Also I can't understand why since we have a word that expresses our level of euphoria when we interact at another being, "attractiveness", why do we have to make beauty the same thing. Sounds to me like rebellious attitude of the pointless kind.

People have standards, when something matches that standard perfectly we use that word. Different people have different standards. In middle ages extremely pale and overweight people were considered attractive, in some places having a very long neck is considered attractive, some people find animals sexually attractive, etc, etc. There is no universal standard, you are what you have been raised.

I do think the mainstream standards of status quo beauty are embedded within the women of Inquisition, moreso than with the men.  Sera and Cass are far and beyond "plain" or "average" or "ugly."  They both have very feminine features, large eyes, plump lips, and all the women have very similar slender and curvy bodies and builds -- even the warrior.  Our views of standards for women are much higher than men, in general.  Men can range from Cullen and Dorian right down to faces and bodyshapes of Iron Bull and Blackwall in variety.  But the moment a woman has short hair (or no hair like Jack), bodyshapes beyond curvy/thin, a scar or blemish or poor complexion, or is in a role and/or personality that isn't considered passive, then she's whoamygod ugly/a man/without value.

I do think if they wanted to be explore unconventional forms and standards of beauty, they could have gone much more for some of the women.  We need more of these kind of appearances of women in our media, imo.

I just wish they got rid of Dorian's horrid mustache and gave Solas some hair. Their faces themselves are very attractive, but the baldness doesn't suit Solas' head shape and let's face it...handlebar mustaches should be set on fire. Hell, all mustaches should be set on fire. And knowing my luck Varric isn't romanceable and Cullen being an NPC romance is a turn off.

Not a deal breaker, but if modding is possible in the future I would totally remove Dorian's offending facial hair in a heartbeat XD

Also people think Cassandra is ugly? She's gorgeous, way prettier than Morrigan ever was. O_O Vivienne looks amazing as well.

As many have pointed out, all of it is veeery subjective, you can't cry bias just because your own preferences are offended. I think Varric is very attractive, as well as Blackwall and Dorian.

I think Cassandra is okay, on the other hand, and I don't really find Vivian that beautiful. Sera I do like though.

I've always liked at least one or two of the men romances appearance wise in every Bioware game. But I'm one of those xenophiles that loves Garrus so I guess I'm just too suspect to count. People on BSN are way too uppity and entitled though. Yeesh.

Well as a "lady" myself that would make me happiest... I'd love to roll a hottie male Inquisitor for Dorian. :D

Backtracking on my earlier commentary that Cassandra looked odd / uncanny / whatever. Having rewatched a trailer that featured her, I think the random stills of her face are just done at angles that don't really do her justice - in motion, without a static viewpoint, she looks perfectly fine.

Yeah I guess they all look different in motion. I wouldn't be surprised if all our opinions shifted at least a little bit once we're actually playing the game!

Lol, I really hate mustaches too.  They set off my creep-o-meter.  I may have a hard time seeing past that on Dorian.  Other than that, I'm OK with the other companions' appearances.  It's just that mustache  .  I try not to be superficial, honest...

I don't like them in real life either, but in fantasy... meh... I think it could work!! :D It helps that from now on Dorian is Autolycus for me!! Thank you, OP! (Or NO THANK YOU because now I am obsessed.)

Well, the soul patch makes it better  :P

Point taken, though.  Maybe I'll change my mind once more of Dorian is revealed.  From what we've seen, he's an otherwise attractive man.

edit: Dorian has a soul patch, nevermind... I just thought he only had a mustache  :pinched:.  I haven't followed his character closely.

Well, I hope not!!

He's the only one of the companions I might like to romance, as long as he has the flashy personality to match his flashy looks.

Anyway, I see most people here don't have a problem with how ugly the male companions are. I think I'll try to open the same thread in a non-Bioware forum, and see if I get the same responses. If I do, then I give up. :P

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, friend. ;) You've seen how many people think Cass is ugly, but she's so attractive to me I'd switch teams for her.

Might want to show the whole team then to be fair after all  :P

Agreed beauty in the eye of the beholder the only female character I've found attractive so far is Viv and thats due mainly to her eyes and as far as male characters I think I've been very vocal in my attraction to Blackwall and Iron Bull already xD

Bottom line: Different strokes different folks  :P

And yet again you use the word attractive, not beautiful. Perhaps because it wouldn't help you make your point? I know what attractive means. Hell I'm attracted to some really bizarre things as my friends like to point out frequently. But does this mean I find all these things beautiful? Hardly. On the contrary I'm attracted to them because beauty isn't their defining characteristic. And why it should have to be.

Just because someone is beautiful doesn't mean he is more attractive. It's a known fact that infants don't care much about beautiful faces and personally sometimes I find it kind of a turn off because it affects people negatively. They feel entitled so they diminish their other qualities because they don't care much for them or they convince themselves that they don't so life can be simpler.

I do stand firm in my opinion that beauty is quantifiable. This doesn't mean that everyone has to compete or if it should be important to us as individuals even though as a people we have proved that beauty defines us way more than what should be healthy. In the most extreme case it should be a matter of practicality but it became a religion.

Does everything have to revolve around romance, especially looks, alone? Maybe you might fall in love with their personality (unless you are really incapable of overcoming barriers)

I personally don't care much for romances yet I romanced Tali in ME2 even though you never see her face (and she might be ugly as all hell). But I did it anyway because she was likable enough and it made SOME narrative sense to me.

He's a legend. Never saw Hercules Legendary Journeys or Evil Dead movies?

He reminds me of Sean Connery. He always plays the part of "Bruce" but he still manages to sell it.

As the person who first pointed out the "Dorian is Autolycus" analogy, let me tell you.... you NEED to repair your lack of Bruce Campbell knowledge!! Man's a legend!!

Here is a classic, awesome Bruce Campbell scene from the Evil Dead 2:

And here, I just uploaded a video to show you Bruce Campbell as Autolycus:
