Why don't people understand that their opinions are not facts? I think Dorian, Iron Bull, Cullen, and Varric are all very attractive. But that's just my opinion and not a fact.

Bioware advertises romance like it's one of the main features of their games.

This game is pulling a Bound By Flame on us, by making hot female characters and ugly male characters.

I completely agree with you, actually.  Good picks, though Varric would have gone first on my list.  I expected our sweet Dorian to be your first.  

 

I am personally a little surprised this thread is still going.  Wasn't it established within the first few pages that attraction is subjective and everyone is entitled to their own opinion?

Oh oh, I know this one.  The Mass Effect sexism is the favoritism shown towards straight men in that series.  What the OP is saying is because they personally don't find any of the male characters attractive, BioWare must be favoring men again because the women are so much hotter, in their opinion.

 

Which I completely and utterly disagree with (seriously, I think the guys are really hot this time around,) but that's the gist of it.

... I'll try to put it as gentle as possible, if your concern is with how a gay person looking like an idiot might affect broader stereotypes people form about that particular minority... then it's probably high time to stop posting, on this particular subject at least. If just to limit the damage already done.

I'm so sorry that he's an insult to you.  You've made that quite clear in the last few days.  I mean this with no sarcasm or snark: It's not fun having the only confirmed LI that's available for m/m not to your taste.  There's no doubt about that.  

 

Yet, you've continuously belabored the point, and at times have gotten aggressive not only towards BioWare with your posts, but towards other posters that have disagreed with you.   There are many folks, including myself, that think he's attractive.  Most other posters have been at least polite in their opinions if Dorian isn't to their taste.  Perhaps you should pay attention to them, because the almost harassing nature of your posts isn't going to help your cause.

 

I would highly recommend sending a polite (I cannot stress that word enough) letter to DG expressing your concerns.  Language such as "ugly," "looking like an idiot," and the like will lead to your opinion getting dismissed.  

 

One of the things I would suggest is to make a rough draft of your letter on notepad.  Just get all your thoughts down, don't worry about punctuation or spelling.  Then, close the BSN tabs and let that sit for a half hour or so.  Go for a walk.  Then, when you get back, re-read your words and ask yourself if the tone is unnecessarily hostile.  Rinse/repeat until you've calmed down enough to write a polite and respectful message about why you disagree with the art direction of Dorian.  

 

I'm not trying to come down on you, nor dismiss your opinion entirely.  You're upset and I can respect that.  I wasn't too thrilled about the male choices in Origins (two blondes, both pretty boys?  Ick) until I actually played the game and got to know them.  Both characters have their strengths and weaknesses, but I don't see two blonde pretty boys anymore.  I see Zevran and Alistair.  I would just try to wait and see who Dorian is as a person.  Besides, not all of the LIs have been announced, so there might be someone else to your taste.

Like many people said it's all about opinions not facts. For instance i don't find any of the female companions attractive as they are and hope it will be possibly to mod their appearance on PC. My opinion may be changed when the game is out though.

I have to agree with you mostly (from all the companions) BUT I think there is still hope in form of Scribbles I

think she looks beautiful and I'm excited when they reveal her

Cullen is an interesting one.  I'd almost want to list him twice because in some pictures, he's gorgeous.  And in others, he's looking.....a little......rough.  In general, I think he's pretty damn good looking, but I'm definitely holding onto my option to change my plan once we see him in action in the game.

I have said that in a Cullen thread and I didn't get lynched for it.  Despite their numbers, they really are a less crazy bunch than they appear.

Since we're being kind of shallow, I'll list who I think are the most attractive guys in order and explain.

 

- Dorian; For me, he's easily the best looking guy in a DA game. Classy, well groomed gentleman with style. I dig it. I wish we could get more guys that look like they bathe sometimes.

- Cullen; He used to be more attractive, imo. Looks like he's taken a lot of damage to the face since we last saw him. Still, he's pretty traditionally handsome. I could see him as the protagonist for any game ever. That makes him a bit bland, but definitely conventionally attractive.

- Solas; He has an interesting, angular face and a lithe form that I like more than a lot of the more bulky guys. (Despite some claims earlier that all gay guys like jacked dudes.)

- Cole; Sure, he kinda looks like a fresh corpse, but the corpse of an attractive person!

- Blackwall; He's not really ugly, but he's not really attractive to me, either. I'm not into older guys, generally, but grizzled older men with giant beards are definitely not my thing. I can see why others would like him, though.

- Varric; I just can't get into the dwarf body type at all. Short and very broad doesn't do it for me. I don't like his super masculine facial shape with the huge, square jaw/chin either. Just not my type in a lot of ways.

- Iron Bull; To be honest, he's the only one that I can't wrap my head around people being interested in. To me, he looks like a literal monster. I mean, no offense to everyone that likes him, I'm not trying to insult you or say it's wrong. I just look at him and I can't get it. He's the only one that I get actually grossed out by thinking of in an intimate setting. Iron Bull inspires more a feeling in me to run away screaming than sexy feels.

We're generally more into cookies than lynchings helps to keep the population up!

 

I can honestly say I'm happy with all possible options. I do have broad tastes in general, but it's even more so that the personalities of our companions and advisers are all really intriguing I don't think anyone is really going to be shortchanged overall, even if their available options seem less to their taste than some others.
