, then Blackwall or Varric.
Wasn't Solas the confirmed gay romantic partner?

We don't even know if he's a romance yet.
Ahh, alright. Nevermind, my mind hasn't been on Inquisitionmances so I forgot.
