I continue to be baffled by the "Cassandra looks worse than in DA2" argument. I like her look way more in DA:I.
Female companions = sexy, male companions = average...

In the context of the world Dragon Age is set in, with female warriors traveling and fighting regularly, do you really see any good and practical reason for them to have long hair? "Because it makes them look sexier" is not a valid reason. It might just be a limitation of the game engine, sure, but even if not and it's completely intentional it makes sense for their place in life to not have a mess of hair to screw with every day.
I swear. If a woman has short hair and doesn't fuss with it much, they're manly butch tomboys. If they have long hair and fuss with it to keep it sexy, they're too vain and spend too much time thinking about their looks. Pfft.
All of the companions look at least average to me. And that's awesome. I like not having a parade of eye candy as my companions, and since they are reasonably attractive in their own ways it's not like we're being slighted by them looking normal.

I always find it funny that Posts that say how "unattractive" the female Companions are always exclude Vivenne, even when they are speculating the hell out of everything. I mean, come on, if you look for feminine, "Hollywood conventionally" attractive Women in your Party, she's the One.

I wouldn't say Vivienne conforms to conventional western standards of beauty. For one, she's not white, nor does she look like beyonce. I wonder if she has straightened hair under those horns though.

I'm pretty sure she's bald, unfortunately.
Anyway, since I'm here, I disagree with the overall thread... the women aren't nearly as blatantly "hot" as they are in some other games, although I will agree that the men don't really look that great. Then again, I'm not sure I'm the right one to ask about that... They all just have some really odd quirk, like Iron Bull's missing eye and Dorian's mustache (I just find it unsettling for some reason). Don't get me started on Cole, but he apparently just built his body from scratch, so I guess he has an excuse.
Overall I think the idea was to make everyone look like normal people, and if so then they succeeded...
Edit: Eh... figured I'd just edit this to say I don't have a problem with Dorian's mustache anymore... after watching the demo repeatedly, I think it suits him.

I think Josephine is pretty. That being said, I think everyone is entitled to their opinions. If we can go on and on about how attractive a character is, then others should be able to describe how ugly they think a character is (without so much butthurt from those who disagree). Seems fair to me.
Well maybe ugly was a little too harsh especially when put up next to Vivienne who is really ugly IMO like a frog prince who didn’t change all the way back into a man. I’ll just say Josephine's not very attractive looking, but I still stand by my Star Wars throwaway model remark.

Even Hollywood itself manages to acknowledge Women with black Features as conventionally beautiful and can't you get any more "conventional western".
But apparently black features do not count as conventionally Beatiful in Video game World. Understood.

It's not my opinion. It's a pretty well known trend among left wingers and feminists. I'm not going to write an essay here do some research.
And Icy just said she's bald. Don't get me wrong I applaud you for not going with the flow.

The thread topic reminds me how subjective beauty is. As a straight male i find the male characters more attractive than the female ones. In my opininion none of the female characters is really pretty (maybe Josephine, but not on the screenshot shown). They all look pretty average. To the people saying, that they are happy not all female look like supermodels. That's right, but there are also many "normal" pretty women on the street. If i go outside for 30min i will see plenty of women who are more attractive than any of the female companions. But like i said at the beginning. It is just my view of beauty and everybody has it's own.

A real attractive woman will always be more attractive and beautiful than a fictional attractive woman; don't even bother comparing, I wouldn't. Why? Because real people are natural, whereas fictional women are an imitation of something natural, and imitation is always worse (i.e. real lobster vs imitation lobster).

Between thriving industries which do nothing but photoshop the hell out of "natural" people, and the amount of natural people who choose to show fake personas instead of their actual personalities, in order to be more attractive... that's hardly always true.A real attractive woman will always be more attractive and beautiful than a fictional attractive woman; don't even bother comparing, I wouldn't. You know what, that might just be the issue here - if you can call it an issue, anyway. People are used to highly photoshopped, painted, and otherwise altered images of people in everyday life. Even just putting makeup on can help a blotchy complexion or otherwise pretty up how someone looks, so when you see them on the street they are going to look better than when they rolled out of bed in the morning. This is why I like that the companions seem "natural." They have more pressing matters to attend to than doing their hair or exfoliating and painting their faces. If the issue people have is that their physical characteristics aren't so pretty, well... that's a subjective matter and ultimately your character can find them attractive in some way even if you don't as the player. How many people are really only interested in Iron Bull due to the muscles and novelty and can overlook the trainwreck that is the poor bastard's face?

For example, I personally think that Eva Mendes is distractingly homely. Lots of people seem to think she's attractive, and I don't begrudge them that, but I'll never understand it. But that doesn't mean that I get to complain when she gets cast in movies.

I think you meant to say "this chick looks like the most real woman, as opposed to the other women in the game who look like plastic dolls." People aren't suppose to look perfect, they have imperfections.
Seriously (in my opinion)...
--Vivienne is constantly sweating for some reason, with some of the most fake/stereotypical lips I have ever laid my eyes upon.
--Morrigan and Cassandra look borderline manish/like men trying to cosplay female characters.
--Leliana looks like a porcelain doll etc. etc.
The only other woman in the game that looks like a real woman (again, in my opinion) is Sera, and she's not even human.
And now I am missing a "down vote button" -.-
I - still - think that Morrigan and Cassy got a make-over with the uglyfication stick (it's exactly the opposite of what happened to Ashley in ME3 - she was fine looking (she was pretty damned hot - in the way a dangerous and well trained women should be IMHO - and then they made her into Paris Hilton in space...*pukes* good that she was dead for my runs) and I would like them to fix that (I hate character remakes, I really do...I can understand that the new engine needed that (they could not use the models from DA2 probably), but they could have stayed true to the characters (my main problem is that they don't look older - in Morrigan's case (Cassy should look like in DA2, because the few months between it ending and DA:I would not really change her that much!) - but not really like themselves, more like badly made copies or transfer pictures...![]()
greetings LAX
ps: Cassy now looks almost older than Aveline (which she isn't) - It's like she's in her mid fourties at least (and she should be what? - around 30 years old as far as I know)

Cassandra is at the absolutely earliest in her mid-30's. The reality is that she is almost certainly in her late 30's to early 40's.
ETA: She's also definitely older than Aveline, who is just a few years older than Hawke, if I'm remembering correctly.

I really don't understand the point of these threads. A lot of people find everyone attractive. This topic is so subjective as to be meaningless.
And personally, I think Vivienne is one of the hottest DA characters ever. She reminds me of (the goddess) Laverne Cox.

That's pretty much the situation I'm in right now
Dorian, Varric, and Solas are huge NOPEs for me and Cullen is straight (I play male characters primarily). So at this point I'm like... okay, Iron Bull is okay, sigh. And I find myself hoping for Blackwall even though he's not really a looker either, but at least it's something, you know?
They really spoiled us with DAO and DA2!

There are people who said that the female are gorgeous while the males are ugly. There are those who said females are ugly and males are gorgeous (even in this thread). Which side is right?
The answer is simple: there's no way Bioware can please everyone, since people have different opinion on this topic.

Anybody else noticed that Mass Effect's sexism is making a great return here?
Bioware advertises romance like it's one of the main features of their games.
Yet, let us compare the gorgeous ladies:
To the male companions:
.....Do I need to add anything else?
This game is pulling a Bound By Flame on us, by making hot female characters and ugly male characters.
You are calling some of those super ugly females like Sera "hot?" I Say the males look pretty damn good in this game.

lol... agree on both accounts
As for Dorian, I really am hoping the facial hair will look more realistic once the game ships. Because yeah it does look pretty bad. It's one thing to hate it, another thing for it to just look as bad as it does. But if you look at some of the more "done" characters like Varric, his hair, features, skin, everything, look magnificent. I think Dorian and a few others just aren't there yet, and I have confidence that they will be.

Bioware has made a many good looking men...most of whom are romanceable...Sooooooo many attractive men as long as we're being shallow:
- Carth Onasi
- Kaidan Alenko
- James Vega
- Jacob Taylor (say what you will about him being boring and his romance...those abs)
- Steve Cortez (for a generated model anyway...)
- ALISTAIR
- Zevran
- Anders
- Dorian
- Iron Bull
- Cullen
Trust me. Bioware is no slouch in the handsame men department.
