It's a bit early to judge from the few screenshots we've seen, but I'd disagree with the OP statement. The females so far (with the possible exception of Vivienne) look pretty average, and that's without even touching on Cassandra's "darker and grittier" new look. I think I just haven't acclimated to the artstyle yet, though it isn't nearly a shock like it was from DA2.
Female companions = sexy, male companions = average...

Traynor was not that sexy, neither was Bakara, Tali wasn't exactly sexy, we didn't know what she looked like under that helmet and her body model was very much like every other females in the game. Ashley finally let her hair down in ME3 her wore a swimsuit into battle so of course her sex appeal went up. However everyone in DA:I has unique looks, some more appealing to others, I can't say who i find more attractive than the next because frankly i want to know how they act more so than how they look. As for the guys being Average, Varric if anything like his DA:2 self is going to be anything but average, "dat chest hair."

Dorian, Sola's and Iron Bull are fairly attractive. Cullen is decent looking. If anything Varric and Black wall are about average.
The only 'pretty' lady IMO is Vivienne. Josephine is decent looking. Cass is about average and Sera is far from even cute. I blame that on self styling trends in Thedas.

Anybody else noticed that Mass Effect's sexism is making a great return here?
Bioware advertises romance like it's one of the main features of their games.
Yet, let us compare the gorgeous ladies:
Sorry, but I don't find that sexy at all. I hate Vivienne's Maleficent headwear, and Cassandra looks better in DA2... she looks too rugged and angry now(from the shots we've seen at least).

Historically it was the knees (it's about mid way in the article there) As for the pores, yeah, but the rampant photoshoping in all sorts of media is probably to blame -- they work pretty hard on making people believe that no, the pores and such are purely optional ;/I thought it was "elbows too pointy"? Also, how are pores a bad thing? I mean, it's literally impossible to be a human being and not have those.

For me having these two screenshots posted next to eachother has really made me realize how much better DAI looks compared to DA2. Don't get me wrong, I love DA2, I've played it at least 10 times, but wow does Cassandra ever look cartoonish next to Viv in these shots. Viv looks amaaazing!

Yet a load of people are complaining that Cassandra isn't pretty enough, while there are a metric ton of people who want to romance Varric. Just proves that different people like different things.
Exactly.
I am not interested in any female companions . Romantically or physically.
And I am straight.
My main inquisitor will be forever alone

Maybe you should try playing the game and getting to know the LIs first before you judge. It's a wild idea I know, but it's certainly a better outlook than making up your mind about some characters you really don't even know yet.
Even if they aren't your physical type, aren't you playing BioWare games for the personality of your companions and LIs as much if not more so than looks?
Besides, you got Cassandra and Josie already to choose from. The current forum buzz is that Vivienne will most likely end up bisexual as well. That's two to three lovely ladies that you can actually try playing the game to get to know.
Life's too short. Try to be positive on occasion. ![]()

**edited** Solas is unconventionally attractive to me, but I can see others not digging his looks. Blackwall looks too old and bearded for my taste. Yuck. Varric is handsome as usual, but I have zero crushes on him. He's such a bro to me, you know? Thanks DA2. lol Cole is attractive - he kind of reminds me of Beck. But he's not an option due to whatever weirdness that surrounds his lack of adult brain patterns. Or human brain patterns for that matter. Iron Bull might be the ugliest thing I've ever seen. I am repulsed when I see his face (the nose is weirdly/badly shaped, too many scars, missing an eye, his horns are ridiculous, he has a really wide cupid's bow - plus duck lips when he talks, and his head is disproportionately small to his massively roided out physique). I keep imagining Iron Bull asking for a Baby Ruth. lol his face kind of reminds me of Sloth. Or something from The Hills Have Eyes. (The Hills Have One Eye?) I'm sure his personality is cool as hell, but I'm shallow in my video games. That dude is already friend-zoned. He's not a real person, so - no regrets from me. He's fake. I can friend-zone fake characters all I want. If male players can be turned off by Cass or Vivi or whoever, then I can be turned off by Mr. Longhorn Steakhouse.

He said his main Inquisitor will forever be alone. That led me to believe he meant that he'd create other playthroughs to romance them.

Dorian being an option for gay men only sure hasn't hindered my desire to romance him. As a result, I'm going to roll up a human male for the m/m romance for my second completion of the game.
Ah, you're bashing on Iron Bull. Again. A Qunari mercenary. That isn't human in the first place. For actually looking like a battle vet. Clearly, the Qunari looking different is very new to the series, right?
Now you're not only ripping on Iron Bull again like a heat warped broken record, but imply actors like man that played Sloth are too ugly to be loved or romanced. As well as folks with mental disabilities as well.
Classy. ![]()

Oh I'm totally romancing Dorian with a guy.
As for the rest of what you said:
zzzzzzzz...
edit: the man who played Sloth looked a lot different out of makeup... And by all means, try to convince me that looks mean nothing to you when you want to sleep with someone.

You could have made your point without ranting about how ugly you find him. I like his design, I find it interesting. But if you don't like it, that's ok. To each his own!

You guys are way too picky. I love the obvious care that's gone into the designs of these characters, and I think that having a unique look is much more attractive than conforming to some sort of conventional standard of beauty. Iron Bull, for example, is big and imposing and powerful. You can tell what sort of character he is just by looking at him. Vivienne takes great pains with her appearance because that's who she is. Contrast that with Sera who is content to hack off her hair with a rusty knife when it gets into her eyes. Making the designs fit the characters is much more important than making them appeal to you. In fact, that's been the traditional problem with female characters in video games; they're designed to be looked at first and foremost. However I think Bioware's done an excellent job making the whole cast look like interesting individuals.
It's not hard to make a bunch of generically handsome/beautiful characters. It's much more difficult to make a cast that looks as unique and intriguing as the one DAI has.
